  • Patent number: 4564093
Abstract: The invention relates to a damming arrangement for controlling the return flow of clutch fluid in a fluid friction clutch of the type having a rotatable driving disk disposed to rotate in a work space of a relatively rotatable housing. The work space is separated by an intermediate disk fixed to the housing and a pair of clutch fluid return bores are provided at the periphery of the intermediate disk diametrically opposite one another. To optimize the guidance of the return flow of clutch fluid from the working space to the storage space, damming bodies are disposed adjacent the return bores, which damming bodies include a first guide surface portion extending radially inwardly of the return bores in a diagonal direction corresponding to the rotational direction of the driving disk and a second guide surface portion radially outwardly of the return bore extending diagonally outwardly and opposite of the rotational direction of the driving disk.

  • Patent number: 4564094
Abstract: The invention provides a baffle arrangement for increasing the return flow pressure for clutch fluid in a fluid friction clutch of the type having a rotatable driving disk disposed to rotate in a work space of a relatively rotatable housing. The work space is separated by an intermediate disk fixed to the housing and clutch fluid return bore means are provided at the periphery of the intermediate disk. In order to prevent wearing of the baffle member and also to accommodate fixation of the baffle member in a minimum thickness clutch construction, the baffle member is supported at the intermediate disk in an oblong hole adjacent to the circumference thereof. The baffle member is guided for movement between respective circumferential end positions in the oblong hole, is axially fixed by a retaining washer or the like to the intermediate disk, and is guided so as to be radially immovable.

  • Patent number: 4543802
Abstract: An evaporator apparatus comprises an evaporator assembly to which a coolant is supplied by an expansion valve and a flow divider. The connecting means between the expansion valve and the flow divider is provided with at least one bend. The bend causes a non-homogeneous coolant flow at the flow divider, resulting in an uneven distribution of gaseous and liquid coolant to the individual evaporator pipe sets. A mixing element, provided directly upstream of the flow divider, has a flow cross-section which expands in the direction of the coolant flow, resulting in a brisk mixing of the gaseous and liquid coolant phases to provide a homogeneous mixture. Preferred embodiments of this mixing element include a cylindrical mixing cell having a preferred inlet diameter/cell diameter ratio, a tapered insert which first decreases and then increases the flow cross-section, and a simple screen. The two latter embodiments may be installed in pipes which have constant diameters.

  • Patent number: 4540044
Abstract: A radiator arrangement for water cooled combustion engines is disclosed, especially for use with commercial vehicles. The radiator cooling block, including the water boxes, are fastened at the vehicle frame by means of lateral support parts. The lateral support parts are provided with lateral mounting flanges which respectively extend over both ends of the water boxes and exhibit bores which are aligned with corresponding bores at the water boxes, whereby cotter pins or the like extending through the bores act as connecting pins to connect the parts together. This arrangement exhibits the advantage that the water boxes themselves are used as connecting traverse elements for the lateral support parts so that the lateral support parts and the water boxes form a stable frame construction which holds the soldered cooling block therebetween. Expensive soldered connections for the fastening of the lateral support parts is disposed with and the necessary reinforcing strength is formed by this frame construction.

  • Patent number: 4531577
Abstract: A heat exchanger wherein a plurality of individual tubular parts are connected with each other is provided having a common pressure element for tube connections arranged in a plane. According to FIG. 1, a pressure platen 6 is present, which consists of a material harder than that of the external tubular part and is equipped with a number of orifices 7 corresponding to the number of tube connections. The pressure platen 6 surrounds the outer and inner tubular parts inserted in each other, and the diameter of the orifices 7 is smaller, at least in part, than the external diameter of the outer tubular part. According to the process for the manufacture of the heat exchanger, all of the tube connections are produced simultaneously by means of pressing on the pressure platen. Each of the tube connections is effected by reducing the cross section by means of plastic deformation of at least the outer, tubular part, whereby a press fit of the tubular part is obtained.
