  • Patent number: 4455728
Abstract: A method is disclosed for clamping together a first and a second part, the first part having a flange thereon, the second part having a groove which may receive the flange. The method includes the steps of placing a deformable seal on the bottom of the groove of the second part, placing the flange of the first part on the deformable seal as the flange is guided into the groove, clamping the first and second parts together while deforming the seal until the seal approximately fills a space defined between a lower surface of the flange and the walls forming the groove, and deforming certain parts of a vertically upright standing area of the second part by rolling the certain parts of the area over an upper surface of the flange into generally horizontal positions while leaving other parts of the area generally in their vertically upright condition to thereby form an approximately corrugated edge on the second part, which holds the first and second parts together in a clamped condition.

  • Patent number: 4451202
Abstract: A fan wheel or pre-guide wheel for axial or semi-axial air flow, especially for use with the cooling systems of motor vehicles. In order to provide for advantageous stream line flow, the leading surfaces of the fan wheel hub or an upstream pre-guide wheel hub are suitably rounded providing for a generally increasing hub diameter in the direction of the air flow. In order to simplify the casting or extrusion of the fan wheel so configured, the invention provides for a substantially cylindrical or conically decreasing hub diameter in the region of the fan hub lying generally behind each fan blade. For fan hubs of relatively low axial depth, for example with riveted fan blades, the gaps may remain uncovered without detrimental effects on the air stream.

  • Patent number: 4436245
Abstract: A control system for controlling the operation of a heating or air conditioning system, especially for the passenger compartment of motor vehicles. The temperature in the compartment is maintained by an electronic controller which receives temperature-related signals from one or more temperature sensors. The electronic controller is connected to an air pump which may be operated as a source of pressure or vacuum and is coupled to a pneumatic actuator which moves a final control element, for example an air flow valve or a cooling water valve. The air pump supplies a continuous and reliable source of pressure or vacuum independently of the engine manifold vacuum. The air control conduit is coupled to a ventilating line which communicates with the atmosphere through a fixed or variable throttle.

  • Patent number: 4378174
Abstract: A clamping connection for clamping two parts together. One part includes a flange and the other includes a deformable edge. When the parts are in their clamped condition, the edge has been deformed into a continuously corrugated configuration including alternate deformed and undeformed partial areas. The deformed partial areas positively and lockingly engage the flange when the flange and edge are in the locked condition. Thus, a positive joint is formed. The undeformed partial areas of the edge contribute to stiffening the clamping connection.
