  • Patent number: 4265744
Abstract: A discharge-controlled method for a compressed air-controlled wet settling machine for the preparation of mineral mixtures, particularly for the washing of raw coal, is carried out such that the preparation takes place by means of pulsation of a separating liquid in a work chamber, whereby the pulsation is controlled by means of inlet and outlet valves and results in a stratification of the minerals on the settling machine carrier such that the heavier materials are stratified below the lighter materials. The layer level of the heavier material is measured by a scanner, in particular a float, and an actual-reference regulation controls a discharge apparatus for the heavier minerals. Measurement of the actual value of the heavier material layer level takes place by way of the scanner during a period of time which lies asymmetrically between the opening time of the outlet valve and the opening time of the inlet valve, and in particular shortly before the opening time of the inlet valve.

  • Patent number: 4212850
Abstract: This invention relates to a countercurrent combustion method and apparatus for the production of calcined lime in a furnace which contains, in sequence, at least one preheating zone, combustion zone, and a cooling zone. The entire combustion air is passed through the cooling zone thereby to preheat the same. A portion of the thus preheated air is withdrawn from the furnace and heated in a recuperation zone which may be within or outside the vertical shaft furnace but is located between the preheating zone and the combustion zone. In the recuperation zone, the air is heated to approximately the deacidification temperature and then is supplied to the combustion zone.

  • Patent number: 4184886
Abstract: Hot dust laden gases from heated kilns in cement plants are mixed with a cooler moistening medium to provide a mixture having a dew point lying within a temperature range in which dust separation in electrofilters is greatly enhanced. Volatile alkali compounds in the gases condense on the dust particles and are substantially completely filtered out of the gases before discharge of the gases to the atmosphere. The electrical resistance of the dust in the gas is reduced by the moisture from high levels of about 10.sup.15 [ohm.times.cm] to levels below about 10.sup.11 [ohm.times.cm] so that efficient dust precipitation in electrofilters can be effected at low temperatures of about 150.degree. C. and at the same time removal of alkali from the cement clinker is enhanced.
