  • Patent number: 5932888
Abstract: The position of an edge of a web or sheet is measured using a photoelectric measuring device. Any edge anomalies will generate extreme edge position values. These extreme values are used together with other, more representative values, to determine an initial position of the web edge. These extreme values are then eliminated since they exceed a tolerance threshold. A revised determination of the edge location is made using the remaining position values.

  • Patent number: 5865120
Abstract: A diagnostic system for a rotary printing press utilizes signals from angular position detectors on press components to identify wear patterns. These signals are compared to press-idiosyncratic operating patterns and changes between the two are analyzed to provide information on press component wear.

  • Patent number: 5860342
Abstract: Point needles in a conveying cylinder of a rotary press are caused to follow a curve course which securely fastens a web to the cylinder while eliminating transport damage to the printed products as well as reducing paper waste. The needle tips of the point needles are moved along their path by the superimpositioning of two pivot movements, one of which is accomplished by a point holder arm and the second of which is accomplished by a rocker. The two cooperate to form a level four member swivel joint.

  • Patent number: 5860617
Abstract: A device for unwinding a web of material which is wound in a roll on a winding core is utilized in a roll changer of a printing press. An inner shaft carries a clamping cone and an outer, coaxial shaft carries a torque transmitting element. These two shafts are slidable axially independently of each other and can operate in concert to rapidly stop a rotating wound roll of material having a large mass. Large torques can be transmitted to the wound roll without causing damage to the wound material.
