  • Patent number: 5736054
Abstract: An operating parameter of a centrifuge is determined by converting vibration of the machine frame of the centrifuge on rotation of the drum thereof to electrical signals having a frequency spectrum which is analyzed. Variations of the peak amplitudes and frequency locations on frequency analysis, e.g. by Fast Fourier Transmissions, is used to signal the parameter, e.g. a parameter representing the degrees of filling the centrifuge, termination of filtration, etc.

  • Patent number: 5584470
Abstract: An injection-molding apparatus for making a hollow-wall container having sides and a base has front and rear mold parts together forming side surfaces of a mold cavity centered on an axis and a floor mold part defining a base surface of the mold cavity. An inner core sleeve and an outer core sleeve are axially displaceable relative to each other and to the mold parts and have front ends. The sleeves together form a passage extending to the front ends and the front ends form a compartment. A sleeve actuator can displace the sleeves axially between a front position with the front ends of the sleeves projecting relatively far into the cavity and a rear position with the front ends of the sleeves generally retracted from the cavity. A piston/cylinder unit formed between the sleeves connected to the passage is pressurizable to shift the sleeves relative to each other and thereby open up the compartment into the cavity. A floor actuator can axially shift the floor between front and rear positions.

  • Patent number: 5582726
Abstract: A filter centrifuge has the drum, the drum shaft and its bearings mounted in a movable machine support, carriage or bearing member which rides on a rail of the base machine support or frame so that with a cover for an opening in the rear wall on which the filter housing is mounted, the assembly of drum, shaft and bearing can be withdrawn into the machine space. When the movable wall is in place, a clean room containing the filter housing and the processing chamber, is closed off from the machine space.

  • Patent number: 5577839
Abstract: The problem of insufficient friction along the wall of a rotating funnel feeding viscous material to an extruder or injection molding machine so that the material sweeps past the conveying screw and prevents the conveying screw from continuously feeding that mass to the outlet of the funnel, is solved by providing pins which project inwardly from the rotating funnel wall and engage in interruptions in the flight of the conveying screw. The funnel wall can also be provided with pockets or grooves.

  • Patent number: 5540495
Abstract: The extruder screw drive has a first and a second motor, a screw mechanism connected to the first motor and to the extruder screw for translating it in the extrusion cylinder, and a slide mechanism connected to the second motor and to the extruder screw for rotating it in the extrusion cylinder. The screw mechanism and the slide mechanism are coaxial and partially fit into one another to provide an axially compact arrangement. The motors can be hollow shaft electric motors axially aligned together, and pressure regulated hydraulic axial force can be added to the extruder screw during plasticating as it retracts due to increased volume of plastic at an output end of the extrusion cylinder.

  • Patent number: 5516252
Abstract: An aircraft extending along a longitudinal aircraft axis and having a nose wheel pivotal about an upright wheel axis can be maneuvered by a tractor extending along a longitudinal tractor axis and adapted to engage the nose wheel of the aircraft. The tractor and aircraft axes can extend at an angle to each other that should not exceed a predetermined maximum turnout angle. A turnout protection system has structure on the aircraft that is directed generally perpendicular of the aircraft axis and that is only directed toward the tractor when the aircraft and tractor axes extend generally at the maximum turnout angle relative to each other. At least one electronic sensor on the tractor directed toward the aircraft detects the structure when the aircraft and tractor axes extend generally at the maximum turnout angle relative to each other. A controller on the tractor takes action, e.g.

  • Patent number: 5472602
Abstract: An evertable drum centrifuge has a drum with a generally cylindrical and perforate outer wall and having an axially forwardly open front end. An end wall of the drum can move axially between a closed position fitting in the front outer-wall end and an open position spaced axially forward of the outer wall and is centrally formed with a fill opening. An annular liner of a flexible foraminous filter medium has a front edge attached to the outer-wall end and a back edge attached to a rim of extension structure fixed on the end wall. When the end wall move between the closed and open positions, the liner moves from a normal position inside the drum and extending backward from the front end to the rim to an everted position substantially outside the drum and extending forward in the solids compartment from the front end to the rim. An axially displaceable fill tube carries an axially nondisplaceable fill head complementarily engageable in the fill opening and having an annular seal engageable with the fill tube.

  • Patent number: 5310330
Abstract: A resin article is made between an outer concave mold part and an inner convex mold part that can fit together so that respective surfaces form a substantially closed mold cavity. This is done by first lining the surface of the outer mold part with a liner sheet and then fitting the lined outer mold part to the inner mold part to form the substantially closed mold cavity. A portion of the surface of the inner mold part is positioned to form a pocket open inward into the cavity and this pocket is filled with a mass of fluent synthetic resin. The surface portion is then pressed inward while the parts are fitted together and without otherwise relatively moving the mold parts to force the resin mass from the pocket into the cavity until the inner-part surface portion lies substantially flush with the rest of the inner-part surface.

  • Patent number: 5302108
Abstract: A mold closing apparatus and process for use with an injection molding machine are described. The mold is opened and closed by hydraulic pressure. The disclosed apparatus and method relate to the use of an immobile differential piston within a displaceable, double-action differential piston which moves within an immobile piston cylinder. This arrangement permits the use of smaller diameters to produce the necessary closing force. The immobile differential piston contains the necessary hydraulic passage for routing hydraulic fluid to the appropriate surfaces for exerting opening and closing forces. The use of a plurality of displaceable, single-acting pistons in parallel with the differential piston further reduces the diameters needed for exerting the claim force. Locating these single-acting pistons within the support column cylinders makes for an ever more compact apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5253994
Abstract: A synthetic-resin article is molded by plastifying a virgin granulate into a fluent stream and plastifying a recycle granulate into another fluent stream. The recycle stream is then filtered while still plastified to removing particulate impurities from it. Then the filtered recycle stream while still plastified is combined with the virgin stream to form a combined stream and the combined stream is fed into a mold. The stream is mechanically filtered.

  • Patent number: 5192474
Abstract: An optical disk having a pair of axially oppositely directed faces and an annular outer periphery is made by first forming a mold cavity corresponding to the shape of the disk between a pair of axially spaced parts and a demolding ring sandwiched between the parts. The cavity is then filled with a hardenable resin such that the parts form the respective faces and an inner periphery of the ring forms the outer periphery of the disk and the resin is at least partially hardened in the cavity. The parts are then axially oppositely separated from each other and from the disk to leave the disk in the ring with both of its faces exposed and the ring is then transversely displaced with the disk engaged in it out from between the mold parts. The disk is then cooled and shrunk such that its outer periphery separates from the inner periphery of the ring and the disk separates from the ring.
