  • Patent number: 4510871
Abstract: A bogie for a railroad vehicle comprises a pair of wheel sets mounted in a frame which is pivotally connected to the vehicle so that it can rotate about a substantially upright axis. The wheel sets are connected to the frame resiliently and by links which, upon the application of unbalanced force, axially to one of the wheel sets shifts the force-receiving end toward the other wheel set. The links can also be disposed so that any tendency for one of the wheel sets to move downwardly relative to the frame will result in a tendency for it also to move closer to the other wheel set. This has been found to increase high speed stability of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4510120
Abstract: A mixing head for two reactive components, e.g. the components of a settable synthetic resin mixture, comprises a mixing chamber in which a plunger is shiftable to block and unblock the nozzle orifices and drive the reaction mixture from the chamber through an outlet. At least one of the nozzles is carried on a readily shifting slider which cooperates with a similarly shiftable obturating member to define a small premixing chamber, as desired, and deflect the mixture through at least 90.degree. within the mixing chamber. This system is especially effective for the mixing of reactive components which have hitherto been found to be difficult to mix with conventional mixing heads.

  • Patent number: 4461093
Abstract: A method of operating a particle-treating apparatus having a hollow foraminous drum centered on and rotatable about an upright axis comprises the steps of feeding particles into the upper portion of the interior of the drum, rotating the drum about the axis at a speed sufficient to form the particles into an annular body lying on the inner surface of the drum, passing a drying gas radially inward through the drum into the interior thereof and withdrawing the gas axially from the interior to at least partially fluidize the body and dry the particles, and collecting the particles beneath the drum as the body moves off the lower edge thereof. The rate of gas flow through the drum and the rotation rate of the drum are such that the body moves axially down in the interior toward the lower edge of the drum.

  • Patent number: 4446021
Abstract: A centrifugal filter has a centrifuge drum rotatable about an axis and provided with a plurality of sieve support plates lining the drum. Each of the plates is generally flat and rectangular and has a radially inwardly directed inner face. They are each formed with an array of flow grooves extending on and opening radially inwardly at the inner face and each having an outer end and an inner end spaced along the plate therefrom. The flow grooves are of increasing flow cross section from their outer ends to their inner ends. An outlet serves for draining liquid from the inner ends. A filter medium overlies the inner face over the flow grooves. Thus flow is maintained substantially uniform even at the outer groove ends, where relatively little filtrate moves. As a result clogging of these flow grooves is impossible; they will stay clear along their entire lengths.

  • Patent number: 4422696
Abstract: A track structure for a tracked vehicle especially a tank, comprises a track whose tread links are joined in the continuous chain by intermediate links such that the tread links have a spacing x from one another. The tread chain passes around running-wheel assemblies supporting the chassis of the vehicle, each assembly having a pair of rollers journaled adjacent one another at horizontally spaced axes such that the spacing X of the two rollers of each assembly from one another is equal to 1x to 1.5x, inclusive. This reduces shock transmission to the vehicle as the flat links pass around the roller assemblies.

  • Patent number: 4405454
Abstract: A process for the dewatering and particle classification of solids from suspensions, e.g. coal from a slurry in which the coal is transported, makes use of a dewatering centrifuge having two frustoconical centrifuge drum sections of different inclinations such that in a first filtering zone the particles are preliminarily dewatered and then pass by automigration to the next centrifuge drum at which further dewatering takes place. The suspension on the first sieve surface forms a thin layer classification zone having a thickness up to 5 mm and in which the coarse fraction is retained while the fine fraction is passed. The coarse fraction automigrates to the next sieve surface where it is dewatered and the fine fraction separated out in the thin layer classifying zone is then filtered under pressure in a subsequent stage.

  • Patent number: 4365645
Abstract: A three-way or three-ported flow-regulating valve for use in a hydraulic system comprises a two-position two-ported throttle valve inserted between an inflow conduit and an outflow conduit and a pressure-relief valve connected to the inflow conduit at an upstream point thereof and at a downstream point proximate to an intake port of the throttle valve. A servovalve is connected in parallel to the throttle valve via small-diameter pressure-transmission channels extending to the intake port and to an output port of the throttle valve. Upon a jump in the pressurization of the inflow conduit, for example due to the activation of an auxiliary pump, the pressure-relief valve opens; it closes again only upon an equalization of the pressure throughout the inflow conduit. The servovalve has a biasing spring which exerts a force determining the maximum pressure drop across the throttle valve.
