Abstract: A furniture construction includes a frame structure made up of a pair of spaced frame sections connected together, and a furniture component mounted to the frame structure. Each frame section includes a lower base section, an upright, and a furniture component support member extending from the upright and to which the furniture component is mounted. The frame sections are preferably C-shaped when viewed from the side. In one form, the furniture component is a seat mounted to the furniture component support, and the frame structure includes a back support area extending upwardly from the seat. A back is mounted to the back support area. In another form, the furniture component is a desk or table top mounted to the furniture component support. • Patent number: 6739663
Abstract: A back mounting arrangement for a chair in which a back member is pivotable relative to a seat member. The back mounting arrangement includes a flexible bar-type pivot member interposed between the seat member and the back member. The pivot member includes an upper section received within a passage associated with the back member, and a lower section received within a passage associated with the seat member. The pivot member is formed of a resilient material and is flexible so as to enable the back member to be pivoted rearwardly relative to the seat member, and to provide a forward bias to the back member for resisting rearward pressure applied to the back member. A limit member, in the form of a limit strap, is engaged with the pivot member for limiting rearward pivoting movement of the back member relative to the seat member. The limit strap includes an opening which receives a protrusion associated with the pivot member.

  • Patent number: 6739651
Abstract: An article of seating furniture including an extendable support assembly that is movable to convert the assembly from an upright position to a supine position. The extendable support assembly includes a pedestal having a pair of guide tracks with upwardly extending notches disposed on opposite sides of the pedestal. The notches in each guide track are engageable with rollers disposed on a frame of the article of seating furniture, in order to guide the pedestal during movement toward and away from the chair. A backrest assembly is pivotally connected between the frame and the pedestal and moves in conjunction with the pedestal between the upright position and the supine position. The assembly is maintained in the upright position by engagement of the rollers on the frame within the notches in the tracks on the pedestal.

  • Patent number: 6739665
Abstract: A motion chair includes a pair of side frames, each of which has a front leg, a rear leg and a side rail brace member interconnected therebetween. A seat is located between the side frames, and includes a pair of resilient spring-type seat frames. A seat mounting arrangement interconnects each seat frame with one of the side frames. The seat mounting arrangement includes a bracket-type mounting member to which the seat frame is secured. A seat support member is interconnected with the side rail member, and the seat mounting member is secured to the support member. In one form, the seat support member is a metal reinforcement member connected to the side rail member, which is preferably formed of a wood material. The reinforcement member distributes loads and stresses applied to the seat mounting member to and throughout the length of the brace member. In another form, the seat support member is a planar side member that spans across a joint between the leg and the side rail member.
