  • Patent number: 7299642
Abstract: The invention relates to an exchanger, advantageously a plate exchanger, comprising counter-current parallel exchange sections (8,9). According to the invention, the exchange section for the water (8) has an essentially constant cross-section, whereas the exchange section (9) for the cryogen has a reduced inlet region (9a) enabling the possible formation of ice (10) in the water passage (8) to be concentrated on a small volume, without blocking said water passage. The invention can especially be applied to the supply of gaseous hydrogen stored in a liquid form to an on-board power generating device in a vehicle.

  • Patent number: 7273511
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for enriching a combustible gas. The gas mixture is initially flowing in a distribution line at a set pressure. • Patent number: 7263842
Abstract: A method and a device for cooling a mass of meat-, tissue-, vegetable- and/or fruit-containing substance in a container, in particular a mixer, blender or mill, using liquefied nitrogen (N2) which is supplied in the lower region of the container at a constant working pressure via at least one nozzle. During the cooling process and/or in stoppage times, the nitrogen is briefly supplied to the nozzle or, via the latter, into the container by means of at least one pressure pulse that is increased in relation to the working pressure. The pulsed supply of pressurized nitrogen blows blocked and/or iced-up nozzles free again and thus ensures a more reliable operation of cooling a mass of a substance. This method and device are suitable, in particular, for use in foodstuff technology.

  • Patent number: 7263859
Abstract: Process and apparatus for cooling a compressed gas stream which utilizes one or more elongated vessels having a substantially vertical orientation. Each vessel has one compartment for indirect heat exchange between the compressed gas stream and a cooling stream and a second compartment for direct contact between the compressed gas stream and a liquid stream. The two compartments are separated by a barrier, which allows for upward passage of air, but prevents the downward passage of liquid. The design permits one to use the heat present in the compressed air efficiently.

  • Patent number: 7266460
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for determining the NOx content in a combustion flue gas. Several parameters of the combustion process are measured in the combustion furnace. These parameters are then input to a neural network, which then, based upon the input data, generates output data representative of the concentration of NOx in the flue gas. This result is determined without the use of physical NOx sensors.

  • Patent number: 7241389
Abstract: Methods for oxidizing a liquid with an oxidization gas in a closed volume reactor. A feed liquid which contains compounds to be oxidized is fed into the closed volume reactor, and a feed gas containing oxygen is fed into the reactor so as to form a gas overhead above the feed liquid. The overhead is later purged at a specific rate so as to ensure a predetermined oxygen partial pressure is maintained in the gas overhead. The value of this partial pressure corresponds to a predetermined, desired rate of oxidation of the compounds contained in the feed liquid.

  • Patent number: 7227099
Abstract: Methods of controlling an arc welding shop. In the shop, several welding torches are used and each torch is supplied with consumable wire. The wire moves at a wire speed and is subjected to an electrical current. For each torch, either an average wire speed or an average electrical current, as measured over a fixed time period, is determined by a sensor. These values then allow productivity parameters to be selected for the torches. Productivity parameters include the duty factor, the deposition rate, the average duty factor, and the average deposition rate.

  • Patent number: 7176410
Abstract: An electric-arc welding process for assembling parts that are components of a motor vehicle, in which a consumable wire is used that is subjected to a cyclic mechanical movement. The wire is moved closer to and then further away from the parts to be welded so as to create a short arc between the end of the consumable wire and at least one of the parts to be joined. In this way, molten metal is deposited in order to progressively produce a welded joint between the parts.

  • Patent number: 7171815
Abstract: The invention is a method for operating a cryogenic tunnel through which products to be chilled or deep-frozen pass. This tunnel is equipped with means for injecting a cryogenic fluid and means for extracting the cold gases in the tunnel. The method includes obtaining an entry or an exit gas temperature from a gas temperature probe outside the tunnel in proximity to the tunnel entrance or exit. The method also includes obtaining an ambient temperature from an ambient temperature probe located outside the tunnel. The method also includes determining a first delta which is the difference between the ambient temperature and the gas temperature. And the method includes controlling the extraction rate of the extraction means by feedback as a function of the the temperature difference between the first delta and a set point, in order to restore the value of the first delta to the setpoint value if necessary.

  • Patent number: 7156283
Abstract: A method for producing a soldered joint between the metal balls present in either a ball grid array or a chip-scale package, and the receiving pads for a circuit printed on a substrate or the receiving pads of an integrated circuit. Solder cream or an adhesive flux is deposited on the receiving pads, which then have metal balls are placed on them so as to form an assembly. The assembly is placed in an oven so as to heat the metal balls above their melting point. The balls are then cooled at a rate around 5° C./sec, so that the balls remain in their liquid state for a time period between 20 seconds to 65 seconds.

  • Patent number: 7128101
Abstract: Devices for filling portable gas containers and, more specifically, devices to facilitate usage of portable gas cylinders in accordance with the safety criteria for a wide range of gases and commercial applications. The present invention provides a gas supply device to fill a portable container with an electronic label attached. The gas supply device includes a read device, and a control unit. When the portable container is connected to the device and to a gas source, the read device reads the electronic label, thus allowing a control unit to then control the supply of gas to the portable container based on the information encoded by radio frequency induction in the electronic label.
