  • Publication number: 20200165128
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for producing hydrogen from a light hydrocarbon source, in which a synthesis gas is generated by steam methane reforming after desulfurization and optionally pre-reforming of the feedstock. The synthesis gas is enriched with hydrogen by steam conversion of carbon monoxide, and is subsequently purified in a pressure swing adsorption unit to give a pure H2 product and a residual gas mixture containing CH4, CO, H2 and CO2; in accordance with the invention, the conversion step is performed in a cooled reactor in which the heat of the conversion reaction is transferred to a fluid which feeds the burners of the reformer, or to the gas for reforming.

  • Publication number: 20200156937
Abstract: An apparatus and method for purifying a raw hydrogen gas stream of chloramines and chlorine is provided. The explosive chloramines compounds can be effectively captured by the carbon adsorbent without accumulating on the carbon surface. Rather, the chloramines are converted via decomposition, into non-explosive products with catalytic effect of the carbon material. Chlorine reacts with impregnated reducing agent on the carbon surface to form the solid products, which can be adsorbed on the carbon surface. The purified hydrogen gas contains little to no trace of chloramines and chlorine impurities, thereby making the hydrogen gas suitable for liquid hydrogen production.

  • Patent number: 10633250
Abstract: This invention relates to a process and an apparatus for producing a mixed feed stream for a steam reforming plant from a first feed stream containing methane and a second feed stream comprising higher hydrocarbons, olefins and diolefins. According to the invention, the required hydrogenation of the mono- and diolefins and the hydrodesulfurization of the organic sulfur compounds contained in the feed stream are carried out step by step under process conditions optimized in each case. Furthermore, the inlet temperature into the respective reaction zone is controlled such that overheating of the feedstocks is avoided, which otherwise leads to undesired coke deposits, cloggings and the accelerated deactivation of the catalysts used.
