Abstract: Methods and apparatuses in a user equipment (300) and a control server (302) for enabling resumption of a paused media information stream sent in a live broadcast (3:1) of a TV program. When a user has paused (3:2) the broadcasted media in formation stream, the user equipment sends to the control server a request message (3:4) comprising an indicator of the time of pause. The control server then calculates (3:5) an offset value indicating a pause point in the media information stream where the pause occurred, based on the received indicator. The control server sends an answer message (3:6) comprising a file location address of a recorded version of the TV program and the calculated offset value, to the user equipment. The user equipment can then resume the media information stream (3:7, 3:8) from said pause point based on the received file location address and offset value. Thereby, any gap or jump in the resumed TV program due to inaccurate offset can be minimised or avoided.

  • Publication number: 20130329647
Abstract: In a mobile network with a plurality of access networks, a control node, which is controlling access of a user equipment to that one of the access networks which is currently used by the user equipment, performs a determination of an access capability of the user equipment in this access network. The control node provides an indication of the determined access capability to a subscriber database associated with the user equipment. When transmitting the indication, a guard timer is started. After determining the access capability, the control node receives an update indication for the user equipment. In response to receiving the update indication, the control node performs a redetermination of the access capability. Further, the control node checks if the guard timer has expired and, only if the guard timer has not expired, provides a further indication of the redetermined access capability to the subscriber database.

  • Publication number: 20130329834
Abstract: The carrier phase of a carrier wave modulated with information symbols is recovered with a multi-stage, feed-forward carrier phase recovery method. A series of digital signals corresponding to the information signals is received. For each digital signal, a coarse phase recovery is performed to determine a first phase angle which provides a first best estimate of the information symbol corresponding to the digital signal. Using the first best estimate as input, a second stage of estimation is then performed to determine a second phase angle which provides an improved (second) best estimate of the information symbol. Additional stages of estimation can be performed. The multi-stage, feed-forward carrier phase recovery method retains the same linewidth tolerance as a single-stage full blind phase search method; however, the required computational power is substantially reduced. The multi-stage, feed-forward carrier phase recovery method is highly efficient for M-QAM optical signals.

  • Publication number: 20130329561
Abstract: Methods and devices for determining an available load in a cell of a cellular radio system are provided where the determination of the available load is made in response to an estimated inter cell interference load. An estimated inter cell interference is determined. The inter cell interference change events are monitored by determining when a User Equipment changes serving cell or when the User Equipment adds or removes a cell to the active set of the User Equipment. The determined inter cell interference is adjusted by an estimated load caused by the User Equipment causing an inter cell interference change event, and the available load is determined in response to the adjusted inter cell interference. The method can continuously update inter cell interference. Moreover, the update can be made fast and thereby allow an improved estimation of the available cell load.

  • Publication number: 20130329814
Abstract: A first filter decision value is calculated for a block (10) of pixels (11, 13, 15, 17) in a video frame based on pixel values of pixels (11, 13, 15) in a first line (12) of pixels (11, 13, 15, 17) in the block (10). A second filter decision value is also calculated for the block (10) based on pixel values of pixels (21, 23, 25, 27) in a corresponding first line (22) of pixels (21, 23, 25, 27) in a neighboring block (20) in the video frame. The first filter decision value is used to determine how many pixels in a line (12) of pixels (11, 13, 15, 17) in the block (10) to filter relative to a block boundary (1) between the block (10) and the neighboring block (20). The second filter decision value is used to determine how many pixels in a corresponding line (22) of pixels (21, 23, 25, 27) in the neighboring block to filter relative to the block boundary (1).

  • Patent number: 8605709
Abstract: A method of providing signal synchronization for a radio access network may include transmitting a first carrier including synchronization signals on a first frequency from the radio access network. Information relating the first carrier on the first frequency with a second carrier on a second frequency may be transmitted from the radio access network, with this information being intended to be used in synchronization by a wireless terminal upon addition of the second carrier. More particularly, the first and second frequencies may be different. A command to add the second carrier as a downlink for transmissions may be transmitted to the wireless terminal. Related network nodes and wireless terminals are also discussed.

  • Patent number: 8606171
Abstract: Techniques for detecting wireless devices that are signaling in high proximity to a convoy or other operation and preventing messages from reaching the wireless devices. One class of the techniques uses surgical jamming methodologies that minimize power consumption and collateral interference, while being maximally inconspicuous; another class uses baiting beacons to prevent the messages from reaching the wireless devices. Still another class of techniques denies wireless devices access to a wireless network. An exemplary embodiment applies the techniques to wireless devices and beacons in a GSM network.

  • Patent number: 8606901
Abstract: A disclosed application docking module (ADM) for use in a communication network includes a message monitor, an application monitor, and an anomaly handler. The message monitor monitors messages exchanged between a monitored application server and a session control layer resource of the network and the application monitor monitors a heartbeat of the application server. Based on the monitoring, the module determines when the application server is in an anomaly state. The anomaly state may indicate abnormal or otherwise unexpected application server messaging activity and/or an unexpected heartbeat status. The ADM processes application server messages on behalf of the application server when the application server is operating in an anomaly state. The ADM may, for example, block messages outgoing from the application server and process messages incoming to the application server by redirecting messages, returning messages to their sender, or generating an error code.

  • Patent number: 8605829
Abstract: Teachings presented herein offer improved symbol block detection by including a decoder unit in a demodulation system. Utilizing a decoder unit in a demodulation system can significantly enhance symbol block detection because the decoder can produce bit likelihood values (soft bit values), and these bit likelihood values can be used to construct a set of candidate symbol values. Advantageously, this set of candidate symbol values is more likely to contain the actually transmitted symbol(s) than if the decoder unit was not used in the demodulation system.
