  • Patent number: 8525516
Abstract: This atomic clock comprises means for applying two mutually perpendicular oscillating magnetic fields (9, 10), governed by a control device (5) that makes them apply a static or nearly static magnetic field for compensating the ambient magnetic field in order to cancel sub-level energy variations of the matter, which disrupt the frequency of the returned photons and the reference provided by the clock. Traditional magnetic shielding may be omitted. Said device can also operate as a magnetometer.

  • Patent number: 8527843
Abstract: The iterative decoding of blocks may be continued or terminated based on CRC checks. In an example embodiment, one iteration of an iterative decoding process is performed on a block whose information bits are covered by a CRC. The iterative decoding process is stopped if the CRC checks for a predetermined number of consecutive iterations. In another example embodiment, a decoding iteration is performed on a particular sub-block of multiple sub-blocks of a transport block, which includes a single CRC over an entirety of the transport block. The CRC is checked using decoded bits obtained from the decoding iteration on the particular sub-block and decoded bits obtained from previous decoding iterations on other sub-blocks of the multiple sub-blocks. The decoding iteration is then performed on a different sub-block if the CRC does not check. Also, the decoding iterations for the sub-blocks may be terminated if the CRC checks.

  • Patent number: 8527832
Abstract: The invention relates to a coding method with incremental redundancy in which it is determined (620) whether to carry out the coding of a sequence of information symbols using a first code (C), of the LDPC type, defined by a first check matrix, H, or rather using a second code ({tilde over (C)}), of lesser efficiency than that of the first code, the second code being defined by a second check matrix, {tilde over (H)}, obtained by fractionation (630) of the rows of the first check matrix. The invention finds application to, among others, a link adaptation method, a turbo-coding method, a distributed coding method within a cooperative network, a packet transmission method using an IR-HARQ protocol.

  • Patent number: 8526509
Abstract: Blocking artifacts at a block boundary (1) between a block (10) and a neighboring block (20) in a video frame are reduced by calculating an offset based on pixel values of pixels (11, 13) in a line (12) of pixels (11, 13, 15, 17) in the block (10) and based on pixel values of pixels (21, 23) in a corresponding line (22) of pixels (21, 23, 25, 27) in the neighboring block (20). The offset is added to the pixel value of the pixel (11) closest to the block boundary (1) in the line (12) of pixels (11, 13, 15, 17) and is subtracted from the pixel value of the pixel (21) closest to the block boundary (1) in the corresponding line (22) of pixels (21, 23, 25, 27). The resulting deblocking filter has good low-pass characteristics and is efficient for reducing blocking artifact.

  • Patent number: 8526958
Abstract: A method and system for handover of a mobile station (MS) to an unlicensed mobile access network controller (UNC) in an unlicensed mobile access network (UMAN). In one embodiment, the MS sends an unlicensed mobile access (UMA) radio resource (URR) Registration Request message to the UNC with one or more location identifiers for the MS. The location identifiers may include a GSM Cell Global Identity, an access point (AP) Radio Identity, a set of GPS coordinates, or an AP location. The UNC selects absolute radio frequency channel numbers (ARFCN) and base station identity codes (BSIC) values from a table based on the location identifiers and returns them to the MS in a URR Registration Accept message.

  • Patent number: 8526933
Abstract: A Radio Base Station (RBS) and method of operating the same are provided. The RBS may enable a fast and flexible reconfiguration of the system from a first configuration to a second confirmation where the RBS is triggered to initiate a system reconfiguration and the reconfiguration is performed by starting a new cell with the wanted new configuration in parallel with the original cell. During a certain time period, both the original and the new cell are available. Thereafter, the original cell is shut down. The time offset between the start up of the new cell and the shut down of the original cell may be long enough to ensure that user equipment associated with the original cell can be handed over or can reselect the new cell. The time offset may be short enough to reduce the interference between the original and new cells.

  • Patent number: 8526305
Abstract: The present invention provides systems and methods that enable a base station to consume less power. According to an embodiment of the invention, the base station reduces its power consumption by not continuously broadcasting control information. In such an embodiment, a mobile station that seeks access to a network to which the base station provides access does not search for broadcast control information prior to transmitting an access message to the base station, but rather simply transmits on a predetermined access channel an access request message. A base station that receives the access request message may unicast control information to the mobile station.

  • Patent number: 8526435
Abstract: A packet node and corresponding methods are provided for providing services to packets received at the packet node. At an ingress card, a packet is classified and a virtual media access control (VMAC) address is attached to the packet. The VMAC address identifies a service component for providing a service to the packet. Layer two switching of the packet is made within the packet node, based on the VMAC address. After processing of the packet by the service component, a new VMAC address is attached to the packet. Further layer two switching of the packet, based on the new VMAC address, may lead to further processing by another service component or to forwarding of the packet beyond the packet node.

  • Patent number: 8528023
Abstract: Extended television (TV) reminders enable a user to add a reminder about a TV program or other content in a communication network, a reminder that can be connected to either an event from the EPG or just a time and date. If the user is logged in on an Internet protocol (IP) TV system, the reminder can be displayed on the user's TV display, and if the user is not logged in, a message can be sent to a user device, e.g., a Short Message Service (SMS), text, or other message. Choices presented to the user when a reminder occurs can include accept, snooze (for a configurable amount of time), and delete, among others. If the reminder is connected to a linear TV program, an option to record the program can also be presented (if allowed by the user's subscription and equipment). Reminders are preferably stored in the network, e.g., as a part of a user's service profile.
