  • Patent number: 8486810
Abstract: A layer of second semiconductor material is deposited on the layer of first semiconductor material of a substrate. Two active areas are then defined by means of selective elimination of the first and second semiconductor materials. One of the two active areas is then covered by a protective material. The layer of second semiconductor material is then eliminated by means of selective elimination of material. A first active area comprising a main surface made from a first semiconductor material, and a second active area comprising a main surface made from second semiconductor material are thus obtained.

  • Patent number: 8489749
Abstract: A system, method, and media edge proxy, MEP, (17) for providing media data such as Internet Protocol Television, IPTV, or Internet radio channels to a media client (12). The MEP obtains the media data from a media server (18) utilizing a temporary unicast connection and provides the media data obtained from the server to the media client for an initial time period. Upon determining that the initial time period has expired, the MEP obtains the media data via multicast from a multicast router (27), provides the media data obtained from the router to the media client, and releases the temporary unicast connection. The invention reduces channel switching delay and thus improves quality-of-experience for the end-user. The invention also avoids excessive IGMP JOIN/LEAVE signaling when a user switches quickly through channels.

Abstract: Example methods disclosed herein include parsing a request to obtain input criteria associated with the request, the request for authorizing an outdial communication service call initiated by a message center. Such example methods also include retrieving authorization rules correlating the input criteria to an authorization result for the outdial communication service call, the input criteria comprising a first input criterion having one of at least two values, a first value indicating that the outdial communication service call is for a real-time outdial service initiated in response to an indial communication service received at the message center, a second value indicating that the outdial communication service call is for a non-real-time outdial service initiated by an application server associated with the message center. Such example methods further include evaluating the authorization rules using the input criteria to determine whether the outdial communication service call is authorized.

Abstract: A microbicidal filter for treating air, includes including, in the allocated direction of flow of the air stream capable of passing therethrough, a filtration layer and a HEPA filter. The filtration layer contains a bactericidal and/or fungicidal agent, and the HEPA filter is pleated while being applied against a second pleated filtration layer that is arranged downstream, so as to prevent the mutual contacting of its pleats. The combination of the action of the impregnated layer and of the HEPA filter inhibits or kills by contact all the living particles that penetrate into the microbicidal filter. The HEPA filter is held in stable application in the pleated shape thereof against the second filtration layer, so that filtering performance deteriorates only gradually.

Abstract: Techniques for organizing nodes of an ad hoc broadcast network into sets and employing the sets to arbitrate access by the nodes to a shared communications medium. Each node has a copy of a signal library and the node indicates its membership in the set by associating itself with a signal in the library. In one application, the signals are ranked, the set is a queue, and the node's position in the queue is indicated by the rank of the signal associated with the node. Each node has rules for selecting the next signal. The hidden terminal problem is solved by having each node broadcast its tone and all of the other tones it has heard. The techniques are particularly useful for the broadcast of ephemeral information by the nodes.

  • Publication number: 20130174343
Abstract: A system and method for incorporating presence-sensing technology into furniture is provided. More particularly, the invention relates to detecting presence using a metal, adjustable bed frame. The bed frame is pulsed with a voltage to provide a charge, against which capacitance is measured. A controller determines the corresponding response based on presence detection by the frame. Conductive bushings may also be used to measure capacitance using the bed frame. In further embodiments, capacitance is measured by a foil tape surrounding a perimeter of the adjustable bed. The foil tape has a voltage based on proximity of an object to the tape, and may be embedded with a capacitive wire. A processor receives information regarding changes in capacitance and determines when a change in voltage satisfies a threshold. Based on a determination of presence, or lack of presence, a variety of corresponding features of the adjustable bed may be activated.

  • Publication number: 20130176850
Abstract: A method enables a switch in a split-architecture network to provide high speed packet processing and enhanced network functionalities that are not supported by the OpenFlow. The switch receives a packet from a network through an input port of the switch, and matches header fields in the packet against table entries in flow tables to identify an action to be taken. The flow tables are part of an OpenFlow pipeline. The identified action is to direct the packet to a designated processing unit in the switch. The OpenFlow pipeline forwards the packet to the designated processing unit via a communication channel in the switch. The designated processing unit processes the packet with the enhanced network functionalities, and injects the packet back to one of the flow tables before transmission of the packet to the network through an egress port of the switch.

  • Publication number: 20130176949
Abstract: Methods for allocating spectrum resources among a plurality of devices in a wireless communication network are disclosed. In one aspect, an estimated number of resource blocks required by a first device and an estimated number of resource blocks required by a second device are determined. The required number of resource blocks may be determined by considering the number of resource blocks that would be necessary to empty the buffer of a first device and/or determining the number of resource blocks that would be sufficient to cause the first device to become power limited. These estimates may then be used to calculate first and second utilization weights, which can in turn be used to calculate scheduling entity weights for a plurality of scheduling entities, such as UEs in the communication network. Allocation may be based on the scheduling entity weights, utilization weights, and/or the required number of resource blocks.

Abstract: The invention provides a method by which a network element in a telecommunications network can report factors that have limited the performance of a UE in an observation period. A bottleneck score is calculated for each factor, the bottleneck score providing a measurement of the extent to which that factor has limited the performance of that UE compared to other factors in the observation period A data record for the UE is populated with the bottleneck scores and sent in a report towards upper layer management functions. When these reports are received (e.g. by a MME) they may be complemented with global entities of the users and aggregated measures created.
