Abstract: A wheel for a vehicle includes an inner hub portion that is configured to receive an axle therethrough and which defines an axis of rotation at a center thereof. The wheel includes an outer rim portion. A plurality of wheel spoke portions extend generally between the inner hub portion and the outer rim portion. The inner hub portion, the outer rim portion, and the plurality of spoke portions cooperate to form a wheel outer surface having a plurality of turbine openings. The outer surface of the wheel defines a wheel reference plane that is oriented generally perpendicular to the axis of rotation. The wheel outer surface is the side that face away from a vehicle. Each of the plurality of wheel spoke portions has an outer side adjacent the wheel outer surface, an inner side opposite the outer side, a leading side surface and a trailing side surface.
Abstract: A mount apparatus for securing a license plate to a vehicle. The mount apparatus includes a bracket that has a back side for facing the vehicle and a front side for being engaged by the license plate. At least one fastener extends through the bracket for connecting the bracket to the vehicle. At least one energy absorption device receives the fastener and engages and extends away from the back side of the bracket for spacing the bracket and the license plate from the vehicle to absorb energy transferred to the bracket during an impact with the license plate to dissipate the amount of energy transferred from the bracket to the vehicle during the impact.
Abstract: A decorative assembly (20) includes a translucent part (26) overlaying a portion of a chromed visible surface (24) of a base part (22) to define a first visible portion (28) of the chromed visible surface (24) not covered by the plastic layer and a second visible portion (30) of the chromed visible surface (24) covered by but visible through the translucent part (26) for allowing the chromed visible surface (24) to be freely exposed along the first visible portion (28) and for allowing light to pass through the translucent part (26) and reflect off the second visible portion (30) of said chromed visible surface (24). At least one of the second visible portion (30) of the chromed visible surface (24) or the translucent part (26) includes a three-dimensional texture (32) to redirect the light reflected off the second visible portion (30) of the chromed visible surface (24).
Abstract: A grill for attachment to a front portion of a vehicle including a base frame structure with a mesh front structure secured thereto. The grill has at least one picture frame structure that is moveable with respect to the base frame structure. The grill also includes a plurality of louvers that are in communication with and moveable with respect to each of the base frame structure and the at least one picture frame structure. A motor unit is associated with the grill and is in communication with the at least one picture frame structure to effectuate movement thereof such that as the at least one picture frame structure moves, the plurality of louvers between an open position and a closed position, whereby openings between adjacent ones of the plurality of louvers are exposed or shut off.
Abstract: A vehicle wheel assembly includes a vehicle wheel having an outer surface, and a wheel cladding having an outer surface, an inner surface facing the outer surface of the wheel, and at least one aperture extending between the outer surface and the inner surface. The vehicle wheel assembly further includes a trim insert assembly that includes a first member that abuts the outer surface of the wheel cladding substantially proximate the at least one aperture of the wheel cladding, and at least one first portion of a coupler, and a second member including an outer surface having an aesthetic outer appearance, and at least one second portion of a coupler, wherein the first portion of the coupler and the second portion of the coupler are coupled with one another, thereby securing the trim insert within the aperture of the wheel cladding.
Abstract: A process employing a rack having an article carrier that is movably supported on a frame and mechanically coupled for translating movement from a motor to the article carrier to effect movement of an article during processing to provide more uniform surface treatment, reducing or eliminating the need for shielding.
Abstract: A process for preparing a chrome substrate for application of a polymer coating, wherein the substrate preparation enhances adhesion and durability of the adhesion between the chrome substrate and the polymer coating, involves contacting the chrome substrate with an acid solution for a period of time sufficient to modify the surface of the chrome substrate. In certain embodiments, the acid treatment is an anodic treatment. In accordance with certain aspects of this invention, the acid treated chrome surface is further treated with a silane compound to enhance adhesion with a subsequently applied polymer coating composition.
