Abstract: A method is disclosed in which a configuration code identifying the type and specification of a vehicle (1) is stored in a memory device (2) during manufacture of the vehicle (1). Information relating to one or more types of vehicle is uploaded into a mass storage device (3) located on the vehicle from an external data source (4). The stored configuration code is then used to select from the information stored on the mass storage device (3) only the information relating to the particular vehicle (1) so that only relevant information can be accessed by a user of the vehicle (1). The method may also include restricting the information provided if the vehicle speed is above a predetermined vehicle speed.

Abstract: A flow restrictor for use in a cooling system of an internal engine comprises a housing enclosing an elongate body, a number of alternating first and second circumferentially extending passages formed in the elongate body. Each first passage is separated from a respective adjacent second passage by a respective land and at least one transfer passage extending across each land so as to connect the first and second passages on each side of the land and provide a significant loss in fluid momentum.
Abstract: A vehicle door system comprises: a door (16) formed from a plurality of panels (18, 20) which define a door cavity (22), one of the panels (20) having an aperture (44) therein at a hinged end of the door; and a check mechanism. The check mechanism comprises a check arm housing (40) mounted within the door cavity (22) and a check arm (42) connected to the vehicle body and extending through the aperture (44) and through the check arm housing (40). The check arm (42) is movable through the check arm housing (40) to allow opening and closing of the door (16). The check arm (42) has a flow restrictor formed on it arranged to restrict the flow of water along the check arm through the aperture.

Abstract: A brake control system for a motor vehicle having a plurality of wheels, brakes for applying a braking effort to one or more of the wheels, and movement sensing means for detecting movement of the vehicle. The system comprises: brake actuation means for actuating the brakes to supply a braking effort; and brake control means for controlling the brake actuation means, wherein the brake control means is arranged to determine an acceleration of the vehicle based on movement detected by the movement sensing means and to ensure that the brake actuation means supplies a braking effort if the determined acceleration exceeds a set acceleration limit.
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a controller for a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) having an engine and an electric machine, the controller being configured upon start-up to control an electric machine to provide torque to drive a vehicle with an engine off if a state of charge (SoC) of an energy storage device is above an EV-start SoC threshold and to start an engine if a SoC of an energy storage device is below the EV-start SoC threshold, wherein the EV-start SoC threshold is determined to be one selected from amongst a value sufficient to allow a vehicle to travel a prescribed distance before a SoC falls below a SoC minimum level at which an engine is started and a value sufficient to allow a vehicle to operate for a prescribed time period before a SoC falls below the SoC minimum level.
Abstract: An expansion tank is disclosed in which a non-return valve is fitted in an outlet port of the expansion tank to limit backflow of coolant into the expansion tank in the event that the pressure in the expansion tank falls below the pressure in a return conduit thereby preventing the expansion tank from filling with coolant. The non-return valve and the expansion tank are formed as a single component and the non-return valve is located in an outlet port of the expansion tank.
Abstract: A brake control system for a motor vehicle having a plurality of wheels, brakes for applying a braking force to one or more of the wheels, sensing means for detecting movement of the vehicle, and one or more selectable drive gears each associated with an intended direction of movement of the vehicle. The system comprises: brake actuation means for actuating the brakes to supply a braking effort; and brake control means for controlling the brake actuation means, wherein the brake control means is arranged to detect the selection of a drive gear and, when a drive gear is selected, to limit a movement of the vehicle in a direction opposed to the intended direction of movement associated with the selected drive gear by ensuring that the brake actuation means supplies a braking effort.
