Abstract: 2Wireless devices capable of supporting multiple wireless configuration profiles are presented. A wireless device determines an environmental context, which is used to select a profile traversal method. A profile selection module configures itself to traverse available profiles according the traversals method to identify an acceptable profile. Once identified, the wireless device's communication port is configured to operate according to the profile.

  • Publication number: 20150312219
Abstract: An asset management system is presented. The management system includes monitoring devices able to provide asset data across firewalls without requiring reconfiguration of the firewalls. The asset data pass through a forwarding service that instantiates a virtual tunnel comprising a communication channel between the monitoring devices and remote asset management engines. The asset management engines can also be located behind firewalls. As the management engines aggregate asset data, the engines can present one or more alerts via a management interface.

  • Publication number: 20150146706
Abstract: A system and apparatus for remotely provisioning and operating a headless WiFi device is described that provides for provision of the headless WiFi device so as to connect the headless WiFi device to a network, and provides for remote control of the headless WiFi using a mobile device or a monitoring computer. A direct WiFi connection may be established between the mobile device and the headless WiFi device through a software WiFi access point, or, once the headless WiFi device is provisioned onto a network, a network connection may be established. Once established, the connection may switch between the direct connection and the network connection without providing an indication to a user. A mobile device or monitoring computer may be used to control the operation of and receive status information from a legacy device connected to the headless WiFi device.

  • Publication number: 20150120820
Abstract: A system and a method are provided for enabling a user to connect a serial port of a device server to a serial device, query and capture data and settings pertaining to the serial device such that the device server can communicate and exchange data with the serial device without requiring customized programming. The device server may periodically query and capture user-specified data from the serial device. A poll configuration feature may be used to specify one or more commands which the device server will periodically query from the serial device. The response to each poll may be further sliced into a multiplicity of smaller portions according to user-specified filter rules. The captured data may be presented to other users online by way of a Web Manager, and the device server may establish machine-to-machine communications by way of XML and a Command Line Interface.

  • Publication number: 20150095635
Abstract: A method and system that allows a host system application to securely communicate with a legacy device is provided. A redirector software module receives data that is destined for a host system serial COM port. Data is secured and re-directed to a legacy device via a network port instead of the serial COM port. Conversely, data destined for the host system is provided to a device server via a server COM port by the legacy serial device. The data can be encrypted and sent to the host system via the network. The redirector software module decrypts the encrypted data and presents it to the consumer application as if the data had arrived via the local COM port.

  • Publication number: 20150020186
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and system are described for a central management system to configure remote devices. A device service manager server (DSM) may have an IP redirector module configured to cooperate with two or more device service controllers (DSCs) that are behind a firewall on a wide area network relative to a location of the DSM on the wide area network, where the DSM serves as a central management station for a distribution of configuration information to the DSCs, wherein an executable boot up file uploaded via a drive port in that DSC is scripted to gather configuration information for that DSC and network devices on the same network as that DSC and without a prompt by the DSM then sends an initial configuration file to the DSM which makes a master copy of the device configuration file in the DSM's registry for that DSC.

  • Patent number: 8924518
Abstract: The present invention generally relates to a communication protocol converter to allow a legacy device utilizing IPv4 to operate across the network using IPv6. In a first embodiment of the invention, two modular Ethernet connectors are placed side-by-side. A first modular connector receives IPv4 Ethernet data which is converted to a raw data signal. The data is transmitted from the first modular connector to a second modular connector by a bidirectional data line. The second connector receives the raw data, and a raw data-to-Ethernet conversion is completed providing output at IPv6. The present invention utilizes the form factor structure of the Ethernet connectors, so that the entire electronic circuitry is contained within the connectors to complete the conversion. An alternate embodiment incorporates the connectors into a single housing and the conversion is completed internally by a microprocessor and embedded software. A method of IPv4 to IPv6 conversion is additionally disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20140280850
Abstract: An engine within a system capable of instantiating a state machine used to monitor an associated legacy device. The engine can instantiate state machine variables related to desired characteristics and derive values for the variables based on an analog signal received from the legacy device. • Patent number: 8793353
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and system are described for a central station to allocate virtual IP addresses. A device service manager server (DSM) has a network access module conFigured to cooperate with two or more device service controllers (DSCs). The DSM serves as a central management station for allocating and assigning Virtual IP addresses to network devices to proxy communications for networked devices on a local area network (LAN) where each DSC resides. The DSM is located exterior from the network devices on the LAN where communications associated with the assigned VIP addresses are being routed to. The DSM assigns a Virtual IP Addresses to each DSC and establishes a route from the assigned Virtual IP address to a destination network device on a LAN, based on corresponding DSC and network device information stored in a registry of the DSM.

  • Publication number: 20140201394
Abstract: Apparatus, systems and methods in which one can implement a legacy device management system to control and operate a legacy device coupled to the system. The system is configured to pull device attributes from the legacy device and use those attributes to obtain an inventory of possible device drivers that could be used with the legacy device. The system then applies acquisition rules to whittle down and prioritize the possible device drivers within a matrix and then identifies which driver to use in accordance with the system's local configuration. The system is generally implemented in a stand-alone apparatus that could be coupled between the legacy device and a computer system.
