  • Patent number: 5008670
Abstract: A new method is presented which converts the phases and frequencies of HF and microwave signals into sequences of digital words. This phase quantization is 10 times faster compared to conventional amplitude quantization by means of extremely fast A/D converters. In this method, n parallel shifted signal phases are initially derived from the HF signals by means of a signal phase generator, and in a bank of comparators these signal phases are then converted into rectangular oscillations (sequences). A subsequent digital sampling of these sequences then furnishes the phases of the HF signals as digital values at the output of the circuit.

  • Patent number: 4995504
Abstract: As a device for straightening of letters and similar flat transported articles upon passage from a free wheeling section with a bottom conveyor belt to a cover belt section, whereby the letters are transported upright on a lengthwise edge and generally at the transition to the cover belt section are shifted in the vertical direction between the side belts of the free wheeling section by running against the bottom belt, a guide plate is provided at either side in the letter displacement zone, the plate has a step extending parallel in the direction of transport of the side belts and has a width equalling the thickness of a side belt, for the purpose of avoiding tearing of the letter flaps. The guide plates extend to the upper edge of the side belts and, by the flutter-free movement of the side belts, achieve a smooth sliding of the letters between the side belts.

  • Patent number: 4975133
Abstract: An apparatus for receiving components having overlapping surfaces and welding the components together with the use of ultrasound. An ultrasound emitter receives a high frequency current and converts it into mechanical ultrasonic vibrations having the same frequency. A transmitter transmits the ultrasonic vibrations to a sonotrode which focuses the ultrasonic vibrations on the components to be welded together. The sonotrode is provided with a circumferential collar and means are provided for lowering the collar during the welding process so that a part of the collar tangentially contacts the overlapping surface of one of the components. The part of the collar which tangentially contacts the overlapping surface introduces ultrasonic energy into the components. The ultrasonic emitter, transmitter and sonotrode are rotatably mounted via a vibration node of the transmitter.

  • Patent number: 4968372
Abstract: A method of producing a flexible carrier substrate for a photovoltaic solar generator wherein a polyimide film disposed on a heatable lamination table is coated with an adhesive and hardened whereupon, after the application of an adhesion promoting layer, a glass filament fabric is placed onto the polyimide film and is subsequently saturated with a silicone adhesive. Resistance of the generator to atomic oxygen is obtained by performing the following method steps: (a) during the production of the substrate, a tear-away fabric is introduced into the not-yet-hardened silicone adhesive; (b) the laminate composed of polyimide film, glass filament fabric and tear-away fabric is hardened under vacuum; and (c) before the solar cells are glued onto the flexible carrier substrate, the tear-away fabric is removed in such a manner that a torn-open, structured silicone surface is produced onto which the solar cells of the generator can be glued.

  • Patent number: 4959328
Abstract: A method for manufacturing semiconductor components contactable on both sides, in particular IMPATT diodes. The active silicon layers of the IMPATT diode are grown onto a silicon substrate. The first silicon layer grown onto the silicon substrate has a high boron/germanium doping level and acts as an etch atop layer when the substrate is removed. The boron/germanium doping of the first silicon layer compensates for the mechanical stress in the silicon layer generated by the boron doping.

  • Patent number: 4939523
Abstract: In an aircraft on-board radar system employing a sharply focused directional pattern which is able to sweep over a given space range, the range in the MPRF mode is limited primarily by the ground clutter picked up via the side lobes of the antenna pattern. To increase the range, an antenna is employed which, due to asymmetrical distribution of the antenna aperture (signal field) in the elevational direction with respect to the center of the aperture, has a significantly higher side lobe spacing below the principal lobe than above the principal lobe. Because of the side lobe spacing being greater below the principal lobe, less ground clutter components are picked up while the smaller side lobe spacing above the principal lobe results in hardly any increase of clutter components in the echo signal.

  • Patent number: 4935375
Abstract: A structured semiconductor body based on a Si substrate and having monocrystalline semiconductor regions and barrier regions which contain polycrystalline silicon which have preferably been produced in an Si-MBE process. The barrier regions are provided to delimit the monocrystalline Si semiconductor structures to prevent undesired current flow, for example between two monocrystalline devices of an integrated circuit. The polycrystalline silicon of the barrier regions has a substantially lower electrical conductivity than the monocrystalline regions, and consequently it is possible to spatially selectively dope portions the barrier region so as to provide regions which electrically contact a monocrystalline silicon region. In a preferred embodiment a polycrystalline silicon region within the barrier region is doped so that it forms a pn-junction with the adjacent monocrystalline semiconductor region and can be used, for example, as an emitter zone of a bipolar device.
