Abstract: A fluid flow control device comprising an insert body having a first portion with a first permeability and second portion with a second permeability that is different from the first permeability. The insert body can be shaped for sealing insertion into a fluid flow structure for fluid flow therethrough. The first portion and the second portion can be arranged in the insert body to cause uniform fluid flow velocity of fluid in the fluid flow structure at an exit of the insert body when the fluid passes through the first portion and the second portion when the insert body is placed inside the fluid flow structure.

Abstract: A method and system for determining a custom personal identification number (PIN) for a user based on an ordered series of events are disclosed, comprising generating the custom PIN for the user based on a set of stored events of the user, each event associated with a point in time and authenticating the user responsive to receiving information that matches the custom PIN. A chronological order of a selected subset of events can be determined. A chronological identifier can be assigned representative of a position of the respective event in the determined chronological order. The custom PIN can be determined as an arrangement of the chronological identifiers. The selected subset of events can be presented to the user in the arranged order. The user can be authenticated responsive to determining that a received indication of a chronological arrangement matches the determined PIN.

Abstract: A burn-in compensation method and a computing device configured for burn-in compensation is disclosed. The burn-in compensation can minimize or eliminate a burn-in of an OLED display having areas with different pixel densities. Each area of the OLED display may be divided into zones that include one or more pixels and a burn-in factor may be computed for the zones. A limiting burn-in factor may be determined from a limiting zone that exhibits the highest burn-in. Other zones with burn-in factors that area significantly different from the limiting burn-in factor can be adjusted so that the pixels in the adjusted zones can be driven to radiate similar light at a power similar to the liming zone. The burn-in compensation may be performed for each area and a transition region may be created between areas to minimize light artifacts after burn-in compensation.

Abstract: A method for controlling the orientation of a single-axis solar tracker orientable about an axis of rotation, said method repetitively completing successive control phases, where each control phase implements the following successive steps: a) observing the cloud coverage above the solar tracker; b) comparing the observed cloud coverage with cloud coverage models stored in a database, each cloud coverage model being associated to an orientation setpoint value of the solar tracker; c) matching the observed cloud coverage with a cloud coverage model; d) servo-controlling the orientation of the solar tracker by applying the orientation setpoint value associated to said cloud coverage model retained during step c).

Abstract: In some embodiments, user extraction of in-video text may be facilitated. In some embodiments, a video associated with a video communication session may be processed to detect moving text to which a first user is referring in the video. Based on the detection of the moving text, location information associated with the moving text may be determined. For example, the location information may indicate spatial locations of the moving text. Based on the text location information, a graphical text location indicator may be overlayed on the video (e.g., on a first portion of a user interface of a user device) where the graphical text location indicator is presented proximate the moving text. Selectable text corresponding to the moving text and an auxiliary indicator corresponding to the graphical text location indicator may be presented on a second portion of the user interface.
Abstract: A micro-light emitting diode (micro-LED) device includes semiconductor mesa structures, and waveguides and grating couplers in regions of a semiconductor layer between the semiconductor mesa structures. At least some light emitted in the active region of each semiconductor mesa structure can be coupled into and guided by a waveguide towards a grating coupler. The grating coupler is configured to diffract the guided light out of the micro-LED device, for example, in a direction substantially perpendicular to the light-emitting surface of the micro-LED device, through regions between the semiconductor mesa structures.
Abstract: Pill cutters and methods of cutting pills. The pill cutters may optionally include a spinnable blade and may be configured to cause the blade to spin to cut a pill. The pill cutters may be adapted to adjust the position of the pill before cutting the pill.
Abstract: A controller obtains plural images generated by an imaging device disposed onboard a vehicle, and analyzes at least first and second images of the plural images to identify a feature of interest that is offboard the vehicle and at least partially depicted in the first and second images. The controller determines a first unit vector for the feature of interest based on a first location of the feature of interest in the first image, and determines a second unit vector for the feature of interest based on a second location of the feature of interest in the second image. The controller calculates a third location of the feature of interest, relative to a physical environment, based on the first unit vector, the second unit vector, and at least one of a first reference location of the vehicle or a second reference location of the vehicle.
Abstract: Secure serial bus communication methods and devices suitable for automotive applications. An illustrative sensor IC includes: a sensor controller that operates a transducer to obtain measurement data formattable as data packets; a scrambler that masks each data packet with a scrambling operation before that data block is sent via a serial bus to a bus controller device, said scrambling operation having a secret configuration and/or secret initial state; and an integrated circuit component that operates on a seed value to derive the secret configuration and/or secret initial state.
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to systems, methods, and computer-readable media for enhancing security of communications between instances of clients and servers while enabling rotation of server certificates (e.g., X.509 certificates). The systems described herein involve updating a client list of server certificates (e.g., a certificate thumbprint) without reconfiguring or re-installing a client and/or server application, starting a new session (e.g., a hypertext transfer protocol secure (HTTPS) session), or deploying new code. The systems described herein may passively or actively update a client list of certificates to enable a client to security verify an identity of a server instance in a non-invasive way that boosts security from man-in-the-middle types of attacks.

Abstract: Presented are thermal management systems with passive quenching sacks for cooling battery assemblies, methods for making/using such systems, and vehicles equipped with such systems. A passive thermal management (PTM) system is presented for cooling a battery assembly, such as a traction battery pack with a battery case containing stacked battery cells. The PTM system includes a fluid container that mounts inside the battery assembly, interposed between the battery case and battery cells. The fluid container stows therein a dielectric coolant fluid and has multiple fluid ports that fluidly connect to the battery cells to dispense thereto the coolant fluid. Thermomechanical plugs, such as wax, film, or smart-material barriers, seal the fluid container ports and passively open (e.g., melt, bend, disintegrate, expand, etc.) at a predefined temperature to thereby unseal the fluid ports such that the coolant fluid is fed from the fluid container into the battery cells.
