Abstract: For gas lift, gas lift valves install on a completion in a wellbore. The gas lift valve has a pressure-sensitive valve and a check valve configured to control communication in the valve. A piston is held closed with a first connection relative to the valve's outlet exposed to tubing pressure, while the check valve is held open in the valve with a second connection. Pressure testing can be performed on the integrity of the tubing and casing by increasing the tubing and annulus pressures while the piston stays closed. The gas lift valve is then actuated for operation by increasing the tubing or annulus pressure beyond a predetermined limit of the first connection to release the piston to move open relative to the outlet. The movement of the piston releases the hold of the second connection on the check valve so the check valve can function normally as a one-way valve.

Abstract: Radiation detectors and methods of using the radiation detectors that provide a route for surface decontamination during use are described. The detectors utilize light illumination of an internal surface during use. Light is in the longer UV to near-infrared spectra and desorbs contamination from internal surfaces of radiation detectors. The methods can be carried out while the detectors are in operation, preventing the appearance of the negative effects of radioactive and non-radioactive contamination during a detection regime and following a detection regime.

Abstract: In a message receiver, a receipt timestamp is assigned according to a time of wirelessly receiving a message. Object data about an object is extracted from the message, including a timestamp adjustment for the object from a message sender. An estimated sender capture timestamp is assigned to the object by subtracting the timestamp adjustment and an estimated message transmission latency from the receipt timestamp; a receiver capture timestamp is assigned to receiver object data captured in the receiver. The sender object data and the receiver object data are combined according to the estimated sender capture timestamp and the receiver capture timestamp, thereby generating combined object data.

Abstract: Equipment for fermentation of beverages, particularly kombucha, that limits alcohol production during fermentation, increases throughput by reducing fermentation times, and utilizes production plant floorspace efficiently. Unlike traditional fermentation equipment that uses large, often cylindrical, vats, embodiments of the invention use vertical stacks of relatively shallow fermentation trays. The shallow trays increase the ratio of surface area to liquid volume, thereby improving oxygen flow to the fermenting liquid; increased oxygen flow reduces alcohol production for kombucha and reduces fermentation time. Air gaps between trays in the vertical stack, and headspace between the top of the fermenting liquid and the tray top edges, are optimized to promote oxygen flow. Fermentation trays are stacked vertically to maintain high production capacity with limited facility floorspace.
Abstract: A vehicle includes an inverter having first and second half bridges configured to provide multiphase voltage to an electric machine. The vehicle further includes a controller configured to activate a switch of the first half bridge and pulse width modulate a switch of the second half bridge to conduct resonant output on a rail of the inverter to the electric machine such that the multiphase voltage is created for at least a sixth of a cycle of the electric machine. The activation is responsive to a torque command.
Abstract: A storage device controller includes a scheduler that implements selection logic for selecting commands for execution from a command queue according to a probability based on an in-queue age of each pending command.
Abstract: A coating that can be easily applied, clear, well-bonded, and superhydrophobic is disclosed. In one aspect, a method for coating a substrate comprises providing a substrate having a surface, disposing a coating composition adjacent the surface, the composition comprising a hydrophobic fluorinated solvent, a binder comprising a hydrophobic fluorinated polymer, and hydrophobic fumed silica nanoparticles. Also disclosed is an article comprising a coating layer, the coating layer comprising a plurality of nanoparticles partially exposed on an outward surface thereof.
Abstract: A differential pressure indicator (DPI) for use with a downhole isolation valve includes a tubular mandrel for assembly as part of a casing string and for receiving a tubular string. The mandrel has a stop shoulder and a piston shoulder. The DPI further includes a tubular housing for assembly as part of the casing string and for receiving the tubular string. The housing is movable relative to the mandrel between an extended position and a retracted position and has a stop shoulder and a piston shoulder. The DPI further includes a hydraulic chamber formed between the piston shoulders and a coupling in communication with the hydraulic chamber and for connection to a sensing line. The housing is movable relative to the mandrel and to the extended position in response to tension exerted on the DPI.

Abstract: An acoustic guitar strap lock adapter that utilizes a conventional strap lock system in a manner that does not require modification to be made to the guitar. The adapter includes an elongated body having first and second ends, a first opening formed through the elongated body adjacent the first end thereof and being internally threaded to co-axially engage with the guitar's pick-up jack; and a second opening formed through the elongated body adjacent the second end thereof and being configured to securely receive a strap lock therein, whereby the guitar strap can be anchored to the acoustic guitar at a position offset from the pick-up jack.
Abstract: A remote temperature monitoring system includes a first unit operatively connected to one or more temperature sensors for sensing the temperature of one or more materials or food items being cooked or heated. The first unit transmits the sensed temperature to a second unit that is located remotely from the first unit during heating. The second unit is programmable with the desired temperature and/or heating parameters of the item. By monitoring the temperature status of the item over time, the system determines when the food has reached the desired temperature or degree of cooking, and notifies the user.
Abstract: Systems and methods of modeling the structure and behavior of the quantum continuum based on geometrical principles are provided. In some embodiments, systems and methods of modeling quantum structure and behavior may include modeling a region of space as a three-dimensional projection of a field of N-dimensional hard-spheres, modeling a stable particle within the region of space as a locally stably packed set of hard-spheres, defining an energy subspace comprising one or more additional dimensions, and modeling an energy of the stable particle as an amount of hard-sphere geometry shifted out of the three spatial dimensions into the energy subspace sufficient for the set of hard-spheres to pack stably. Systems and methods for modeling virtual particles and performing quantum communication are also described.
