Abstract: A wireless communications relay includes a first radio and a second radio operating over adjacent channels. A baseband signal to be transmitted (the “transmit signal”) from the first radio is split along two paths. A first path is delayed by a delay element and the second path is provided as input to a channel model configured to implement a transfer function approximating an echo channel of the local RF environment. The channel model outputs a baseband approximation of echo channel effects of the transmit signal, after which an RF chain modulates the echo channel approximation to the RF domain. This RF echo channel approximation is thereafter filtered by an RF band pass filter turned to an operating channel of the second radio. The filtered signal is thereafter combined with received signal to compensate for self-interference.
Abstract: A system for targeting and damaging a growing plant includes an aircraft, a laser, and a controller. The laser and controller are mounted to the aircraft, which can position the laser and controller airborne at least 350 meters away from the growing plant to be damaged. The laser can generate a beam of energy sufficient to critically damage the plant when the plant is exposed to the beam and located at least 350 meters away. The controller can determine whether a target of the laser is a plant to be damaged. In response to this determination, the controller can also: a) prevent the laser's beam of energy from reaching the target, if the target is not a plant to be damaged, and b) cause the laser's beam of energy to reach the target, if the target is a plant to be damaged.
Abstract: An axial flux electric motor includes a stator including a stator segment having a support frame formed with an opening defined by a continuous edge. A stator winding segment is arranged in the opening of the stator segment. The stator winding segment has an outer surface. A thermal interface material (TIM) is disposed between the outer surface of the stator winding segment and the continuous edge defining the opening in the support frame.
Abstract: The disclosure herein describes converting a disk cluster to a different format. A format conversion instruction associated with a disk cluster is received. A first subgroup of disks of the disk cluster that are the emptiest disks of the disk cluster are identified and all data is evacuated from the first subgroup of disks to other disks of the disk cluster. The first subgroup of disks is reformatted based on the received format conversion instruction. A group of data objects stored in the disk cluster is converted based on the format conversion instruction and the converted group of data objects are written to the reformatted first subgroup of disks. The process iterates through the disks of the disk cluster to reformat all disks and convert all data objects based on the received format conversion instruction. The process reduces the write operations required to convert the format of the disk cluster.

Abstract: One or more embodiments provide techniques that permit virtual computing instances in isolated environments to communicate information outside the isolated environments without requiring networking. In one embodiment, an encoder which runs in a virtual machine (VM) within an isolated environment, such as one of the VMs of a packaged virtual machine application that does not have external network connectivity, is configured to encode information, such as state information of the packaged virtual machine application, in portion(s) of a network address. The encoder further configures an unconnected network interface of the same VM, or another VM in the isolated environment, with the network address that includes the encoded information. A decoder, which could not otherwise communicate with the virtual computing instance via any network, may then retrieve the network address assigned to the unconnected network interface and decode that network address to obtain the information encoded therein.

Abstract: For some embodiments of the present disclosure, systems and methods for using computer vision to guide processing of receive responses of RADAR sensors of a vehicle are described. A computer implemented method comprises receiving, with one or more receivers of RADAR sensors, environment receive RF responses, receiving region of interest (ROI) information including segments of a tentative set of ROIs with free space area boundaries from an image processor of an image processing chain for the computer vision, dynamically determining a number of polyphase filters based on a number of ROIs having dynamic scenes that are provided by the image processing chain, and adjusting parameters of the polyphase filters of a RADAR processing chain based on the ROI information.
Abstract: Building techniques and structures to fabricate components of expanded polystyrene (EPS) for assembly into a building include structures and ways to make keys to provide shear strength between components, structures and ways to minimize infiltration paths between walls and floors and walls and roof while reducing labor, material wastage and logistics complications. By way of example, components are strategically cut from a block of EPS using a hot wire moving through the block to cut components to a desired and novel configuration.

Abstract: An illuminator for illuminating a display panel includes a lightguide with an array of buried slanted bulk reflectors that out-couple portions of the light beam propagating in the lightguide through one of the lightguide surfaces. Polarization beam-splitting slanted surfaces may be used to provide polarized output. Such an illuminator may be used with a reflective display panel operating by polarization. The beam-splitting slanted surfaces operate as a polarizer, providing polarized illuminating light. Abstract: Methods and systems for separating a first metal from a metal-containing feed stream are provided. The method can include applying solar energy, for example, by focusing one or more mirrors in one or more heliostats, to heat a metal-containing feed stream in a heating zone to a first temperature to produce a first vapor including the first metal. The first vapor can be condensed in a condensation zone to produce a first liquid including the first metal, and the first liquid can be collected. Abstract: A molded plastic clip for attachment to the edge of a container sleeve to form part of a passive lock operable between the sleeve and a base structure such as a molded plastic pallet having a peripheral groove for receiving the edge of the panel. The clip comprises a molded plastic body having two generally planar panels joined at one end by a double hinge that allows the panels to be folded into a parallel condition spaced apart by the geometry of the double hinge wherein the inner surfaces of the panels are provided with integral male and female snap lock features and an outer panel is provided with an integral protruding tab feature near the double hinge to fit into a locking slot or opening in the structure groove. Abstract: An encoder (e.g., a Versatile Video Coding (VVC) encoder, etc.) may make real-time encoding decisions to vary a bitrate of a content item (e.g., high-resolution video, streaming content, a movie, a show/program, etc.) by upsampling and/or downsampling portions (e.g., frames/slices, group of pictures (GOP), coding units (CU), coding tree units (CTU), etc.) based on a cost function that utilizes a versatile Lagrangian multiplier (denoted as ?v to denote the versatility). The versatile Lagrangian multiplier may not only account for the effects of quantization (e.g., a quantization parameter (QP), etc.) on portions of the content item, instead, the versatile Lagrangian multiplier may also be based on adjustment parameters associated with content resolution and/or playback quality of experience (QoE).

Abstract: Various embodiments include an actuated projectile launcher, including: a base structure; a projectile support, and a holding area from which a projectile launches; propulsion wheels selectively driven to rotate; and support arms, each supporting at a first end thereof a separate one of the propulsion wheels and being supported at an opposed second end thereof by the base structure. The support arms are configured to move the propulsion wheels between an expanded position and a contracted position, in which the propulsion wheels are closer to one another in the contracted position as compared to the expanded position.
