Abstract: A system includes: at least one processor; a movable stage, wherein the movable stage is movable under control of the at least one processor with respect to an eye of a subject; a video display device configured to move with the movable stage; and an optical system disposed in an optical path between the video display device and the eye. The video display device is configured to play a movie of a fixation target to the eye to cause the eye to accommodate, and the movie dynamically changes an appearance of the fixation target on the video display device to compensate for Bokeh of the fixation target as the movable stage moves the video display device from a first position, where the fixation target draws a focus of the eye to near its far point, to a second position further away from the eye than the first position.

Abstract: Docking platforms formed in one of the largest-surface-area surfaces of mobile electronic devices. Such a docking platform may comprise a docking accessory cavity having a docking connection system comprising one or more docking connectors formed within the cavity, and optionally two or more electrical contacts within the cavity, the contacts electrically connected to electronics within the electronic device and constructed and arranged to allow electrical connection to detachable docking accessories. The docking connection system is operable to form detachable attachments to multiple independent docking accessories simultaneously. The cavities of the docking platforms are shaped to accommodate a broad range of docking accessories that are specially adapted to sit in a generally flush manner with the back surface of the mobile electronic device while attached to the docking connectors. One type of accessory forms an assembly with an expandable accordion attached to the docking platform.

An axle or other mounting element(s) define an axis of rotation of the housing. Preferably, the axle or other mounting element(s) do not pass completely through the housing. A motor drives the housing through a transmission. Preferably, the motor is a standard, compact motor that is positioned on the axis of rotation and can be laterally offset from a central plane of the housing. In some embodiments, a traction element is carried directly by the housing.

The ozone generator, the negative ion generator, and the ultraviolet radiation source are all disposed at the middle portion. The air sanitizing apparatus is disposed in an interior of a vehicle below but adjacent to a ceiling.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses for determining viewership of a content item are described herein. Machine learning techniques may be used to determine which user(s) among a user group at a multi-user location is consuming a content item. A machine learning model may be trained using demographic attributes and content attributes associated with a plurality of single-user locations. A probability engine may train a machine learning model using the demographic attributes and content attributes and one or more machine learning algorithms. The trained machine learning model may be used to determine which user(s) among at least two users is consuming a content item at a multi-user location at which multiple people reside.

Abstract: A change in the emotional state of a user of a device is detected, and in response to this change a reason for the change in user emotional state is determined. This determination is made based on both the current user emotional state and context data for the device or user. The device then adapts to the user based on the current emotional state and the reason for the change in user emotional state. This adaptation of the computing device refers to an alteration of the operation of the computing device with a goal of increasing the likelihood of the user being in a good emotional state (e.g., happy, relaxed) and reducing the likelihood of the user being in a bad emotional state (e.g., sad, angry).

Abstract: Some embodiments of the invention provide a novel network architecture for providing edge services of a virtual private cloud (VPC) at host computers hosting machines of the VPC. The host computers in the novel network architecture are reachable from external networks through a gateway router of an availability zone (AZ). The gateway router receives a data message from the external network addressed to one or more data compute nodes (DCNs) in the VPC and forwards the data message to a particular host computer identified as providing a distributed edge service for the VPC. The particular host computer, upon receiving the forwarded data message, performs the distributed edge service and provides the serviced data message to a destination DCN.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides derivatives of amino acids that have branched alkyl structures and surface-active properties. The amino acid can be naturally-occurring or synthetic, or they may be obtained via a ring-opening reaction of a lactam, such as caprolactam. The amino acid may be functionalized to form a compound that is surface-active and have advantageous surfactant characteristics. The compounds of the present disclosure have low critical micelle concentrations (CMC) as well as superior ability to lower the surface tension of a liquid.

Abstract: A ponded ash beneficiation system and related methods treat either landfilled or ponded waste coal fly ash by removing at least 75% of the carbon from a collected quantity of such waste coal fly ash. Analysis and testing of the collected waste coal fly ash to determine optimal air balance, indirect heat temperature and retention time. Subjecting a stream of such waste coal fly ash to temperatures ranging from 900° F. and 1150° F. along with air addition calibrated as a function of the LOI of the carbon in such waste coal fly ash. This stream is exposed to the foregoing range of temperatures and corresponding air addition for a range of time between 20 minutes and 90 minutes, in certain aspects of the disclosure. A system for beneficiating landfilled or ponded waste coal fly ash makes use of a carbon reduction kiln comprising multiple independent heat zones so that the waste coal fly ash is preferably exposed to indirect heat when received in such zones.

Abstract: A data storage system can employ a read destructive memory configured to fill a first cache with a first data set from a data repository prior to populating a second cache with a second data set describing the first data set with the first and second cache each having non-volatile ferroelectric memory cells. An entirety of the first cache may be read in response to a cache hit in the second cache with the cache hit responsive to a data read command from a host and with the first cache being read without a refresh operation restoring the data of the first cache.

Abstract: Decentralized computer systems and methods are disclosed for hyperledger-based payment transactions, alerts, and dispute settlement, using smart contracts. One method includes: receiving transaction information comprising transaction data of transaction attributes for a transaction for a good or service originating at a merchant; storing the transaction data of the transaction attributes for the transaction, in a smart contract generated or updated by a smart contract application; deploying the Smart contract into one or more blockchain networks, wherein at least one of the one or more blockchain networks; performing one or more iterations of enabling, using an inter ledger protocol, to transfer at least some of the transaction data of the transaction attributes of the transaction to another of the one or more blockchain networks, wherein each of the one or more blockchain networks serves one or more business functions of the transaction.

Abstract: A method and system for adding overtly human-perceptible supplemental audio content into a media stream to help mask audio effects of an audio watermark in the media stream. A method involves receiving a media stream that defines a sequence of audio content presentable by a content presentation device, modifying the media stream to produce a modified media stream that defines the sequence of audio content, and outputting the modified media stream for presentation by the content presentation device. The modified media stream includes an audio watermark that is machine-detectable to trigger an interactive event. Further, the act of modifying the media stream involves adding into the media stream supplemental audio content coincident with the audio watermark, to help mask the audio watermark in the modified media stream during presentation of the modified media stream by the content presentation device.
