Abstract: Some variations provide a method of making an additively manufactured single-crystal metallic component, comprising: providing a feedstock comprising a first metal or metal alloy; providing a build plate comprising a single crystal of a second metal or metal alloy; exposing the feedstock to an energy source for melting the feedstock, generating a melt layer on the build plate; and solidifying the melt layer, generating a solid layer (on the build plate) of a metal component. The solid layer is also a single crystal of the first metal or metal alloy. The method may be repeated many times to build the part. Some variations provide a single-crystal metallic component comprising a plurality of solid layers in an additive-manufacturing build direction, wherein the plurality of solid layers forms a single crystal of a metal or metal alloy with a continuous crystallographic texture. The crystal orientation may vary along the additive-manufacturing build direction.

Abstract: A power factor correction circuit configured to increase the amount of useful power in an AC electrical system. The power factor correction circuit optionally includes one or more capacitors and one or more resistors configured to realign a phase angle between a voltage and current of an AC power source. Examples are offered illustrating the disclosed circuit in use with a single phase or multi-phase AC power source ranging in voltage from 100 volts or less to 500 volts or more.

Abstract: A set-top box with enhanced features and system and method for use of the same are disclosed. In one embodiment of the set-top box, the set-top box is deployed to provide an interactive portal in a hospitality establishment having multiple rooms, such as a hotel. The set-top box generates a default interactive portal as well as a guest-specific interactive portal, which is generated from a guest configuration profile having information including guest identification, a guest channel preference presentation, and a guest service preference presentation with guest account information. The guest configuration profile may also enable the creation of a local area wireless network with substantially the same behavior as the guest's home wireless network. The guest configuration profile may further enable the control of in-room amenities, such as temperature control, lighting, shades, and availability, for example.

An analyzing model for the content item which characterizes statistics of the measurements associated with the content item is further constructed. A measurement threshold to be used to determine a cost of placing the content item on a target property is further determined using the constructed analyzing model.

Abstract: The execution-time reporting of telemetry of execution of a software program. Subscribers submit subscriptions to telemetry of the software program. As each subscription is received, the telemetry scope of the subscription is evaluated to determine what portion of an object model is to be augmented. The augmented portion will include portion(s) related to the scope of telemetry subscribed to in the subscription. Thereafter, that portion of the object model is indeed augmented as execution of the computer program proceeds further. Subsequently, telemetry reports are generated for a subscription based on the interpretation of a defined subscription-specific portion of the object model.

Abstract: A distributed computing system is provided, including a source computing device implementing a source hypervisor executing a virtual machine, a source-side router coupled to the source hypervisor, a destination computing device implementing a destination hypervisor, and a destination-side router coupled to the destination hypervisor. The source hypervisor is connected to the destination hypervisor through a network. During a migration of the virtual machine from the source hypervisor to the destination hypervisor, the source-side router duplicates packets ingressing into the source-side router. The duplicated packets include a first set of packets and a second set of packets, where the first set of packets is routed to the virtual machine through the source hypervisor on the network, and the second set of packets is routed to the virtual machine through the destination hypervisor on the network.
