  • Patent number: 12294693
Abstract: A method of video processing in a decoder includes determining, by a processor, an initial block vector for predicting a current block in a current coding tree unit (CTU) in response to the current block being predicted in an intra block copy (IBC) mode. The initial block vector is determined based on a merge index included in a coded video bitstream. The method further includes performing, by the processor, template matching based on the initial block vector indicated by the merge index in the video bitstream to determine a refined block vector that points to a reference block in a picture as the current block, and reconstructing, by the processor, the current block based on the reference block.

  • Patent number: 12291236
Abstract: The technology relates to detection of a nearby occluded object based on illumination emitted from that object. Illumination by the occluded object of one or more areas in the surrounding area, for instance by headlights of an occluded vehicle, is detected by a perception system of a self-driving vehicle. The self-driving vehicle can classify the detected object to determine whether the illumination is caused by a vehicle or other road user, or from objects in the surrounding environment. Illumination data and other information can be evaluated by the self-driving vehicle, for instance to identify a type of the object, a location of the object along a roadway, to disambiguate the direction of travel of the other object, etc. As a result, the self-driving vehicle may infer the behavior of the other object and modify its own driving operations to account for the other object's presence and likely behavior.

  • Patent number: 12294520
Abstract: A method for managing data transmissions includes: receiving data transmission requests; and determining which requests to accept such that a constraint of a network communication pathway is not exceeded, by: selecting a set of requests based on value densities, determining a first non-selected request that doesn't exceed a residual amount, determining whether a second non-selected request exists for which: (1) its value density is greater than a combined value density of the first non-selected request and a request of the selected requests that has a lowest value density, and (2) its demand is the largest among non-selected requests meeting requirement (1) that is no larger than a sum of the residual amount and a demand of a lowest value density selected request, and if it exists, replacing the lowest value density selected request with the second non-selected request and, if not, include the first non-selected request as a selected request.

  • Patent number: 12293450
Abstract: A 3D conversation system can facilitate 3D conversations in an augmented reality environment, allowing conversation participants to appear as if they are face-to-face. The 3D conversation system can accomplish this with a pipeline of data processing stages, which can include calibrate, capture, tag and filter, compress, decompress, reconstruct, render, and display stages. Generally, the pipeline can capture images of the sending user, create intermediate representations, transform the representations to convert from the orientation the images were taken from to a viewpoint of the receiving user, and output images of the sending user, from the viewpoint of the receiving user, in synchronization with audio captured from the sending user. Such a 3D conversation can take place between two or more sender/receiving systems and, in some implementations can be mediated by one or more server systems. In various configurations, stages of the pipeline can be customized based on a conversation context.

  • Patent number: 12291392
Abstract: An expansion devise includes an unexpended slit sheet roll that is wound on a paper core that is wider than the slit sheet paper. The paper core is placed into a yoke that holds the paper in position on each side of the unexpended slit sheet material. An adjustable downward pressure is exerted on the paper core and the paper core exerts pressure on the yoke. As the paper is pulled, this downward pressure creates the friction required to enable the unexpended slit sheet to be unwind and fed while simultaneously expanding. A blank sheet is formed into a box that stabilizes slit paper sheet wound around a core member.
