  • Patent number: 11674191
Abstract: Sensors measure magnetic field components, and the measured fields are used to calculate and estimated transverse position of a longitudinal electric current flowing as an electric discharge across a discharge gap. Based on the estimated position, and according to a selected transverse trajectory or distribution of the estimated discharge position, magnetic fields are applied transversely across the discharge gap so as to control or alter the estimated discharge position. Inventive apparatus and methods can be employed, inter alia, during operation of a vacuum arc furnace.

  • Patent number: 11676451
Abstract: Table-based gaming actions are disclosed where additional prizes or other gains can be awarded when a community event occurs at a given table and the event had been wagered upon by side bets placed at that table. One of the possible awards is that for a shared multi-table progressive jackpot prize that receives contributions from side bets placed at different kinds of gaming tables including ones that have community events of different probabilities of occurrence and/or ones that have different numbers of operational betting positions. Methods are disclosed for equalizing the chance at each betting position for winning the multi-table progressive jackpot prize despite the differences in probability of occurrence of the respective community event and/or different numbers of operational betting positions at the respective tables.

  • Patent number: 11676462
Abstract: An RFID portal of an EAS system first interrogates a first zone extending into a controlled area beyond a threshold distance from an interrogating antenna of the portal. The portal defines an exit from the controlled area, the threshold distance being less than a width of the exit. The portal first detects, in response to the first interrogating, a first response of a particular RFID tag. The portal second interrogate, subsequent to the first detecting, in a second zone extending into the controlled area at least to the threshold distance. The portal second detects, in response to the second interrogating, at least one second response of the particular RFID tag indicating a received signal strength of the second interrogating at the particular RFID tag corresponding to a distance from an interrogating antenna of the portal less than the threshold distance. The EAS system alarms in response to the second detecting.

  • Patent number: 11676119
Abstract: An automated method is provided for enabling and implementing a beacon-based service location application in a user device having a beacon monitoring application. A service location facilitation server establishes service need criteria for a user of the user device and estimates a service need state for the user. The service need state includes information indicative of a relative need for a desired service. The service location facilitation server then determines whether the service need state meets the service need criteria, and, if so, transmits an instruction to the user device to transition the beacon monitoring application from an inactive state to an active monitoring state.

  • Patent number: 11673015
Abstract: A running device and method of using the device are disclosed. The device may include a moveable material within an inner chamber of the running device's housing. In operation, a running device may be held in each hand and the runner may thrust both hands downward prior to landing and quickly bring the devices to a vertical stop after landing. Bringing the devices to a vertical stop may cause the moveable material to collide with the housing and increase the force exerted by the runner on the ground. A delay component may delay the peak force exerted by the material against the housing so that the translation of that force to the ground coincides with the peak force that the runner would have exerted against the ground in the absence of the devices.

  • Patent number: 11675938
Abstract: A system, method and a computing architecture, for well path planning that can be used in directional drilling and provides for optimal path planning in directional drilling operations. One method includes receiving information about the planned drilling path, target-zone location and planned path changes, and real-time drill-bit location measurements. The method estimates the current state of the geometric location of the drill-bit in the earth during directional drilling operations, and the characteristics of the bottom-hole assembly before and after receiving drill bit location measurements. Such a method preferably determines a time optimal path, such as a Dubins path between the current state of the drill-bit location and the user-provided target-zone.
