Abstract: A prepolymer comprising acid functionality is made by a process comprising the step of contacting: (i) a di-isocyanate, (ii) a polyol containing an acid group, (iii) a polyol without an acid group, and (iv) a metal salt catalyst, the contacting conducted under reaction conditions and in a solvent consisting essentially of: (A) a dialkyl amide, and (B) optionally, an aprotic glycol ether. The prepolymer is useful in the preparation of water-based polyurethane dispersions, and certain of the solvent blends consisting essentially of a dialkyl amide and an optional aprotic glycol ether are azeotropic or pseudo-azeotropic.

Abstract: Multi-position valve actuators principally for water-circulation systems of pools and spas are detailed. At least some actuators may indicate position of an associated valve in a non-electronic manner, as by using a handle visible externally of the actuator and directly or indirectly mechanically coupled to the valve so as to move therewith. Hence, even if power to an actuator is disrupted, positioning of the valve may be determined by viewing the handle.
Abstract: A vibration-reducing component and an apparatus for its use. The vibration-reducing component combines an elastic member with a compression element to both resist applied forces and absorb selected vibrations. The vibration reducing component finds particular utility in tools that inherently create vibrations.
Abstract: The described technology is generally directed towards automatically scaling distributed computing resources of a distributed computing system based on a system load measurement and a trend factor indicative of whether the system load is increasing or decreasing. If a computing resource load value is above a resource addition threshold value and the trend factor indicates that the computing resource load is increasing, a corresponding computing resource is added to the distributed computing system. If a computing resource load value is below a resource removal threshold value and the trend factor indicates that the computing resource load is decreasing, a corresponding computing resource is removed from the distributed computing system. The trend factor can be obtained using a moving average convergence divergence (MACD) direction indicator.
Abstract: A wind tunnel device may include a waste disposal unit configured to collect fluid from a droplet extractor positioned in a wind tunnel. The waste disposal unit may include a drain line and a liquid trap integrated in the drain line. The liquid trap may be adjustable during operation of the wind tunnel to accommodate different tunnel operating conditions (e.g., wind speeds) such that liquid waste does not backflow into the wind tunnel.
Abstract: Example user identification systems and methods are described. In one implementation, a method determines a first step pulse associated with a user carrying a key fob and detects a user device proximate the key fob. The method further identifies a second step pulse measured by the user device and determines whether the first and second step pulses match. If the step pulses match, the user carrying the key fob is identified as the owner of the user device.

Abstract: Techniques, systems, and devices are disclosed for obtaining optical images of a targeted object or scene such as a person's organ or tissue based on a fiber bundle having imaging optical fibers and optical phase modulation for improved imaging quality without using an objective lens to receive light from a target. Among its applications is an endoscope that bears no lens at the distal end, which affords miniaturization and bendability, and that has adjustable focal distance.
Abstract: According to one or more embodiments, a lithium-ion battery includes an anode including titanium niobium oxide (TNO) particles and solid electrolyte particles configured to form an interphase layer therebetween, a cathode including an active material, electronic conductor, and a non-solid electrolyte; and an ionically conductive and liquid-impermeable solid electrolyte separator. The solid electrolyte separator is in direct contact with and between the anode and cathode, and is configured to prevent reduction of the non-solid electrolyte by isolating the non-solid electrolyte from the TNO particles.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for physical therapy includes a base structure, a roller table positioned on the base structure including a plurality of free motion rollers, at least one motor and/or and at least one air compressor connected to the base structure, a plurality of powered rollers or a contact plate located within the base structure being in contact with the plurality of free motion rollers, at least one pneumatic block with a pneumatic piston connected to the at least one air compressor and being configured to raise and lower the power rollers and/or the contact plate, a load cell in communication with the apparatus being configured to measure and record a patient's response to the transition of the roller table and/or the contact plate, and a programmable logic controller.
Abstract: In one embodiment, a system monitors states of an autonomous driving vehicle (ADV) using a number of sensors mounted on the ADV. The system perceives a driving environment surrounding the ADV using at least a portion of the sensors. The system analyzes the states in view of the driving environment to determine a real-time traffic condition at a point in time. The system determines whether the real-time traffic condition of the driving environment matches at least a predetermined traffic condition. The system transmits data concerning the real-time traffic condition to a remote server over a network to allow the remote server to generate an updated map having real-time traffic information, in response to determining the real-time traffic condition is unknown. In response to receiving the updated map, the system plans and controls the ADV based on the updated map.
Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure provide methods and apparatuses for video encoding/decoding. In some examples, an apparatus for video decoding includes receiving circuitry and processing circuitry. For example, the processing circuitry decodes prediction information of a current block in a current picture from a coded video bitstream. The prediction information is indicative of a prediction mode that uses a first optical flow refinement coding tool. The first optical flow refinement coding tool uses a grid structure that is used additionally by at least a second optical flow refinement coding tool during operations of optical flow refinement. Then, the processing circuitry calculates, using the first optical flow refinement coding tool, refinements to predictions of samples of the current block based on the grid structure, and reconstructs the samples of the current block based on the refinements and the predictions of the samples.
