Abstract: A knitted shoe upper includes a unitary one-piece knitted element with an integrated tongue. The upper also includes a lacing system including a medial side eyestay and a lateral side eyestay. The medial side eyestay includes a plurality of medial side eyelets, and the lateral side eyestay includes a plurality of lateral side eyelets. The medial and lateral eyestays are configured such that a single shoelace can be placed through each of the plurality of lateral and medial side eyelets without extending through the knitted element.

Abstract: A water drain management apparatus used in clinical facility (43) or other facility includes a manifold plumbing fitting (32, 272, 384). The fitting includes a plurality of drain outlet connections for water discharge devices (40, 42, 222, 226, 230, 234). Such water discharge devices may include devices such as autoclaves, sterilizers, cleaners, washers, filters, humidifiers, condensing devices and other devices used in the facility. A plurality of drain fitting openings in the body of the fitting are connectable to respective water discharge devices, and openings that are not utilized are closable with plugs. Some manifold fittings (272, 344, 384, 482) include an air gap opening (288, 360, 392, 530). These configurations provide an air gap that prevents contamination due to back flow of water within the fitting reaching water discharge devices or the body inlet of the manifold fitting.

Abstract: A method for improving visibility of contents displayed on a GUI by providing a dark viewing mode that preserves user-generated formatting and/or style contained in the contents is disclosed. The method includes receiving content for displaying on the display, parsing the received content into one or more objects, based on at least a formatting characteristic of the objects, and comparing for each object a first color characteristic of the object with a second color characteristic to determine if a contrast between the first color characteristic and the second color characteristic satisfies a threshold requirement. Upon determining that the threshold requirement is not satisfied, the method includes adjusting the first characteristic, and displaying the objects with the adjusted first characteristic.

Abstract: A disclosed submersible pump apparatus includes a three-dimensional frame, a pump housing, a drive shaft, an impeller, and first and second motors. The impeller is mounted on the driveshaft within the pump housing and is driven by one or both of the motors. The first motor is connected to a first end of the drive shaft and the second motor connected a second end of the drive shaft. The first and second motors are hydraulic motors and in a first configuration, the first and second motors are configured to cooperatively rotate the drive shaft with hydraulic fluid supplied to and removed from the first and second motors using a parallel fluidic connection. In a second configuration, only one of the motors has a drive gear and drives the drive shaft while the second motor does not have a drive gear and acts as a frictionless bearing supporting the drive shaft.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a flexible pouch. In an embodiment, the flexible pouch includes opposing flexible films. The flexible films define a common peripheral edge. A microcapillary strip is sealed between the opposing flexible films. A first side of the microcapillary strip is located at a first side of the common peripheral edge and a second side of the microcapillary strip located at a second side of the common peripheral edge. A peripheral seal extends along at least a portion of the common peripheral edge. The peripheral seal comprises a sealed microcapillary segment. The peripheral seal forms a closed flexible pouch having a storage compartment. A liquid is present in the storage compartment.

Abstract: A holster system for receiving and releasably retaining a handgun with or without a reflex sight mounted thereon. The holster body comprises a pair of opposing side wall portions and an upper wall portion. The holster body may define a rear accessory sight opening for receiving the handgun with the reflex sight attached thereto. The holster system may include a first rear sight cover selectively and robustly coupleable to the holster body so as to cover the rear accessory sight opening when a handgun with conventional sights extending upwardly about ? of an inch or less mounted thereto is used in conjunction with the holster system. The holster system may also include a second rear sight cover selectively coupleable to the holster body so as to cover the sight opening when a handgun with a reflex sight mounted thereto is used in conjunction with the holster system.

Abstract: A hand held tool (10, 60, 70) for use by an optician in bending the temples (120) of a pair of eyeglasses includes an elongated handle portion (12, 62, 72) capable of being held in the palm of the optician's hand. A mandrel including a convexly formed anvil (14, 64, 74) with a nonslip upper surface (67, 77a) extends from a first end of the handle portion. A concavely formed thumb recess (16, 66, 76) is located adjacent the first end of the handle portion and is located opposite the anvil (14, 64, 74). The optician's thumb (100) fits within the recess when the handle portion is being held. The free end (110) of an eyeglass temple is placed over the mandrel (14, 64, 74) and is bent over the mandrel by the optician.

Abstract: A system for initiating and authorizing a transaction including one or more memory devices storing instructions and one or more processors configured to execute the instructions to associate a detectable device with at least one financial account. The one or more processors may be further configured to receive a notification indicating that the detectable device is involved in a potential transaction initiated by a sensor device detecting the detectable device in an initiating action. The one or more processors may be further configured to receive transaction information associated with the potential transaction. The one or more processors may be further configured to identify a customer profile associated with the detectable device, and determine whether the potential transaction is authorized by a customer based on the transaction information and at least one profile customization parameter associated with the customer profile.

Abstract: Methods and systems for more efficient analyses of and response to voice commands and queries are provided. The system may be configured to receive one or more of audio files corresponding to a voice query and determine, for each of the audio files, whether the audio file is a first type of audio file capable of being processed based on a characteristic of the audio file or a second type of audio file that cannot, and may require further processing in order to recognize the voice query associated with the audio file. The system may process each of the first type of audio files and respond to the associated voice queries. The system may also determine a priority for each of the second type of audio files for further processing of the second type of audio files.

Abstract: A method, computer program product, and computer system for receiving, by a computing device, an I/O request. It may be identified whether the I/O request is eligible for handling via a first path without also requiring handling via a second path. If the I/O request is eligible, the I/O request may be processed via the first path on a host I/O stack without processing the I/O request via the second path on a storage array I/O stack. If the I/O request is ineligible, the I/O request may be processed via the first path on the host I/O stack and via the second path on the storage array I/O stack.

Abstract: Files can be segmented into distinct groups and allocated storage units such as blocks. Files associated with parent and child files can be segmented into separate groups, for instance. Further, a group associated with parent files can be extended to include additional blocks reserved for subsequent update. Additionally, metadata can be merged across groups to provide a unified view of the distinct groups.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides an adduct comprising the reaction product of a residual epoxy oligomer product and a reactive compound having at least two reactive hydrogens where the residual epoxy oligomer product was obtained from a process for producing an aromatic epoxy resin. The adduct may be used in a variety of ways, such as a curing agent in a curable system containing a curable resin.

Abstract: A safety chain system that includes a drawbar hanger. The drawbar hanger includes a drawbar frame that defines a first aperture. A drawbar rests within the first aperture. A safety chain anchor also rests within the first aperture. The safety chain anchor defines a second aperture. The second aperture receives a safety chain. The safety chain anchor is able to slide in and out of the first aperture.

Abstract: A liquid dispensing system comprises a container enclosing a chamber. A flexible bag in the chamber contains a first liquid. First and second conduits are contained in the chamber. The first conduit connects the chamber to an outlet port in the container where the second conduit connects the bag to the first conduit. A supply source introduces a pressurized second liquid into the chamber. The first conduit serves to direct an existing flow of the second liquid from the chamber to the outlet port, with the pressurized second liquid serving to collapse the bag and expel the first liquid contained therein via the second conduit to the first conduit for mixture with the exiting flow of the second liquid. The second conduit lacks flow restrictions, such as metering orifices or the like.

Abstract: A method for improving the effective signal-to-noise ratio (“SNR”) of an analog to digital converter (“ADC”) for active loudspeakers uses the two available channels of a stereo ADC to separately process the low- and high-frequency components of an audio signal. Because the power spectral density of music approximates a pink noise spectrum, the high-frequency component of the signal has peak levels low enough to avoid exceeding the maximum ADC input level. The audio signal is analog high-pass filtered and the resulting high-frequency signal component is sent directly to a first ADC channel without attenuation. The remaining low-frequency component is attenuated and sent to a second ADC channel. The digital signals are processed, converted back to analog, amplified, and reproduced by loudspeaker drivers. Noise and distortion at low frequencies is less audible than higher frequencies, so the improved SNR at higher frequencies yields a significant practical improvement in audio fidelity.

Abstract: Disclosed is a composition that synergistically prevents proteolysis or modification of peptides in sampled biological fluids using sulfonyl fluoride family protease inhibitors at high concentrations combined with at least one additional protease inhibitor of a different type, preferably a broad spectrum protease inhibitor, and a chelator. A preferred embodiment uses AEBSF at 10 mM, Benzamidine at 20 mM and EDTA as the chelator. The disclosed composition may be combined with other protease inhibitors to further modulate its specificity, for instance to additionally target acidic proteases. Additional protease inhibitors, reducing agents, stabilizers and buffering agents may be combined with the disclosed compositions in devices for sampling or testing biological fluids for levels of peptides of interest, or methods therefore. The disclosed devices, compositions and methods are of particular use in sampling and testing for the level of natriuretic peptides.

Abstract: An apparatus and method to remove a keel strip that is centrally attached to a poultry butterfly. The butterfly has first and second poultry breasts on opposite sides of the keel strip. An elongated, longitudinally-oriented spine defines a butterfly travel path and is disposed above a longitudinally-driven conveyor. A scoring blade is disposed above, and spaced a predetermined distance from, the spine. First and second severing blades are disposed along the butterfly travel path downstream of the scoring blade with the first and second severing blades disposed on opposing first and second lateral sides of the spine. A second longitudinally-driven conveyor is disposed above the spine and ex tends from a first position downstream of the scoring blade to at least a second position between the first and second severing blades.

Abstract: A system includes a database client, and a distributed database comprising database nodes. The distributed database may receive a database query from the client, determine that the query comprises a range of hash values of a table partition stored by a node of the distributed database, and determine that the range of hash values is not stored by other nodes of the distributed database. Responsive to determining that the range of hash values of the query is stored by the node and not by the other nodes, the database may generate an optimized distributed execution plan that includes the node that stores the range of hash values and excludes the nodes that do not include the range of hash values.

Abstract: A volatile memory device is configured to self-document by identifying its own bad or at-risk excludable memory locations in a nonvolatile identification embedded in itself, without using additional board real estate. The identification of bad or at-risk memory is readable by firmware outside the device. The device includes volatile memory cells that have respective failure susceptibility values, some of which indicate bad or at-risk memory cells. The memory device also includes read logic and write logic, and may include refresh logic. The identification may be embedded in the device by blowing fuses in an adaptation of self-repair activity, or by writing identification data into a serial presence detect logic, for example. The configured memory device may efficiently, persistently, and reliably provide detailed memory test results regarding itself, thereby allowing customers to accept and safely use memory that would otherwise have been discarded to prevent software crashes.
