Abstract: The present invention is a methodology for controlled switchover of unicast and multicast data flows in packet based switching system. In some cases it is advantageous to purposefully support switchover of flows from one path to the other without causing loss of data. This is termed a “controlled” or “hitless” switchover. In accordance with the present invention switchover methodology, given that an ingress arbiter device is transmitting to both cores simultaneously, it is required that the flows to both switching cores be synchronized at an aggregator level and that an egress arbiter be given time to cease receiving packets from one Core then switch over to the other Core, and continue receiving packets.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method of setting up a call between a central module (33) and a remote module (37) of the type comprising at least one first transmission channel and one second transmission channel according to distinct primary and secondary bit rates respectively. According to the invention, the method comprises the steps setting up a call by default on the first channel; listening and searching for a signal indicating a secondary bit-rate requirement, assuming a detection of the signal indicating a secondary bit-rate requirement, a phase for the switching of a bit rate from the first primary bit-rate transmission channel to the secondary bit-rate transmission channel, associated with a step for the masking, during a predetermined masking period, of an acknowledgement signal sent during the default setting-up phase. Abstract: A “Wireless INfrastructure Network”(WINN) comprises packet endpoints such as servers, routers, base stations and gateways. No mobile switching center (MSC) is required. Communications between these endpoints is Internet Protocol (IP) based and voice communications between base station endpoints occurs directly without use of an MSC. Each base station comprises a router and converts wireless air interface signaling to a common IP signaling format.
Abstract: In accordance with one embodiment of the invention, a central server system computes a feasible stretch value for use in scheduling the servicing of job requests by a plurality of communication channels. A stretch value provides an indication of the delay experienced by each job request to complete, when the central server processes many jobs concurrently. A processing time is calculated for each job request based on the size of the job request and the bandwidth of the channel. Thereafter, a stretch value is proposed. The server system computes a deadline for each job to be the arrival time of the job request plus the product of the processing time and the proposed stretch value. Thereafter, each job request is scheduled, based on an “earliest deadline first” arrangement.
Abstract: The method provides power control in transmitting a downlink signal of frame data in a wireless network. Each frame is composed of timeslots, with each timeslot being further composed of quarter symbols. The method includes mapping each quarter symbol to an offset within a frame attenuation buffer, and computing a template for the frame, each step being performed only once. The template is used for filling the attenuation buffer with attenuation values to attenuate the transmit power for the downlink signal. Attenuation values are provided for each quarter symbol in a frame, although a computation is not required for each quarter symbol. The attenuation values are grouped in blocks that are recursively copied into the frame attenuation buffer based on the template. The contents of a filled attenuation buffer are output for use in attenuating the transmit power of the frame.

Abstract: The present invention provides an organic field-effect transistor (OFET) and a method of fabricating the OFET. The OFET, configured to function as a p-type semiconductor, includes a substrate having a top surface and a semiconductor layer located over the top surface. The semiconductor layer comprises organic semiconductor molecules. Each of the organic semiconductor molecules includes a core having conjugated pi bonds, a fluorinated alkyl group, and an alkyl spacer group having a chain of two or more carbon atoms. One end of the chain is bonded to the fluorinated alkyl group and another end of the chain is bonded to the core. Substituents coupled to the carbon atoms have an electronegativity of less than about 4.
Abstract: An interleaver circuit architectures, which utilizes the relationship between intra-row elements in a matrix, in order to simplify the MOD computations necessary in an interleaver. The interleaver calculates a subset of results, stores those results, performs operations on the stored results in order to obtain new results, then updates at least some of the old results with the new results for the next column operation. The interleaver address is then calculated row by row. By storing only a subset of the results and replacing old results with new results, the interleaver can calculate the interleaver address “on the fly” in one clock cycle with very little delay. The interleaver may also require less power and smaller substrate surface area.
Abstract: A special-purpose file system is provided which includes a combination of services and features which improve the performance of applications employing caches, such as caching web proxies. This file system also provides a file system cache which can be used as a general high-performance file system cache for file systems which need a cache. The services and features include collocating files together on a disk; keeping file meta-data in memory; compressing file names to hash values for reference; using a flat naming scheme for files; providing background daemons that pack files into clusters and clean disk and main memory space; and implementing a user-level library. The file system reduces access to related disk files, eliminates disk operations that are needed to maintain directory and meta-data information, and avoids multiple buffering of file data, and saves and efficiently manages disk and main memory space.

Abstract: The dual mode handset system provides unified cellular service and wire-line service with a single Directory Number assigned to the dual mode handset and a corresponding cordless base station that are connected to the subscriber's local wire-line (POTS line) connection to the telephone network. The dual mode handset is programmed to operate as a cordless telephone when in proximity of the cordless base station. The handset operates as a cellular telephone when it is out of reach of the cordless base station. The dual mode handset is assigned the same telephone number as the subscriber's connection to a local wire-line telephone switching system. Consequently, the Caller ID information is consistent on calls originated through the dual mode handset, regardless of whether the call passes through the cordless base station to the subscriber's connection to a local wire-line telephone switching system or the cellular network.

Abstract: A simplified methodology for accomplishing traffic management in a packet based network is achieved by allowing allocation of bandwidth based on a count of the number of endpoint connections associated with a specific service for a corresponding network device. A network device (e.g., IP router) can be configured to count the number of TCP/IP and UDP/IP connections and bandwidth usage per interface. The counting can be done by identifying the IP Addresses, Type of Service (TOS), and TCP/UDP and/or UDP/IP socket number range in the IP Header of a packet and then querying a specific communication type. When reaching the maximum allowed connections or bandwidth for a specific service, the network device (e.g., IP router) stops forwarding any new calls by means of dropping packets of new calls and informing the given endpoints to disconnect the new calls.
Abstract: A multiple band antenna (and an array of such antennas) includes a first radiating element that radiates at a first band, at least one second radiating element that radiates at a second band, and a frame to hold the radiating elements. The frame disposes the first and second radiating elements in different planes so that cross-band interference is substantially avoided. Alternatively, a multiple band array antenna includes a first array of radiating elements in a first plane and a second array of radiating elements in a second plane. The first plane overlays the second plane. As a result, individual radiating elements in the first array are substantially interspersed with individual radiating elements in the second array. But the first array and the second array are arranged so that individual radiating elements in the first array substantially do not overlap individual radiating elements in the second array.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for sending a server-specified message from an application server to Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) without setting up a call path between the application server and the CPE. The application server is coupled with a switch, which is in turn coupled with the CPE. The application server sends a request to the switch. The switch sends, based upon the request, a predetermined server-specified message to the CPE without setting up a call path between the application server and the CPE. The CPE is not rung and the predetermined message is not affected by the features of the line associated with the CPE.
