  • Patent number: 6771602
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing ABR and UBR services with one FIFO queue. The queue accepts UBR data until a threshold queue capacity (EPD) is reached, at which point data is dropped. This threshold is dynamically adjusted by adding a value proportional to the difference between the actual UBR bandwidth and the target UBR bandwidth. Applications sending data for ABR service are provided with a feedback which allows those applications to regulate the speed at which data is transmitted to the queue, this feedback is a function of some threshold value (AQT) which is also dynamically adjusted as described above. If the queue is being underutilized, an adjustment is made to both EPD and AQT.

  • Patent number: 6771958
Abstract: A paging signal is detected where the paging signal is intended for a mobile-telephone having a paging channel frequency that is different than a paging channel frequency associated with a concentrator. A base station transmits a base station-to-mobile-telephone (BS-MT) paging message by including such BS-MT paging message in a base station-to-concentrator (BS-C) paging message. The BS-MT paging message includes a message portion and a mobile-telephone identifier portion, wherein the mobile-telephone identifier portion indicates the mobile-telephone to which the BS-MT paging message is intended. The BS-C paging message includes the MT paging message and a concentrator identifier portion for indicating the concentrator to which the BS-C is intended. The BS-C paging message is transmitted over a paging channel on a frequency f1 associated with the intended concentrator (i.e., concentrator through which the mobile-telephone is linked to the base station).

  • Patent number: 6772339
Abstract: A method for secure multiparty computation is disclosed. In one embodiment, participants to a secure computation agree upon a function to be computed and a representation of the function as a circuit with at least one gate. Logical tables are then generated for each gate. A logical table includes all possible input and output values for the gate based on the function. These input and output values are then encoded and the encoded tables are passed through a mix network, which generates a blinded table for each encoded logical table. A blinded table corresponds to the encoded logical table except that its rows are randomly permuted and entries are encrypted. After this initial blinding round, participants provide encryptions of their encoded secret inputs. The participants then jointly compute the function of interest using the encrypted secret inputs and the representative circuit.

  • Patent number: 6771850
Abstract: An article comprising a support portion that is coupled to an element portion, both of which portions are formed from some of the layers of a multi-layer substrate. In one embodiment, the support portion comprises a torsional member, an actuating plate and a beam, wherein the beam mechanically links the actuating plate and the element portion. At least one torsional member attaches the support portion to the multi-layer substrate and allows the element portion to move independently of the substrate, such as when actuated by an underlying electrode. When actuated, the actuating plate of the support portion is drawn toward the underlying electrode while the element portion rises from a first (unactuated) position within the substrate toward a second (actuated) position outside of the substrate, in see-saw like fashion. The present article is useful in a variety of applications, such as, for example, optical applications where it can be used to form improved chopper switches and optical cross connects.

  • Patent number: 6771963
Abstract: A procedure for triggering a handdown or a handoff a mobile station served by a base station of a cellular wireless communication system. A tolerable path loss for signal links between the base station and a mobile station located within the base station's cell, is initially determined. A control signal is radiated at a known transmit power level from the base station over its cell. A receive power level threshold is determined for the control signal for reception by the mobile station, according to the transmit power level and the tolerable path loss. A handoff of the mobile station is triggered after deriving the received power level of the control signal at the mobile station, and determining that the received power level is less than the receive power level threshold.

  • Patent number: 6771556
Abstract: The present relief module equipped random access memory avoids the need for enforced idle cycles for the processors, thereby enabling the State Machine to operate at its maximum speed. This relief module equipped random access memory also enables the Central Processing Unit to access the data in the single-port Random Access Memory as required to read and write the data contained therein. This is accomplished by the addition of a single-port Random Access Memory module to the plurality of Random Access Memory modules that are typically specified for a particular application. The extra Random Access Memory module alternates its output with each of the others of the plurality of Random Access Memory modules, on a sequential basis, thereby providing effectively extra clock cycles for each Random Access Memory module.

  • Patent number: 6771824
Abstract: A method is disclosed for decoding multiple-coded symbols from a coded input symbol stream in a single clock cycle. The method constructs an original Huffman look-up table by extending the associated Huffman tree to decode multiple symbols in one clock cycle in a first embodiment and decodes multiple DCT coefficient symbols in an alternate embodiment. An advantage of the method is that the depth of the new Huffman tree is adjustable thereby making the method easily adaptable to various hardware architectures. A further advantage of the present invention is that the decoding process speed is significantly increased while the size of the look-up table is nominally increased.

  • Patent number: 6771777
Abstract: A method of coding stereo audio spectral values first carries out grouping of those values in scale factor bands, with which scale factors are associated. Sections are formed next, each comprising at least one scale factor band. The spectral values are coded within at least one section with a code book assigned to the section, out of a plurality of code books each with a code book number assigned to it, the number of the code book used being transmitted as side information to the coded stereo audio spectral values. At least one additional code book number is provided, which does not refer to a code book but shows information relevant to the section to which it is assigned. A method of decoding stereo audio spectral values which are partly coded by the intensity stereo process and which have side information uses the relevant information, showing the additional code book numbers, to cancel the existing coding of the stereo audio spectral values.

  • Patent number: 6772112
Abstract: A system and method for wireless communication using half speech blocks which results in half the number of coded bits as a full speech block after coding. The half speech block can be created with a lower speech rate mode of an adaptive multi-rate vocoder. The reliability of the first speech frame is somewhat lower; however, this is not expected to significantly impact voice quality. Further, reliability can be compensated for by increasing power some on the less reliable blocks.

  • Patent number: 6771598
Abstract: A method is disclosed for determining the admissibility of an offered session of traffic of a specified class to a server in a packetized communication network. Each class c has a peak traffic rate r(c). The server has a total processing rate C. Admitted packets are scheduled according to an EDF scheduling discipline. The method for determining admissibility comprises defining an operating point for the server. The operating point represents the number of sessions Nc of each respective class currently offered or currently being served. The method further comprises determining whether the defined operating point falls within a set of operating points that together define an admissible region. The admissible region consists of operating points for which the probability of violating a delay bound for any packet is below a threshold. The determination of the admissible region involves principles of statistical multiplexing.
