Abstract: Techniques for defragmenting at least one time division multiplexed link in a communication system, wherein provisioned circuits corresponding to traffic demands are assigned to particular time slots of the link. An optimum layout of free space for the link is computed, subject to an interface rate constraint that may be specified as a minimum cross-connect rate and a maximum cross-connect rate. Particular free slots from the optimum layout of free space are selected, and a hitless migration sequence is determined for migrating one or more of the circuits to one or more of the selected free slots. The time slot assignments of one or more of the circuits are adjusted in accordance with the determined migration, sequence in order to defragment the link.
Abstract: A network-wide traffic measurement/analysis problem is formulated as a series of set-cardinality-determination (SCD) problems, using probabilistic distinct sample counting techniques to compute network-wide traffic measurements of interest in a distributed manner via the exchange of light-weight traffic digests (TD's) amongst network nodes/routers. A TD for N packets uses only requires O(loglog N) bits of memory storage, making it possible to distribute nodal TD's to all routers within a domain by piggybacking them as opaque data objects inside existing control messages, such as OSPF link-state packets (LSPs) or I-BGP control messages. A router receiving the TD's can estimate the traffic measurements of interest for each of its local links by solving a series of set-cardinality-determination problems.

Abstract: A packet network employs restorable routing with service level guarantees. Restorable routing generates two disjoint paths through a network of nodes interconnected by links for a connection request demand between and ingress-egress node pair. Restorable routing employs minimum interference criteria to generate the two disjoint paths such that two disjoint paths cause little or no interference with demands of future connection requests between different ingress-egress pairs. Restorable routing generates maximum 2-route flows for the network ingress-egress node pairs to determine corresponding sets of 2-critical links. A reduced network is formed, its links are weighted based on criticality indices generated from the sets of 2-critical links, and the relatively optimal two disjoint paths are computed for the connection request. One of the two disjoint paths is selected as an active path for routing data of the connection request, and the other disjoint path is selected as the backup path.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for system for processing calls to a SIP or VoIP device using the called party's Email address in which a call redirect server component is provisioned with the called party's Email address and VoIP or SIP device address, and a DNS system is updated with the called party's Email address and an address of the call redirect server. VoIP calls or other SIP sessions directed to the called party's Email address are resolved by the DNS system to the address of the redirect server, which in turn redirects the calls to the called party's VoIP or SIP device. The subscriber called party may provision the call redirect server with updated Email address or VoIP or SIP device address information to allow the subscribed to change VoIP phone service providers while callers only need to remember the subscriber's Email address.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for routing a data flow from a source node to a destination node in a mobile ad-hoc network (MANET). The present invention performs this function by first determining a quantitative value for each link at an individual node in the MANET, where the value represents the current quality level of each of the links. Next, the present invention broadcasts an advertisement for each of the links in the MANET by each of the nodes, the advertisement including the value determined above. After broadcasting the advertisement, routing tables are composed at each of the nodes based upon the advertisements. Each routing table includes the value determined above. After composing the routing tables, a route based upon the routing table (and the link values contained therein) is selecting by the source node to direct the data flow to the destination node.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method for obtaining and reporting performance information on node-to-node data transfers, i.e., network hops, based on integrated capabilities in Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6), specifically extension headers. The performance of a (real-time) data flow is monitored between a source-destination pair by inserting specific information in an extension header of select data packets in the data flow. By initiating an extension header at a source client, and updating the extension header at any intermediate nodes along the source-destination path, a destination node can produce a detailed set of statistics relating to the current performance level of select nodes in a network based upon the reported data in the extension header. Additionally, data flow performance can be monitored on any desired network path or segment independent of particular flows on those paths.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for routing a data flow from a source node to a destination node in a mobile ad-hoc network (MANET). The present invention performs this function by first determining a quantitative value for each link at a corresponding origination node, where the value represents the current performance level of the links. Next, the present invention broadcasts an advertisement for each of the links in the MANET by the corresponding origination nodes, the advertisement including the value determined above. After broadcasting the advertisements, routing tables are composed at each of the nodes based upon the advertisements. Each routing table is constructed taking into account the advertised links and their corresponding values. After composing the routing tables, packets are forwarded toward their respective destinations in accordance with the next hops indicated by the routing table.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method for traffic engineering and fast protection of individual data flows using capabilities supported by IPv6. By utilizing IPv6 extension headers and flow labels a specific network route based upon quality of service (QoS) requirements of a data flow can be selected by a source node. Once a route meeting the QoS requirements of the data flow is selected, a source node can insert the route in an initial packet header and force the flow along the corresponding network path. The source and intermediate nodes cache the route and the flow label selected for a data flow. For subsequent packets, the flow label is used by intermediate nodes to determine the next hop along the route.

Abstract: The need for separate CRC bits is eliminated by taking advantage of what has been determined to be an embedded error detection capability of the tail bits generated by the constituent encoders of a turbo coder to perform error detection following turbo decoding. Specifically, it has been recognized that the tail bits are similar to CRC bits that would be generated by a CRC encoder that uses as its generating polynomial the feedback polynomial used by the turbo encoder. At the turbo decoder, after a final turbo decoding iteration cycle, a check is performed on the decoded systematic information bits by calculating the tail bits from the decoded information bits using that generating polynomial and bit-by-bit comparing the calculated tail bits with the systematic tail bits decoded by the turbo decoder. If a mismatch occurs at one or more bit positions, an error is indicated.
Abstract: A network of nodes interconnected by links has content filtering specified at certain nodes, and routing of packet connections through the network is generated based on the specified content-filtering nodes. The network is specified via a content-filtering node placement method and a network-capacity maximization method so as to apply content filtering to packets for substantially all traffic (packet streams) carried by the network.

Abstract: A system for efficiently reassembling packets from cells received on independent switching fabrics according to a serial high speed interface (HSI) protocol. The system includes redundancy in that fabrics may be removed by skipping the fabrics in striping and reassembly sequences. When fabrics are added, the fabrics are included in the striping and reassembly sequences. The system is efficient due in part to in-order transmission of cells serially across multiple fabrics. Full fabric bandwidth is thereby utilized without reordering overhead. Since packets are striped across all available fabrics, load is balanced across the fabrics.
