  • Patent number: 7410907
Abstract: A method of fabricating a device using a multi-layered wafer that has an embedded etch mask adapted to map a desired device structure onto an adjacent (poly)silicon layer. Due to the presence of the embedded mask, it becomes possible to delay the etching that forms the mapped structure in the (poly)silicon layer until a relatively late fabrication stage. As a result, flatness of the (poly)silicon layer is preserved for the deposition of any necessary over-layers, which substantially obviates the need for filling the voids created by the structure formation with silicon oxide.

  • Patent number: 7411904
Abstract: A technique for managing network traffic is disclosed. According to the technique, a set of VLAN IDs is explicitly identified for use with a first service. The rest of the customer traffic is considered as part of a default service. Traffic that is received at a PE from a customer is examined to identify whether or not the traffic belongs to the first service. For example, the VLAN ID and incoming port of a packet is compared to the set of VLAN IDs that were allocated to the first service on the respective port. Traffic that is identified as belonging to the first service is “extracted” from the default service and forwarded on a path that is related to the first service. The remaining traffic is forwarded on a path that is related to the default service. The service extraction technique can be implemented across an MPLS domain.

  • Patent number: 7411900
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for restoration of virtually-concatenated data traffic in a data transmission network. A virtually-concatenated group is formed comprising: (i) a plurality of primary members each associated with a corresponding data stream, and (ii) at least one backup member. Each of the plurality of primary members and the backup member of the virtually-concatenated group may be assigned a corresponding one of a plurality of data transmission routes between first and second nodes of the network. Responsive to a failure of a given one of the plurality of primary members, the backup member is utilized for restoring at least a portion of the data traffic of the given member. The invention also provides a modified link capacity adjustment scheme (LCAS) protocol which substantially reduces the time required to report changes in member status information from a sink node to a source node, thereby substantially reducing the amount of time required to perform a restoration operation.

  • Patent number: 7411985
Abstract: A low complexity packet loss concealment method for use in voice-over-IP speech transmission calculates a cross-correlation of previous speech data to estimate the pitch period of the previous speech when speech frames have been lost. A tap interval used to calculate the cross-correlation is dynamically adapted, thereby reducing the computational complexity of the process. In addition, the pitch period estimation is bypassed completely when it is determined not to be necessary, as a result of the speech being unvoiced or silence. A waveform “bending” operation is performed into the current frame without inserting any algorithmic delay into each frame.

  • Patent number: 7412381
Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing multiple descriptive source coding in which a plurality of homogeneous encoders are advantageously employed in combination with a corresponding plurality of advantageously substantially identical decoders. In particular, diversity is provided to the multiple encoders by modifying the quantization process in at least one of the encoders such that the modified quantization process is based at least on a quantization error resulting from the quantization process of another one of the encoders. In this manner, diversity among the multiple bit streams is obtained, and in particular, the quality of a reconstructed signal based on a combination of multiple decoded bit streams at the receiver is advantageously superior to that based on any one of the decoded bit streams. In accordance with a first illustrative embodiment of the present invention, two Pulse Code Modulation (PCM) coders are employed.

  • Patent number: 7408881
Abstract: Virtually-concatenated data traffic is routed in a network comprising a plurality of nodes. For a given traffic demand to be routed from a source node to a destination node in the network, an initial candidate path set satisfying a differential delay constraint is determined by arranging a plurality of paths in order of increasing delay and selecting a particular subset of the plurality of paths as the initial candidate set. A determination is then made as to whether the initial candidate path set is able to support a bandwidth requirement of the traffic demand. If the initial candidate path set is able to support the bandwidth requirement of the traffic demand, the initial candidate path set is utilized to route the traffic demand.

  • Patent number: 7409007
Abstract: This invention relates to a method and apparatus for reducing adjacent channel power in wireless communication systems. More particularly, the present invention is directed to a system for digitally and adaptively pre-distorting a signal that includes applying a correction to the signal before it is applied to the input of an amplifier such that the correction is equal and opposite to anticipated distortion produced by the amplifier. Thus, the correction and the amplifier distortion cancel one another resulting in a system with an overall linear transfer characteristic. In these circumstances, the adjacent channel power is desirably reduced.

  • Patent number: 7409226
Abstract: A rotating antenna is used in a wireless system to impart a phase onto a received signal by electronically moving the effective receiving antenna location along a circular path such that the modulation phase angle indicates the bearing of the radio transmission and the gain of a signal transmitted by the antenna is increased in the direction of the received signal to enhance the link between transmitter and receiver. In order to simulate a rotating antenna, the antenna preferably comprises an antenna array having a plurality of antennae for use by one receiver. During reception of a signal from a remote transmitter, a scanner is adapted to scan through the plurality of antennae and in turn provide a signal received from each of the plurality of antennae to the receiver in the wireless system. The signal is modulated by virtue of the antenna rotation to include a Doppler frequency component.
