Patent number: 6292044Abstract: A glitch-free clock switch circuit for an integrated circuit having a plurality of asynchronous clocks, wherein only one clock is selected at a time, and wherein the clock switching circuitry for switching from a currently selected clock to an inactive clock to next be selected is activated only for the time it takes to complete the switching. The clock switch circuit includes at least three sets of clock drivers, wherein each set is comprised of two drivers and separate clock drivers are each associated with the output clock, the currently selected clock and the clock to next be selected, respectively. An edge detector turns on these clock drivers in response to a clock select signal, and a set of synchronizers receive and synchronize the clock select signal first with the output clock and then with the currently selected clock and the clock to next be selected, respectively.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 1999Date of Patent: September 18, 2001Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventors: Jiancheng Mo, Feng Chen, Marc Stephen Diamondstein

Patent number: 6289488Abstract: Hardware-software co-synthesis of an embedded system architecture entails partitioning of its specification into hardware and software modules such that its real-time and other constraints are met. Embedded systems are generally specified in terms of a set of acyclic task graphs. For medium-to-large scale embedded systems, the task graphs are usually hierarchical in nature. The embedded system architecture, which is the output of the co-synthesis system, may itself be non-hierarchical or hierarchical. Traditional non-hierarchical architectures create communication and processing bottlenecks, and are impractical for large embedded systems. Such systems require a large number of processing elements and communication links connected in a hierarchical manner, thus forming a hierarchical distributed architecture, to meet performance and cost objectives.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 1998Date of Patent: September 11, 2001Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventors: Bharat P. Patent number: 6289095Abstract: An NPA split management system and associated methods for receiving from a user descriptive instructions regarding an upcoming NPA split, and responsively updating components of the Intelligent Network to reflect corresponding changes in the NPA codes assigned to lines, subscribers, services, etc. A user interface operating in conjunction with a Service Management System allows the user to declare an NPA split and define its characteristics, including the old NPA code, the new NPA code, the central office codes to be “transferred” to the new NPA, and the dates of beginning and end of the permissive dialing period (PDP). The SMS contains indicia corresponding to SMS-managed databases, or tables, records, or fields thereof, which definitively specify whether the data contained therein is affected by an NPA split. The SMS determines which items require updating to the new NPA code, and on which components the affected databases or services reside.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1998Date of Patent: September 11, 2001Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventors: Anthony Buttitta, Augustine Sylvester Samba

Patent number: 6289013Abstract: A packet filter method and apparatus for a router employs an algorithm that decomposes a set of n filter rules of a k-dimensional space into sets of rule segments associated with non-overlapping intervals in each dimension. Such packet filter may be employed for layer four switching applications. Bit-parallel processing may be employed to compare each interval with corresponding fields of a packet received by the router. Bitmaps defined by the sets of rule segments, and so related to the corresponding filter rules are associated with the intervals. The interval bitmaps are combined to form a filter rule bitmap that identifies and associates one or more filter rules with the packet.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 1998Date of Patent: September 11, 2001Assignee: Lucent Technologies, Inc.Inventors: T. Patent number: 6289052Abstract: A method of generating a motion vector associated with a current block of a current frame of a video sequence includes searching at least a section of a reference frame to identify previously reconstructed samples from the reference frame that best estimate motion associated with previously reconstructed samples from the current frame associated with the current block. The previously reconstructed samples may form sets of samples. Such sets may be in the form of respective templates. The method then includes computing a motion vector identifying the location of the set of previously reconstructed samples from the reference frame that best estimates the set of previously reconstructed samples from the current frame associated with the current block. It is to be appreciated such a motion estimation technique is performed in both a video encoder and video decoder so that motion vector data does not need to be transmitted from the encoder to the decoder.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1999Date of Patent: September 11, 2001Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventors: Alireza Farid Faryar, Moushumi Sen, Kyeong Ho Yang
