Patent number: 6240175Abstract: A telephone cord having an automatic dialer incorporated therein. The telephone cord connects a telephone to a wall jack and includes a line powered dialer circuit. When the associated telephone handset goes off-hook for placement of on outgoing call, a predetermined prefix of numbers is automatically dialed prior to a caller entered number using DTMF tones. A confirmation tone may then be issued to the user. In accordance with another aspect of the present invention, the phone cord and accompanying dialer module include a microprocessor to perform intelligent functions. A caller dialed number is initially trapped and buffered, wherein a modified sequence of numbers is then redialed, if necessary. A prerecorded message or confirmation tone may be issued to the caller while the message is being buffered. In another alternative embodiment, a number recognition program is automatically downloaded from a central office upon power up to assist in automatic dialing of local toll calls.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1996Date of Patent: May 29, 2001Assignee: Lucent Technologies, Inc.Inventor: James Stewart Barber

Patent number: 6240172Abstract: A feature-function telephone capable of requesting and receiving special function programs from a telephone company is provided. The feature-function telephone includes an EEPROM for storing special function programs. Upon a user requesting a special service, a microprocessor determines whether the special purpose program corresponding to the special service requested is resident in the EEPROM. If it is established by the microprocessor that the special purpose program corresponding to the special service requested by the user is resident in the EEPROM, then the microprocessor sends a special function code to the telephone company and subsequently carries out the special service requested. Otherwise, the microprocessor sends a reconfiguration request to the telephone company. A method for remotely reconfiguring a feature-function telephone is also provided.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 1998Date of Patent: May 29, 2001Assignee: Lucent Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Xiqun Zhu

Patent number: 6240082Abstract: Each link between components connected in a daisy-chain configuration is also connected to a special router that can be configured to bypass any one or more of the components. In this way, one or more failed components can be isolated from the daisy-chain configuration without affecting the ability of the other operational components to continue to operate properly. In one embodiment, the special router has a configuration of horizontal and vertical switches and delay nodes. The switches can be independently and selectively controlled to isolate one or more of the components from the daisy-chain configuration, while the delay nodes delay transmission of the signals to simulate the processing time of the bypassed components. In this way, interference with the processing of the remaining operational components can be minimized.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 1998Date of Patent: May 29, 2001Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventors: Chang H. Patent number: 6239510Abstract: An apparatus and method for reducing variations in a supply voltage signal. The voltage signal which powers a circuit is regulated by adding or removing a series of redundant loads to the circuit. The redundant loads are normally not connected to the circuit. However, when one of the loads of the circuit is switched out of the circuit, one or more of the redundant loads are switched into the circuit, and then removed gradually from the circuit. When one of the loads of the circuit is to be switched into the circuit, one or more of the redundant loads are switched into the circuit first, then switched out of the circuit when the load is switched in. Thus, the voltage supply sees almost the same load during a turn-on and turn-off transition period, and variations in the voltage signal are reduced.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 1999Date of Patent: May 29, 2001Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventors: Kouros Azimi, Bahram G. Patent number: 6238236Abstract: A stress relief apparatus includes a base having a plurality of pins projecting from the base in an axial direction. The pins may have different lengths to accommodate a conductor. Alternatively, spring loaded pins may be used to accommodate the conductor. Spring loaded pins of a common length may be used. The base having a plurality of slots. The base can be mounted to a mounting surface of a printed circuit board or other electrical system. A clip has an engaging surface normal to the axial direction. A latch is attached to the clip. The latch is received by any one of the plurality of slots for detachably mounting the clip to the base in any one of a plurality of heights. Each height provides a respectively different distance between the pins and the engaging surface, such that any one of a plurality of differently sized conductors is gripped between the pins and the engaging surface when the clip is attached to the base, so as to provide stress relief.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 1998Date of Patent: May 29, 2001Assignee: Lucent Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Thomas Francis Craft, Jr.

Patent number: 6238251Abstract: A patch panel with patch cord plug keyway incorporates at least one jack. The jack communicates with a transmission medium, such as a cable, with the jack including a plug-receiving cavity and a keyway. The plug-receiving cavity is configured to receive and securely mount the plug of a patch cord so that the transmission medium cooperating with the jack electrically communicates with the patch cord when the plug is in an engaged position. The keyway is formed through the jack and communicates with the plug-receiving cavity. Additionally, the patch cord plug incorporates a key which engages the keyway of the jack. So configured, the key assists a technician in aligning the patch cord plug with the plug-receiving cavity of a jack during patching operations. Patent number: 6236982Abstract: A system and method for determining calendric association rules are provided. The method uses calendars to describe the variation of association rules over time, where a specific calendar is defined as a collection of time intervals describing some phenomenon. In accordance with the invention, there is provided a method for identifying calendric association rules in transactional data with time stamped data items. In one exemplary embodiment, the method identifies large itemsets in each time unit, where a large itemset is an itemset that occurs in the transactions more than a given threshold. The method then identifies association rules of the form X—Y from the large itemsets by determining if a requisite support for the itemset XY and a given confidence threshold (ratio of (support of XY)/(support of X)) has been satisfied. Calendric association rules are then generated by examining identified association rules to determine which ones exhibit the temporal patterns specified by given calendars.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 1998Date of Patent: May 22, 2001Assignee: Lucent Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Sameer Mahajan, Sridhar Ramaswamy, Abraham Silberschatz
