  • Patent number: 5707495
Abstract: A headbox for a papermaking machine with an outlet slot that distributes pulp suspension over the, working width of the papermaking machine. For controlling operating parameters of throughput, pulp density and fiber quality of the suspension over the width of the machine, the headbox has a plurality of individual sections across the width of the machine. Each section has respective channels therethrough for passing pulp suspension. At least one connection at each section is to a controllable supply of pulp suspension where the operating parameters of that supply are controllable. Only separate operating parameter controlled streams pass through the sections of the headbox. Operating parameter control devices may deliver adjusted streams to a mixer upstream of the headbox channels. The mixer may also have individual sections across the width of the machine.

  • Patent number: 5706883
Abstract: A system in which mass quantities of liquids may be stored in a substantially frozen state, portions thawed for dispensing, and any undispensed thawed portions rechilled for further storage is disclosed. The system includes a tank with a substantially bell-shaped, or flared, interior, the flaring of the tank surface combining with force of gravity to detach frozen material for dispensing. Separate temperature control sections allow selected areas of the tank to be heated or cooled as necessary, moreover, and distinct reservoirs of heat-transfer liquid (such as glycol) may be used for heating versus cooling the tank.

  • Patent number: 5707489
Abstract: A method of processing recycled paper which contains such a high amount of wax, hot melts or stickies that they would be expected to cause a stoppage of the paper-manufacturing machine. The paper to be recycled is pulped in a pulper and passed on to respective subsequent stages which include a despecker, grader and hydrocyclone. Pulping takes place at a temperature of at least 60.degree. C., and at the same time subjects the paper to a high shear action. The processing line includes a pulp-thickening stage, preferably after the processing stages mentioned, in order to separate off a very high proportion of the wax, hot melts and stickies finely dispersed in the pulper.

  • Patent number: 5707169
Abstract: A device for detachably fastening lines and conduits, in particular, flexible tubes, pipes and cables, to a support, which includes a mounting element surrounding and holding the lines, the mounting element including at least one stackable holding module whose plane front face is approximately parallel to the surface of the support. The front face is held at a distance from the surface of the support by spacer elements provided integral with the holding module, the wall area of the latter including guiding strips projecting from the front face towards the surface of the support, as well as apertures for the lines. By way of a fastening bolt going through a center bore on the front face, the mounting element is detachably fastened to the support. In plan view the exterior edges of the holding module define a shape of at least threefold symmetry. In this manner it will be possible to obtain a precise, predefined, secure, space-saving and well-ordered layout for lines of different orientation.

  • Patent number: 5708480
Abstract: A method and a circuit configuration for flicker reduction in a television set include counting the number of partial areas of a field/frame which have been ascertained to be moving, through the use of a motion detector. When a threshold value is exceeded, a changeover is made from a field reproduction sequence with reduced flicker to a field reproduction sequence with reduced flicker and correct motion. The method can be practiced by using standard components.

  • Patent number: 5702760
Abstract: A coating system for material webs, specifically of paper or cardboard, includes two mutually parallel rolls directly coordinated with each other, the rolls having a mutually variable spacing such that the rolls can be positioned to create a press gap for coating the web, or so as not to create a press gap. When the rolls are not positioned to form a press gap, the web passes over both roll shells while circumventing the applicators which have already dosed the roll shells with a coating mixture. The web passes over both roll shells for purposes of transferring the coating mixture predosed by the applicators. Solely the web pull in conjunction with the wrap angle of the two roll shells serves the final dosing by scraping off an excess quantity from the roll shells.
