  • Patent number: 5515553
Abstract: An improved toilet tank flush control system provides a spring member which engages a rear surface of the flap control valve of the tank to apply a pressure to the flap tending to close it, which allows the user to control the amount of water discharged in the flushing action from a minimum up to the full quantity within the tank. Two alternative embodiments of the flush control mechanism are described herein, the first being for use with American standard type toilets in which the spring is mounted on a bracket fastened to the base of the tank and stands upwardly therefrom at an angle of the order of 45 degrees to engage a base surface of the float control of the flap valve, and the second being for use with a Crane type toilets in which the spring is mounted on the overflow duct and faces downwardly to engage an upper surface of the flap valve as it pivots upwardly.

  • Patent number: 5515619
Abstract: In a papermaking machine, the drying section includes a vacuum based system which serves to guide the web and supporting felt (15) from a first drying cylinder (11) to a transfer vacuum roller (10), which has perforations (13) through which a vacuum is communicated into the interior of the roller 10 from of an external suction box (14). The suction box (14) includes lengthwise extending sealing strips (28, 29) located adjacent and bounding the free circumferential surface of the transfer roller (10), which is not overlapped by the felt of the drying section. The sealing strips extend from the suction box 14 to the roller mantel (10a) of the roller 10. These strips are further designed in the style of a doctor blade and are flexibly mounted on the suction box (14) so that they are flexible and biased against the roller 10 by spring action. They extend approximately tangentially to the surface of the roller mantel (10a), contacting it gently.

  • Patent number: 5515772
Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus for brewing a drink, such as coffee. The apparatus comprises a chamber for accommodating a mixture of water and a ground product to be extracted, the chamber having a perforated base on which a strip of filter material can be laid. There is structure on one side of the base for moving the strip of filter material over the base after a quantity of drink has been brewed and has been removed via the piece of filter material. The structure for moving the strip of filter material comprise a separate transport unit, and fixing structure is provided for fixing the transport unit to one of two opposing sides of the base, as desired. The structure for moving the strip of filter material can also comprise a separate guide unit, which is fixed in each case to that side of the base which is opposite to the side where the transport unit is located. A supply unit for filter material can also be fitted at the side of the base where the guide unit is located.

  • Patent number: 5513911
Abstract: In a mixing drum (16) of a vehicle mixer is supported a coaxial pipe (24) which together with a closure element (36) and a feeding hopper (42) forms a constructional unit. The pipe (24) is supported by two bearings of the mixing drum (16) so as to be relatively rotatable and longitudinally displaceable. The closure element (36) serves for closing a tail opening (20) of the drum (16) and can be adjusted axially with the central pipe (24) by means of an adjusting device in order to open or close the tail opening (20) of the drum. The pipe (24) extends nearly over the entire length of the mixing drum and ensures the vibration-free bearing of the closure element so that between it and the drum mouth during driving, no relative shifts can occur which would damage the drum mouth sealing. The constructional unit can be pulled as a unit from the mixing drum so that maintenance work can readily be carried out.

  • Patent number: 5513532
Abstract: A method and apparatus for detecting internal defects in a workpiece are disclosed which uses time inversion to invert echo signals received by a transducer from the workpiece with respect to the signal shape and its time distribution and retransmits the inverted signal onto the workpiece. The method involves transmitting an unfocused ultrasonic beam onto the workpiece, receiving an echo signal from the workpiece, storing the first echo signal and inverting the first echo signal from each transducer with respect to the signal shape and time sequence. The inverted signal is transferred to a memory and the aforementioned procedure is carried out for each of the inspection zones n on the workpiece. The stored, inverted first echo signals are then transmitted onto the workpiece, each inverted signal being transmitted onto the inspection zone n from which the non-inverted first echo signal was received.

  • Patent number: 5514325
Abstract: The invention describes a process for cooling and if necessary calibrating elongated, especially continuously extruded objects (7) made of plastic as well as a cooling and calibrating device (5) for carrying out the process. With this the object (7) during its advancement in the longitudinal direction is exposed in consecutive regions (13 to 18; 86 to 89, 95 to 97) to a higher vacuum in each case and is cooled with respect to the initial temperature to a lower final temperature. The heat to be removed for cooling is extracted by a coolant washing round the object (7).
