Abstract: A fusion protein comprising a carrier and a desired peptide or protein linked to the carrier via an enzymatically excisable dipeptide, such as Lys-Arg, is produced in a host microorganism and then the desired peptide or protein is recovered by treating the fusion protein at least with a protease specifically recognizing the dipeptide and specifically hydrolyzing the peptide bond of the dipeptide. The fusion protein includes tandem-form fusion proteins in which desired peptide or protein molecules are linked together repeatedly. According to the cleavage site in the dipeptide, the protease may be used in combination with an aminopeptidase specifically releasing a basic amino acid from the N-terminal side of the dipeptide and/or a carboxypeptidase specifically releasing a basic amino acid from the C-terminal side of the dipeptide.
Abstract: A turbulence insert of a headbox of a papermaking machine is provided that includes a bundle of channels for guiding the suspension of materials from a first region to a second region. The channel bundle is comprised inpart of edge channels that have no adjacent channel on at least one longitudinal side, and is also comprised in part of central channels that have at least one adjacent channel on each longitudinal side. Also, at least two adjacent edge channels are provided that are joined with each other at least one part of their length.
Abstract: A decoration, such as a wreath, of the present invention has a base with a plurality of openings formed therein and a group of flexible decorating strips which are interwoven through the openings of the base for creating an ornamental design. The end portions of the decorating strips extend from the back side of the base through adjacent openings in such a manner that they create a ruffled effect when viewing the back side of the grid. In another aspect of the invention, another group of decorating strips, each having a loop which extends through an opening, are positioned adjacent the front side of the base. A method of assembling the decoration is also disclosed.

Abstract: A system and method for routing a call through the PSTN to an auxiliary communications services mailbox, such as voice mail, of a mobile subscriber. The call is received in the nearest exchange and routed to the exchange where the mobile subscriber is located. If the mobile subscriber, for example, does not answer, a voice mail number is used to route the call to the exchange where the voice mailbox is located.
Abstract: The invention relates to cosmetic or pharmaceutical, particularly dermatological, compositions. More particularly, the invention relates to the utilization of an extract of Coleus Esquirolii, Coleus Scutellariodes or Coleus Xanthanthus or one of the mixtures thereof for the preparation of cosmetic or pharmaceutical, particularly dermatological, composition. In particular, the invention helps to efficiently promote skin or hair pigmentation.

Abstract: The invention comprises a three-step switching unit, comprising a number of incoming group related conductors, every group connected to a first switching stage, formed as an input circuit, a number of outgoing group related conductors, every group connected to a second switching stage, formed as an output circuit and a third switching stage. A control unit coacts with the switching stages in order to connect one of the incoming conductors with a selected outgoing conductor by means of a connecting path, pointed out through the between related third switching stage. Each of the outgoing conductors, belonging to the first switching stage, coacts with an electro-optical converter. Respective connection between the first switching stage and the third switching stage consists of an optical conductor. The third switching stage is adapted to transfer optical information-carrying signals through the connecting path.
Abstract: A system for allocating communication channels within a cellular radio system in which each channel seizure request is assigned a call type based upon the capabilities of the mobile station, the nature of the call and the characteristics of the subscriber. A first algorithm is used to select a communication channel group for the call and a second algorithm is used to select an available communication channel from within the selected channel group.

Abstract: A mobile machine for withdrawing ballast from a ballast bed includes two receptacles, each of which including a separate intake port and discharge outlet, with a suction tube being selectively connectable to the intake ports of the receptacles. In order to selectively seal the intake ports in an air-tight manner, each intake port accommodates a closing element so as to allow an alternate emptying and filling of the receptacles without interruption of the withdrawal of ballast.

Abstract: An end treatment for a thrie-beam type guardrail and a safety device specifically oriented toward trucks, vans and other utility vehicles having high profiles and centers of gravity. A slotted thrie-beam terminal is featured for use with highway guardrail systems. At least one reinforced slotted section is provided within the thrie-beam terminal to reduce the ability of the thrie beam to resist buckling in response to an axial type loading from end-on impacts. The terminal also provides for gating of laterally impacting vehicles. The terminal incorporates a break-away support post cable release mechanism which lessens risk to impacting vehicles which impact the lead post.

Abstract: Antibodies (Ak), in particular autoantibodies, such as autoantibodies against thyroid peroxidase (TPO), are determined by a procedure in which the sample to be investigated is reacted with two further, in particular monoclonal antibodies and an antigen. The two further antibodies are an immobilised antibody (Ak.sub.imm) and a freely labelled antibody (Ak*) against the antigen (Ag), and the latter is preferably used in the form of a crude, natural antigen, for example in the form of an organ extract. The presence of the antibodies (Ak) to be determined is evident as a disturbance of the formation of a sandwich of the two added antibodies (Ak.sub.imm and Ak*) with the added antigen (Ag) and as a consequent reduction in the binding of the label to the solid phase.
Abstract: A wet press for a paper making machine presses out water from a moist paper web. The wet press has a plurality of press rolls, preferably five. The press rolls are paired so that each pair defines a respective press nip. There are preferably at least four press nips defined by the paired press rolls. The press rolls are so placed and the press nips are so defined and the web is so trained on the path through the wet press that the paper web is always supported by the outer surface of one of the press rolls on the web path from the first press nip to the last press nip. At the second press nip in the path of the web, each of the press rolls there forms a felt free second press nip and each of the press rolls at the second nip has a closed outer surface. The same may be true for the fourth press nip. Some of the press rolls may be shoe press rolls.
Abstract: A pressurized fluid flow regulator for controlling fluid in a fluid circuit is disclosed having a high pressure feed chamber in fluid communication with a source of pressurized fluid and with an exhaust chamber which, in turn, has a fluid outlet connected to the device to receive the pressurized fluid. A first valve controls the flow of fluid between the high pressure feed chamber and the exhaust chamber, while a second valve opens and closes the fluid outlet of the exhaust chamber. The regulator also includes a bypass chamber having an inlet in fluid communication with the high pressure feed chamber and an outlet in communication with the inlet of the source of pressurized fluid. A valve system controls the opening and closing of the bypass chamber inlet such that the inlet is opened when the fluid pressure in the high pressure feed chamber exceeds a threshold value so as to avoid over pressurization of the fluid in the system.

Abstract: The present invention is based on a relatively simple mechanism which heretofore has not been tried before. The mechanism depends on modulation of a collimated beam transverse to the beam direction rather than the usual longitudinal modulation. Conversion of the transverse motion into longitudinal bunching in an output cavity is accomplished by means of the difference in path length in a bending magnet. Since the present invention does not depend on longitudinal modulation, it is suitable for pulsed superpower (1 GW) applications, but it can be equally suited for multi-megawatt cw applications. The present invention pertains to an apparatus for bunching relativistic electrons. The apparatus comprises means for imparting a periodic velocity in a first direction in a first region to electrons of an electron beam moving in a second direction.
