A first interface of the server device provides a first communication link to a portable telecommunication apparatus. A second interface connects the server device to an electronic utility device. The server program communicates with a client program in the portable telecommunication apparatus through the first interface. The server program also communicates with the electronic utility device through the second interface, so that digital information may be transferred between the portable telecommunication apparatus and the electronic utility device.

    Abstract: A checksum is calculated on a database stored in a SIM card when changes are made to a database stored therein. This checksum can be stored in a mobile phone, e.g., with the change log. When synchronization between devices is to be performed, another checksum can be calculated on the database stored in the SIM card. If the stored checksum does not match the calculated checksum, then a change has occurred in the contents of the database that is not reflected in the change log. Accordingly, a full synchronization process can be performed wherein the database records in each device can be compared. If, on the other hand, the checksums match, then the change log accurately reflects any changes made to the database stored in the SIM card and the synchronization process can proceed more expediently using the change log.

    Abstract: In a point-to-multipoint link traffic is transmitted in packets across the shared medium. Access to the medium is controlled by permits sent by a central node to multipoint nodes in response to a queue record of the number of packets awaiting transmission at the multipoint nodes. When circuit emulated traffic, or traffic with tight delay and delay variation requirements, is to be sent across the link, permits are sent by the central node unsolicited at regular intervals in accordance with information stored in a scheduler. The scheduler may be a single or several circular memories comprising cells representing time slots on the link. The cells contain scheduling information corresponding to one or more multipoint nodes. The central node consults the scheduler to determine if a permit is scheduled. If no permit is scheduled the time slot may be allocated to an unscheduled service on the basis of a queue record.

    Abstract: A heat exchanger design is described which includes header plates, apertures, seals and flow tubes. A plurality of apertures in at least one header plate are configured to allow a flow tube to be inserted into or removed from the aperture as a whole at an angle. A seal is included within the aperture and is supported by differing diameters of the aperture wall. The seal engages the flow tube in a manner to allow high pressure operation of the heat exchanger when the flow tube is perpendicular to the header plate.

A vibration transducer may receive vibrations reflected from a structure inside the body and may convert the reflected vibrations into an electrical signal. Doppler shifts between the transmitted and received vibrations may be used to estimate the velocity of the structure inside the body.

    Abstract: The present invention reduces automatic gain control (AGC) transients using first and second AGC processing branches to receive a signal. A gain is selectively adjusted (if desired) in the one of the AGC processing branches during a first time period. However, a gain is not adjusted in the other AGC processing branch during that first time period. The signals generated by the first and second AGC processing branches are then diversity processed to generate a received signal. The diversity processing effectively reduces the effect of any AGC transient.
