  • Patent number: 6947560
Abstract: The present invention includes a method and device for calculating an encryption key, K?c, for use in the initialization of an encryption algorithm. The present invention discloses a method for calculating the encryption key, K?c(x), by obtaining a ciphering key, Kc(x), determining a maximum ciphering key length, L, based on the requirements of the two devices wishing to communicate, and determining a maximum usable encryption key length, Lmax. The ciphering key, Kc(x), is then manipulated through an addition function or an exclusively-or function with a polynomial g1(x). The result is multiplied with a polynomial g2(x), which spreads the starting points of said encryption key, K?c(x). The encryption key is thus determined according to K?c(x)=g2(L)(x)[Kc(x) mod g1(L)(x)]. The method of calculating the encryption key, K?c, ensures that a maximum ciphering key length is not exceeded. In addition, the method provides new possible starting points each time a new encryption key, K?c, is generated.

  • Patent number: 6946045
Abstract: An adhesive and material dispenser for dispensing single sheets of material from stacks of sheets of material or from rolls of material and applying an adhesive to the sheet. The adhesive is applied by contacting the adhesive portion of an adhesive transfer tape to the sheet. The sheet of material with the adhesive applied thereto can be used to wrap floral arrangements or flower pots or other articles. The dispenser may be combined with an automatic pot wrapping apparatus so the adhesive application and decorative pot wrapping sequence can be combined into one continuous operation.

  • Patent number: 6947753
Abstract: A system, method and processing unit for mobile station location determination. Mobile Assisted Handoff (MAHO) measurements are sent to the processing unit that also retrieves the corresponding transmitted signal strengths and electromagnetic field distribution functions for the relevant base stations. The location of the mobile station is then determined by minimising the following formula: F ? ( ? , x , y ) = ? j = 1 m ? M ? ( P Rj - ? · P Tj · G j ? ( x , y ) ) where m is the number of relevant base stations, M is an optimisation metric (such as (?j)2 or |?j|)PRj is received signal strength, PTj transmitted signal strength, ? attenuation (e.g. in the mobile station), and Gj(x,y) the electromagnetic field distribution function.

Abstract: A unit and a method of programming mounted programmable memories by a programming boundary scan component/unit being directly coupled to the programmable memory and directly coupled to a boundary scan test system. Directly coupling the memory to the programming boundary scan component Thereby eliminates having to serially clock information to and from the programmable memory through a number of other boundary scan components/units. The drive routines for programming the programmable memory by means of a boundary scan test system only needs to be modified as to the length of the serial boundary scan cell chain.

  • Publication number: 20050200437
Abstract: The invention comprises a technique and associated mechanisms by which dielectric resonator circuits, such as filters, can be tuned in both frequency, bandwidth or both without the need for irises, tuning screws and/or tuning plates. In accordance with the invention, the positions of the dielectric resonators are adjustable relative to each other within the cavity in multiple ways, including vertically and horizontally. The dielectric resonators also may tilt relative to each other. Furthermore, an off-center longitudinal hole can be machined in one or more of the dielectric resonators so as to make the electromagnetic field of the resonator non-uniform so that the dielectric resonator can be rotated about its longitudinal axis to alter the coupling between dielectric resonators.

Abstract: A device for determining soil compaction includes a control member fitted with one or more sensors that measure the response of the control member during co-action between the control member and a soil surface. In one embodiment, this response can be flexure as characterized by a measurable parameter such as strain. A measurement module in communication with the sensor or sensors determines a soil modulus for the soil based on the strain measurement from the sensor or sensors. In one arrangement, the control member includes one set of sensors that measure radial strain and another set of sensors that measures hoop strain. The device can also include a load sensor for measuring the load applied to the control member. • Patent number: 6944460
Abstract: A system, method, and computer program product for allocating resources to a communication channel between a transmitter and a receiver are disclosed. The receiver implements a procedure that instructs the transmitter to utilize the maximum available bandwidth, consistent with maintaining satisfactory communication channel performance. When the performance of the communication channel degrades, the receiver measures the strength of a communication signal received from the transmitter. If the communication signal strength satisfies a threshold, then the bandwidth dedicated to the communication channel may be decreased, and at least one of the number of bits per symbol and coding rate may be increased. By contrast, if the communication signal strength fails to satisfy a threshold, then the transmitter may increase the transmission power and/or reduce the user rate of the communication link.

  • Patent number: 6940511
Abstract: A pixel is textured by storing a first texel reference value, a second texel reference value, and texel mapping values where each texel mapping value represents a k-tuple of (ternary) references to the first texel reference value, the second texel reference value and a third texel reference value to thereby represent a block of texels. A pixel value for the pixel is generated from the stored texel values and the pixel is displayed responsive to the generated pixel value. In some embodiments, respective pluralities of texel reference values and texel mapping values that map thereto are stored for respective ones of a plurality of overlapping blocks of texels. In further embodiments, a first mipmap value for a pixel is bilinearly interpolated from the retrieved texel values for the set of nearest neighbor texels. A second mipmap value for the pixel is generated by averaging the retrieved texel values for the set of nearest neighbor texels.

  • Patent number: 6940182
Abstract: A dam or barrier around the periphery of a die in a flip-chip package changes the shape of the underfill to reduce stress resulting from edge effects. The dam can include a treated region of a substrate having an affinity to an underfill material. The treated region causes liquid underfill material to bead, thereby controlling the wetting angle of the underfill material and shaping the underfill to eliminate sources of stress such as underfill fillet regions that are subject to significant shrinkage. The dammed underfill additionally avoids or reduces the extent of areas having thermal coefficients of expansion that differ from the optimal level because of low filler particle concentration.

  • Patent number: 6939543
Abstract: The present invention encompasses monoclonal and chimeric antibodies that bind to lipoteichoic acid of Gram positive bacteria. The antibodies also bind to whole bacteria and enhance phagocytosis and killing of the bacteria in vitro and enhance protection from lethal infection in vivo. The mouse monoclonal antibody has been humanized and the resulting chimeric antibody provides a previously unknown means to diagnose, prevent and/or treat infections caused by gram positive bacteria bearing lipoteichoic acid. This invention also encompasses a peptide mimic of the lipoteichoic acid epitope binding site defined by the monoclonal antibody. This epitope or epitope peptide mimic identifies other antibodies that may bind to the lipoteichoic acid epitope. Moreover, the epitope or epitope peptide mimic provides a valuable substrate for the generation of vaccines or other therapeutics.
