  • Patent number: 6246876
Abstract: A method and apparatus for synchronization of inter-exchange hand-offs within a cellular telecommunications system is disclosed. A mobile station transmits an indicator to a serving exchange for the mobile station when switching traffic channels during an inter-exchange hand-off. Upon receipt of the indicator, the serving exchange generates a hand-off synchronization message which is transmitted to the anchor exchange for the call to initialize switching of the group switch from a traffic path to the serving exchange to a traffic path to the target exchange.

  • Patent number: 6241016
Abstract: The present invention provides a pump drive assembly for a deep well, submersible, progressing cavity pump that includes an internal hydraulic pump for slowing the counter rotation of the polished rod induced by recoil in the sucker rod. The pump drive assembly includes a housing enclosing a hydraulic fluid reservoir and a gear chamber separate from the reservoir. A drive shaft extends into the housing and includes a drive gear integral with or keyed to the drive shaft. A main shaft also extends into the housing and includes a main gear integral with or keyed to the main shaft. The main gear is engaged with the drive gear within the gear chamber, where the gear chamber includes an inlet and an outlet channel providing fluid communication between the gear chamber and the reservoir, so that the gears form a reversible gear pump within the housing. The reversible gear pump operates to pump hydraulic fluid from the reservoir into the gear chamber and back into the reservoir.

  • Patent number: 6241100
Abstract: The present invention comprises a novel roller for use on agricultural produce grading, sorting, cleaning and conveying equipment. The roller comprises a cylindrical hub having protruding fingers thereon which extend outward from the hub in a direction perpendicular to the hub axis and inclined away from the direction of rotation of the hub. The roller further comprises lateral support shoulders which allow the fingers to flex properly in the direction of rotation while providing increased rigidity in a lateral direction to improve grading opening uniformity and consistency. A concave shape on the outer surface of these lateral support shoulders also defines an improved grading opening shape which serves to increase grading uniformity as well. A smooth surface to the grading opening surfaces also prevent accumulation of mud and dirt in the critical grading opening area.

  • Publication number: 20010001982
Abstract: A heating and air conditioning unit of a motor vehicle has a heat exchanger that can be supplied with coolant of the engine and a compressor disposed in the refrigerant circuit of the air conditioning unit for the compression of a gaseous refrigerant. The heat exchanger 3, apart from the exchanger region 6 through which the coolant flows, has a separate exchanger region 7 for the heated refrigerant, which can be supplied with heated refrigerant via a bypass line 14 branching on the pressure side of the compressor 8 from the refrigerant circuit. The bypass line 14, after passing though the heat exchanger 3, discharges on the suction side of the compressor 8 again into the refrigerant circuit.

  • Patent number: 6240284
Abstract: A system and method in a radio telecommunications network for reconnecting an emergency call between a roaming mobile station with an emergency (emergency MS) and a public safety answering point (PSAP) when the call has been disconnected before the call was finished. The network includes a serving mobile switching center (MSC) serving the emergency MS, a border MSC bordering the serving MSC, and a home location register (HLR) that stores features and subscription data for the emergency MS. When the emergency call begins, a hotlining feature for the emergency MS is activated in the HLR which automatically reconnects the emergency MS to the PSAP when the MS accesses the network through a registration or by originating a subsequent call. Inter-exchange messages ensure that the emergency MS is automatically connected to the PSAP, even if the emergency MS accesses the network in the border MSC.

  • Publication number: 20010001762
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of performing handover in a mobile radio system. The mobile radio system performs quality measurements on signals transmitted (300) between a mobile terminal and predetermined radio base stations. Handover is performed (301, 302, 303) when some of the measured signal strengths exceeds the signal strength for the radio base station to which the mobile terminal for the moment is set up, added to a handover value. The handover value is dependent on measured signal strengths and neighboring cell relation values. The neighboring cell relation values depend on a probability for handover to be performed from one radio base station to another radio base station in the mobile radio system.

  • Patent number: 6234023
Abstract: The invention provides an apparatus and method for fill level monitoring in which the height of contents in a container (10) is monitored. The apparatus comprises an ultrasound reciever (30) and signal processing means (50-56) adapted to receive signals from the receiver, the arrangement being such that the signal processing means (50-56) identifies a first signal (32), in use, which is representative of a wavefront (26) transmitted through the contents of the container (10) independently of the height of the contents in the container (10), and a second signal (34) that is representative of a wavefront (24) that is reflected from the interface (22) between the surface of the contents in the container (10) and the environment above the contents, and in which the signal processing means (50-56) uses the difference in travel time for the two wavefronts (24, 26) to provide a measurement of the level of the contents in the container (10).

  • Patent number: 6233449
Abstract: An operation and maintenance control point (OMCP) operates at an intermediate level in a telecommunications network between the network elements and the network management system (NMS). The OMCP reduces the processing load on the NMS, and rather than reporting symptoms, provides the NMS with suggested corrective actions to correct reported problems. The NMS executes the suggested corrective actions and compares the actual results in the network with predicted results. Feedback on the results is then provided to the OMCP to improve its analysis and provide more effective corrective actions are suggested if the problem recurs. By automatically interfacing with the NMS, which analyzes and executes the suggested corrective actions, the OMCP creates a self-engineering telecommunications network.
