Abstract: A method and system are disclosed in which an incoming call is routed to a service node with a World-Wide Web interface. In a preferred embodiment, responsive to an incoming call, an "alert" software routine is executed in the service node, which sends an alert message to a Java software application residing in the called party's terminal (e.g., personal computer, etc.). The Java application causes a window to be displayed on the called party's terminal, which shows pertinent information about the calling party. The displayed window also contains "buttons" that allow the called party to choose (at a minimum) whether to accept the call, reject the call, hold the call, or re-direct the call to another phone.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for transferring a short message between an originating mobile station and the short message service center permanently associated with the destination mobile station is disclosed. The originating mobile station sends the short message (including the address of the destination mobile station) to the mobile network over an air interface. The mobile network transfers the short message internally between switching nodes. One of the switching nodes interrogates a subscriber database, and passes the mobile station's address to the database, and passes the information showing that this is a short message submitted from a mobile station. The database checks to determine if the destination mobile station is short message service capable. If not, the short message is terminated. Otherwise, the database returns the address of the short message service center permanently associated with the destination mobile station.

Abstract: A simulation system (200) executes on a host computer system (110) for simulating a target telecommunications system. The simulation system (200) includes a simulation kernel (231) which contains a plurality of simulation subsystems, each of the simulation subsystems corresponding to subsystems of the target telecommunications system. The simulation kernel (231) is assembled as one executable image with all simulation subsystems executing in one common process context and sharing one common execution thread. The simulation system includes a central processor simulator (234) which simulates execution of target instructions in response to commands entered through a user communication channel to the simulation kernel. The central processor simulator simulates utilization of registers of the central processor of the target telecommunication system. An internal bus of the target telecommunication system is simulated by function calls between the simulation subsystems.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for measuring telephone traffic volume in a cellular telephone system which, in a first embodiment, includes a receiver located at a proposed micro-cell site for measuring the traffic volume. In a second embodiment, a test base station transmits a signal and a processor communicates with a base station controller serving macro-cells surrounding the proposed micro-cell site to extract signal strength measurement reports transmitted to the cellular telephone network from mobile stations receiving the signal transmitted by the test base station. In a third embodiment, the test base station is located at the proposed micro-cell site and is assigned a location area identity different from that of the macro-cells surrounding the proposed micro-cell. Mobile stations operating in and around the proposed micro-cell site are required to register in the new location area and transmit a signal strength report which includes the signal strength of the test base station.
Abstract: An improved actuator button having components integrated therein which permit the single button to be operated in two distinct and mutually exclusive modes with each of the modes achieving respective separate functions. The improved actuator button advantageously incorporates a `press down` mode and a `slide` mode, which achieve separate functions with each operation of the modes. The features of the improved actuator button have general application in the manufacturing of electrical and electronic products. In particular, the improved actuator button has useful application in portable compact disk players (CD players) wherein the exclusively press mode operation of the actuator achieves the `open` function by opening the protective cover of the CD player, while the exclusively `slide` mode operation of the actuator achieves the `hold` function by preventing interruption of the currently played CD program.
Abstract: The present invention provides a method of producing a protective device that is adapted for use with a container in order to inhibit ingress of unwanted materials through a handhold opening in a wall of the container. The method includes a first step of advancing a first strip of material in a longitudinal direction from an upstream location to a downstream location. As this first strip of material is advanced, it is longitudinally scored after which a second strip of material is secured to the first strip of material such that the second strip is sealed around a discrete consecutive portion of the scoring. Thereafter, an adhesive material is applied to a side surface of the first strip opposite the second strip. The joined first and second strips are then cut into individual units with portions of the first and second strips in each unit being sealed completely around the periphery thereof.

Abstract: A method of inhibiting the production of mycotoxins of fungus, such as aflatoxin-producing and sterigmatocystin-producing fungi, in plants susceptible to contamination by such mycotoxins consists of introducing into the susceptible plant a gene encoding for lipoxygenase pathway enzyme of the mycotoxin. Exemplary of the lipoxygenase pathway enzymes are soybean lipoxygenase, allene oxidase, hydroperoxide lyase and hydroperoxide dehydratase. The resulting transgenic plant demonstrates substantial resistance to mycotoxin contamination of such fungus. Plants which are substantially resistant to mycotoxin contamination of Aspergillus spp. are further obtained by incorporating into mycotoxin susceptible plant antisense genes for the 9-hydroperoxide fatty acid producing lipoxygenases.
