Abstract: A water supply system which includes an adjustable bury pressure tank having an adjustable float pump control assembly. The water supply system may be adapted for use in a wide variety of climatic conditions.
Abstract: An active interphase reactor for twelve-pulse diode rectifiers is disclosed. The system draws near sinusoidal currents from a power utility. In one embodiment, a low kVA (0.02 P.sub.o (PU)) active current source injects a triangular current into an interphase reactor of a twelve-pulse diode rectifier. This modification results in near sinusoidal utility input currents with less than 1% THD. In alternative embodiments, a low kVA, 12-pulse system with an autotransformer arrangement (kVA rating of 0.18 P.sub.o (PU)) is implemented with the proposed active interface reactor. The resulting systems draw clean power from the utility and are suitable for powering larger kVA ac motor drive systems.
Abstract: A mobile telephone is used to control the routing of an incoming or outgoing call in a mobile communications network. A number of registration devices having low energy transmitters are strategically located throughout the coverage area of the mobile communications network. Each registration device is associated with a number of nearby fixed telephones. As the mobile terminal enters the coverage area of a registration device, the mobile telephone receives a registration signal from the registration device. At the onset of a call, the mobile terminal displays a list of the fixed telephones to a user. The user inputs a preference to the mobile terminal to receive or make the incoming or outgoing call via one of the nearby fixed telephones or the mobile terminal. The mobile terminal transmits the preference to a service node, which sets up and appropriately routes the call. The mobile terminal thus remotely controls the routing of the incoming or outgoing call.
Abstract: Apparatus and method for determining the activation status of a receiving station of a communication system. A sending station determines the activation status of the receiving station to be active, possibly inactive, or inactive. When the receiving station is only temporarily unable to receive signals transmitted thereto by the sending station, the sending station is less likely to determine the receiving station to be inactive as the receiving station is first determined to be possibly inactive.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing a call circuit connection between a mobile station and a remote application host is disclosed. Once a call circuit connection is initially established between a mobile station and remote application host to enable data to transfer therebetween, the call circuit connection is monitored for detection of an idle condition. Upon detection of the idle condition, identifying information for the call circuit connection is stored, and a first portion of the call circuit connection is disconnected while maintaining a second portion of the connection. Upon a request for reconnection of the call circuit connection, the first portion of the call circuit connection is reestablished with the second portion to enable continued data transfer.

Abstract: A communication network, and associated method, permitting wireless communication with a mobile unit in an indoor environment. Transceivers are positioned at spaced-apart locations and are coupled to a centralized, control device. The transceivers include transmitter portions and wideband receiver portions. Uplink signals transmitted by a mobile unit are received by receiver portions of transceivers within the range of the uplink signal. Downlink signals are generated by at least two transmitter portions of at least two transceivers. The control device controls selection of which transmitter portions and which receiver portions of the plurality of transceivers are utilized to effectuate two-way communication with the mobile unit. Control signals can also be transmitted by the transmitter portions of all of the transceivers such that a mobile unit positioned anywhere within the area of the communication network receives the control signals.

Abstract: A mobile communications apparatus monitors the power level of its internal battery power supply, and reports the measured power information on a periodic basis to a serving network. These reports are preferably made during the course of an ongoing call communications utilizing an uplink communications channel. The reported power information is stored by the network. In response to a subsequent detection of an instance of a call drop with respect to that mobile communications apparatus, the stored reported power information is retrieved and processed to determine whether failure of the battery for the mobile communications apparatus is a likely cause of the call drop. If such is the determination, that fact is noted in association with recording the instance of the call drop as the drop cause.
Abstract: An independent wideband pilot channel transmitter is located in each cell of a frequency division multiple access communications system which is adjacent to a code division multiple access communications system. Operation of the independent wideband pilot channel transmitter is controlled by a mobile switching center of the code division multiple access communications system. Wideband pilot channel broadcasts from the independent wideband pilot channel transmitters are then monitored by dual mode mobile stations in accordance with mobile assisted handoff (MAHO) procedures for the purpose of identifying target cells in the frequency division multiple access communications system which are suitable for handoff.
Abstract: The present invention provides a decorative door chime particularly well suited to festive occasions. The chime's speaker element is suspended on one side of the door, and a door-knocker actuated trigger switch on the other side of the door, by a strap. The strap encloses the electrical connections between them, hiding and protecting them. A mounting clip is slidably attached to the strap for securing and positioning wreaths and other similar decorations. The sound generator plays songs, tone sequences, recorded voice messages etc. in response to actuation of the trigger switch.
Abstract: A support/sport sock for enhancing athletic performance. The sock includes a sock body of an elastomeric material which exhibits a pressure gradient against the calf of the leg which varies from a maximum proximate the foot portion of the sock to a minimum at the top end. The sock may include a padded heel portion and ball portion and an absorbent lining. A plurality of biomechanical support panels are incorporated into the sock body at locations thereon corresponding to the major muscle-tendon groups of the lower leg. These biomechanical supports serve to stabilize and support these muscle-tendon groups during athletic activity. The sock may be combined with an athletic shoe or other footwear.
Abstract: A substantially egg or tear drop shaped handle in which a segment, parallel to the major axis, has been cut away so as to provide a flat surface. Either end of the major axis of the substantially egg shaped handle or the non-rounded (i.e. pointed) end of the substantially tear shaped handle is adapted to receive, adapted to be received by, or integrally manufactured with, the item to be held by the handle. The flat surface is available as a thumb rest. Preferably the handle is of a size that when the thumb is against the flat side, the end of the major axis which is not attached to anything rests comfortably against a portion of the palm.
Abstract: The present invention time and frequency synchronizes a plurality of private radio base stations operating in the coverage area of a land mobile communications network. The mobile network's control channels are used to derive a reference signal. A mobile terminal uses the reference signal to become synchronized both in time and frequency with the mobile network. Any of the private radio base stations that is linked in a traffic connection with the mobile terminal is synchronized with the mobile terminal. Consequently, the private radio base stations are indirectly synchronized with each other and also with the mobile communications network.
Abstract: For threaded connections for oil and gas applications using tubular goods of composite materials, substantially greater make up torque can be applied, with significantly improved tensile and sealing properties, by incorporating stress-relieving conical gradient sections adjacent each end of the threaded section of the composite member. Joining each of two composite tubular members to a single double ended male member having complementary surfaces, circumferential distortion is not concentrated at the end regions of the threaded sections but is distributed, relieving stresses and allowing increased makeup torque to be applied, greatly expanding the useful parameters of fiber reinforced tubular products.
