Patent number: 5313466Abstract: A method for real time message transmission in a token ring network is provided. The method initializes each node in the network, including setting a maximum message transmission time H.sub.i for node i such that ##EQU1## where C.sub.i is the transmission time of a message in a message stream, P.sub.i is the period length of the message stream, and a is a non-negative constant between zero and one. The messages are then transmitted when a token arrives at a node for the duration of H.sub.i. Using this method with the timed token protocol, the synchronous messages are guaranteed to be transmitted before their deadlines if the utilization of synchronous messages is no more than ##EQU2## of available utilization.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 1992Date of Patent: May 17, 1994Assignee: The Texas A&M University SystemInventors: Wei Zhao, Biao Chen, Gopal Agrawal

Patent number: 5307749Abstract: A process for determining coordinate values of touchdown sites of a needle for forming sewing patterns with an electronically controlled sewing machine, which is equipped with a feed dog performing only relatively small amounts of displacement and with a needle pivotable in one direction of displacement of the feed dog. The coordinate values for a straight seam section, the consecutive touchdown points of the needle, are determined when the maximum amount of feed of the feed dog in the X coordinate direction and/or the sum of the maximum amount of the lateral movement of the needle which is possible at a given needle position and the maximum amount of feed of the feed dog in the Y coordinate direction is exceeded. The seam section is subdivided by equidistant intermediate touchdown sites, the distances between which in the direction of movement of the needle are composed of a constant percentage of the lateral movement of the needle and of a constant feed percentage of the feed dog.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 1992Date of Patent: May 3, 1994Assignee: G. Patent number: 5309363Abstract: A postage meter and system is provided for recharging the postage meter using a credit card number via communication over a modem with a manufacturer host. The postage meter has a nonvolatile register indicating an amount of postage resident in the postage meter. An account number register stores at least one credit card number which can be used for remote recharging of the postage meter. A constant nonvolatile register indicates a postage meter number permanently assigned to the postage meter. A modem in the postage meter transmits the credit card number and the postage meter number to the manufacturer host when requesting an increase in the amount of the postage resident in the postage meter. When the manufacturer host receives the request from the postage meter, the manufacturer host verifies that the postage meter number is among a list of valid postage meter numbers.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 1992Date of Patent: May 3, 1994Assignee: Frank M. Patent number: 5305689Abstract: The axes of a first press roll (1) and of a second press roll (3) lie in a press plane (E). Each of the press rolls has a respective journal (2, 4). The first press roll is supported in a first bearing bracket (5). The second press roll rests in a second bearing bracket (6) which is coupled, by means of flexurally soft tie-bar groups (7a, 7b . . . , 8a, 8b . . . ), to the first bearing bracket (5). In the unloaded condition of the roll press, the second bearing bracket (6) rests on the first bearing bracket (5). In the loaded condition, however, a clearance (p) is established between the bearing brackets (5, 6), which permits the bearing brackets (5, 6) to be displaceable relative to each other in the axial direction of the press rolls.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 1993Date of Patent: April 26, 1994Assignee: J. Patent number: 5307149Abstract: A method for part placement of a semiconductor chip for inspection where the semiconductor chip has a plurality of leads defining a seating plane and a body having a top. The method includes the steps of placing the body on a platform in an up position where the plurality of leads are suspended and probing the top of the body. Next measuring the position of the top of the body with reference to a predetermined coordinate system is done. Then the part is moved until the part is suspended on the plurality of leads on a reference plane. The top of the body is then probed for a second time, and the second position of the top of the body is measured with reference to the predetermined coordinate system. The thickness of the part is then determined as the distance between the top of the part and its seating plane.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 1992Date of Patent: April 26, 1994Assignees: Elwin M.
