  • Patent number: 5307416
Abstract: A circuit and method for improving the accuracy of an electrical signal communicated between electrical devices, particularly audio equipment, is disclosed herein. The apparatus includes a circuit that biases a cable to a biased voltage. A signal, analog or digital, is communicated through the biased cable. The present invention has applicability in any cable that is used to send electrical signals between electrical equipment, and particularly equipment for reproducing audio signals, such as high fidelity stereo equipment in order to more closely reproduce the musical qualities of the original recordings.

  • Patent number: 5307400
Abstract: A continuous and accurate location system for a mobile telephone subscriber which utilizes a temporary location indication as well as a registration location. If a visiting mobile subscriber sends a registration access, the visited system acknowledges the registration, records the mobile subscriber's presence and signals the mobile subscriber's home system of the mobile's presence. Receipt of the mobile's location from the visited system causes the mobile subscriber's home system to update its registration location data for that particular mobile. If a visiting mobile subscriber initiates a call access from within the visited system without registering within the visited system, the visited system allocates a record for the mobile indicating within the record that it has not received a registration from the mobile and transmits to the home system a temporary location signal.

  • Patent number: 5307235
Abstract: An ionizer device for gases or liquids includes a housing that is internally subdivided by an annular tubular partition into a central ionizer chamber and a surrounding overflow chamber. An electron source electrode is located with the ionizer chamber. An annular electron collector electrode is located within the overflow chamber in surrounding relation to the tubular partition. Fluid can be recirculated from the overflow chamber back to the fluid source through an opposite charged neutralizer electrode mechanism designed to replace electrons collected from the fluid by the collector electrode.

  • Patent number: 5303851
Abstract: A spray or dispensing bottle is preferably blow molded from plastic material which is squeezable, with a sufficient plastic memory to cause the plastic to return to its original shape after it is squeezed and relaxed. The bottle includes an integral tube which extends from the bottom of the bottle, upwardly to the top of the bottle. Along the route of this tube, an aneurism or bladder is formed to receive and hold fluid which is sucked up the tube when the bladder is squeezed. Check valves are provided for opening and closing the fluid path from the bottle to the bladder and out of a nozzle. Thus, the bladder may be repeatedly pressed to create a vacuum, causing it to fill, or if squeezed when full, to spray the fluid out of the bottle. In one embodiment, a lever arm is positioned over the bladder in order to increase the mechanical advantage and relieve the stress which results if fingers must be used to squeeze the bladder.

  • Patent number: 5305325
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for testing and supervising majority votes in a multiplane digital time selector with essentially identical equipment in each of at least three planes (A,B,C) working in parallel. An incoming data flow is distributed to the planes and is allowed to pass through the equipment in each of them and gives rise to outgoing data streams. These outgoing data streams are compared to each other and a majority voted outgoing data flow based upon the comparison is delivered from the unit. An error is periodically introduced in accordance with a predetermined pattern in the three planes and the data streams arriving at the majority vote and the majority voted data flow are compared. If an error is then found in any of the data streams an alarm is emitted.

  • Patent number: 5305239
Abstract: In the field of non-destructive evaluation of materials, conventional ultrasonic measurement techniques are limited to materials having a thickness which is relatively large compared to the wavelength of the ultrasonic signal used. The present technique enables the accurate ultrasonic non-destructive measurement of materials which are relatively small compared to the wavelength of the ultrasonic signal used. Ultrasonic signals received from a thin material are processed in the frequency-domain either directly or by use of a Fast Fourier Transform. Specifically, the frequency response of the ultrasonic transducers used in the measurement is removed from the frequency response of the signal received when measuring the material. This yields a frequency response which is indicative of the material alone. Then, the measured frequency response of the material is evaluated to determine unknown parameters of the material.

  • Patent number: 5303177
Abstract: A method and an arrangement for performing an approximate division of a constant number by a variable number in binary form. The variable number is presumed to consist of a character bit and a plurality of bits which state the absolute value of the number. The number is converted by first forming a digital word, by substituting with logic zeroes any logic ones that have a lower significance than the most significant logic one of the bits. There is then formed a new number in binary form, by reading the character bit of the variable number as a character bit and by reading the bits in the digital word in a reversed order. The arrangement may mainly comprise a single gate network.

  • Patent number: 5303315
Abstract: An X-cut or near Y-cut monocrystalline wafer of electro-optical material forms a substrate of a digital optical switch. Waveguides of LiNbO.sub.3 are diffused into the wafer to form ribbon waveguides such that light propagates in a direction near the Z axis of the wafer. These waveguides form a Y-shape, refractive indices of which are controlled by electrodes formed closely adjacent thereto.

  • Patent number: 5302251
Abstract: A press jacket is formed of an elastomeric jacket material having two layers of reinforcement threads, namely an inner layer and an outer layer, embedded in it. The inner layer is formed of longitudinal threads which upon operation of the press device extend parallel to the axis of rotation of the press jacket. The outer layer is formed by a fabric layer or by circumferential threads which are wound helically and which, upon operation of the press device, extend approximately in the direction of travel of the press jacket. The reinforcement threads are surrounded by the layer of elastomeric material, which is produced homogeneously. The inner surface of the press jacket has longitudinal grooves which extend parallel to the longitudinal threads and have a depth of 0.1 to 0.2 mm.

  • Patent number: 5299363
Abstract: A dry end of a paper making machine has a plurality of dryer groups each in turn comprised of a plurality of heatable dryer cylinders which alternate with reversal rolls. A respective support belt meanders past each dryer cylinder and the succeeding reversal roll in each dryer group. The web to be dried is supported on the side of each support belt to contact the heatable dryer cylinders. The reversal roll that precedes the first dryer cylinder in each succeeding group serves as a web removal roll which is wrapped by the second support belt of the succeeding dryer group. The first support belt of the preceding dryer group has the web on the side of the first belt which is toward the removal roll. The first support belt contacts the second support belt on the removal roll over a smaller part of the circumference of the removal roll than the second support belt. The removal roll transfers the web from the first support belt to the second support belt at the removal roll.
