  • Publication number: 20160061400
Abstract: This invention provides an optical system that collects 100% of the light emitted from the light source and effectively directs it into the desired beam pattern. This is achieved by a combination of different optical control methods including reflector and lens optics. The cost is controlled by a design that reduces the optical part count to 2 main components, which reduces manufacturing and assembling time and maintains proper alignment to the light source and system.

  • Publication number: 20160052204
Abstract: A method for forming butt joints between thermoplastic members by resistive implant welding. A tongue is formed on one member to be joined and a complementary groove is formed in the other member. A resistive implant is placed between the tongue and the groove which are then pressed together by an applied pressure. An electric current is run through the resistive implant to melt a portion of the thermoplastic material of both the tongue and groove, and the melted plastic intermingles through the implant. When the electric current is removed, the plastic cools, forming a weld.

  • Patent number: 9216767
Abstract: A subframe (1) designed as a cross member for a vehicle includes two side members (2) and a stiffening structure (3) between the two side members (2), wherein the side members (2) are designed substantially as hollow profile pieces and have at least one predetermined buckling point (18, 19) in the form of a curvature in the longitudinal extension direction of the side members (2). In order to improve this subframe (1) so that it ensures good mechanical properties such as strength, rigidity, acoustics and reinforcement of the body while driving, and absorbs sufficient deformation energy in the event of a crash, and nevertheless can be produced easily and cost-effectively with a low component weight, the side members (2) have at least one bead (16, 17) extending in the longitudinal direction of the side members (2) in the area of the designed buckling point (18, 19).

  • Publication number: 20150358727
Abstract: An active buffeting noise control arrangement for a vehicle having one or more window panels of a vehicle cabin. One or more actuators are positioned at or near the one or more window panels and are operable to selectively vibrate the one or more windows in order to generate sound waves that will counteract a low frequency throb or buffeting event. The arrangement further includes one or more sensors in a vehicle cabin for detecting the buffeting event in transmitting sensor data to a control module. The control module is connected to the one or more sensors as well as the one or more actuators where the control module receives the sensory data, determines if a buffeting event is occurring and commands the one or more actuator assemblies to vibrate the window and generate sound waves that are operable to counteract the buffeting event.

  • Patent number: 9205512
Abstract: A process is provided for laser beam welding of surface treated steel components. Two steel components, at least one of which is a surface treated steel component, are relatively arranged to form a joint that is to be welded. Using a laser beam, the two steel components are irradiated along the joint so as to heat materials within each of the two steel components to a welding temperature, and thereby form a weld pool. During welding a metallic constituent is introduced into a leading edge of the weld pool, in front of the laser beam along a welding direction. The introduced metallic constituent combines with a species, which is released into the weld pool from the surface treated steel component, to form a compound that is stable within the weld pool at the welding temperature.

  • Patent number: 9180555
Abstract: A system for forming different types of clamshell components including a moveable base, a stationary base, and a squeezer assembly capable of accommodating different types of clamshell components having different lengths, shapes, locations of piercings. The squeezer assembly includes interchangeable squeezer elements. To switch between forming a first type of clamshell component and a second type of clamshell component, one of the two bases is moved relative to the other of the two bases and/or squeezer units for forming the first type of clamshell component are replaced with squeezer units for forming the second type of clamshell component. Reconfiguring the bases and interchanging the squeezers of a clamshell tool, instead of replacing an entire clamshell tool with a different clamshell tool, minimizes lost productivity time, reduces capital costs, and eliminates the problem of storing several different clamshell assembly tools.
