  • Patent number: 7769427
Abstract: A system whereby a magnetic tip attached to a surgical tool is detected, displayed and positioned. A Virtual Tip serves as an operator control. Movement of the operator control produces corresponding movement of the magnetic tip inside the patient's body. Additionally, the control provides tactile feedback to the operator's hand in the appropriate axis or axes if the magnetic tip encounters an obstacle. The output of the control combined with the magnetic tip position and orientation feedback allows a servo system to control the external magnetic field by pulse width modulating the positioning electromagnet. Data concerning the dynamic position of a moving body part such as a beating heart offsets the servo systems response in such a way that the magnetic tip, and hence the secondary tool is caused to move in unison with the moving body part.

  • Patent number: 7646132
Abstract: An axial gap EDM deploys as a stator coils a series of two parallel serpentine windings that each circumscribe an arc segment of a circle. Each arc segment that forms the stator winding assembly is powered as a separate phase. The two winding are readily formed by shaping one or more wire segment. Preferably the parallel winding are arranged to overlap with a half period rotational offset such that the radial directed serpentine segments of that are disposed above and below the stator disk are interlaced when viewed in projection through the disk. In one embodiment, each series of serpentine winding are separated by a gap so that they can be inserted on the stator disk from the edge. A separate rotor disk is adjacent each side of this stator disk. In another embodiment, each series of serpentine winding are separated by a gap, so they can be inserted to surround a single rotor disk which has two series of magnets disposed on opposite sides.

  • Patent number: 7633518
Abstract: An object detection portal wherein a video image is obtained of a volume or area being scanned, and location of a threat object is determined and displayed in real time as an indicator overlay on the video image. An individual subject being scanned may be continuously monitored by an operator during an object divesting process, and an operator may view the threat object moving from or remaining with the subject. Object location information is supplied to a video driver to superimpose the overlay on a real time image of a subject. The scanning portal may interact with an exit barrier. The exit barrier may be activated automatically in response to sensing of a threat.

  • Publication number: 20090200883
Abstract: An axial gap electric dynamo machine has a horizontally disposed rotor disk that is stabilized at its periphery by a plurality of permanent magnets connected to a ferromagnetic bearing plate that provides an opposing or repulsive force against the rotor magnets. In some preferred embodiments, the bearing plate magnets are configured in a dual band to further enhance the magnetic field that supports the periphery of the spinning rotor.

  • Publication number: 20090200889
Abstract: The stator of an axial gap dynamoelectric machine comprises two or more serpentine coil arrays that are formed form a continuous loop of insulated wire. The serpentine coils are deflected in at least some of the tangential components so the place radial segments disposed to generate a Lorenz force with respect to the rotor magnets in a common plane, reducing the gap there between.

  • Publication number: 20090200890
Abstract: The stator of an axial gap dynamoelectric machine has at least one substantially planar coil arrays formed by joining two or more sub-coils. Each sub-coil has a serpentine path about the stator perimeter that includes radial segments disposed to generate a Lorenz force with respect to the rotor magnets. The radial segments of the serpentine path joined by alternating inner and outer tangential segments. Each sub-coil starts with a proximal end at an outer tangential segments and a distal end about or within an inner perimeter of the inner tangential segments. Each sub-coil is joined at the distal end with another sub-coil to form the winding coil such that the proximal ends of the sub-coils constitute the two terminals of the planar coil array. This arrangement conveniently places both terminals of the planar coil array at the outer perimeter of the stator while also raising the winding inductance to a level more compatible with conventional motor power supplies.
