Abstract: The rubber-blanket plate comprising a carrier plate (2) on which functional layers (3) are arranged. The functional layers (3) include a covering layer (4), a woven-fabric layer (5) and a compressible layer (6). At the two ends of the rubber-blanket plate (FIG. 4a), only the ends of the covering layer (13) extend to the carrier plate (2), whereas the functional layers end before that. As a result, effective protection of the functional layers (3) is attained, and it is possible to use a relatively narrow channel (FIG. 4a) in the printing press cylinder upon which the rubber-blanket plate is mounted. Alternatively, all of the functional layers can extend to the end of the carrier plate.
Abstract: A plate cylinder of a printing press, with a tensioning channel which extends in the axial direction, in which means for fixing the plate ends of at least one printing plate which can be positioned on the plate cylinder are arranged. The leading plate end can be fixed by a holding element against a contact surface by means of a tensioning rail which can be moved in the tensioning channel. After that, and after the plate cylinder has been rotated, it is then possible to hook the trailing plate end on the extended tensioning rail. After that, it is possible to draw the tensioning rail back in again to tension the trailing plate end.

Abstract: In order to simplify the sequence of creating a mask, in particular for producing a printing plate, and at the same time to improve the quality of the printing plate produced by means of a mask, the use of laser-induced thermal transfer is provided. The structure information is applied directly to the surface of a printing plate carrier during the creation of a mask, by means of a thermal transfer film and a laser image-setting unit, so that by means of the structure information applied, differentiation with regard to image points and non-image points can be carried out directly in order to produce a printing plate.

Abstract: In a web-fed rotary printing machine having a plurality of cylinders rolling on one another, each cylinder is driven by a respective drive motor, and a control device synchronizes the motors to run at the same speed. The control device has stored therein a control program which can be activated in the event of a web break. The control program has an emergency stop ramp which brakes the motors to a standstill by jerked stop, preferably within five revolutions, the program driving the motors along the stop ramp in the event of a web break.
Abstract: A positioning device for functional devices of printing presses, having at least one guide unit and one drive for moving and positioning the functional device for throwing-on/throwing-off movements with regard to impression cylinders. Weight compensation means are provided for the vertical displacement, so that the drive can be at least partially relieved of the weight of the functional device.
Abstract: In order to process inexpensive printing materials in connection with the processing of an extremely wide range of coating media, such as solvent-containing printing inks, and, moreover, in connection with variable format configuration and extremely flexible processing processes, provision is made to couple a web-fed rotary press and a sheet-fed rotary press to each other. For this purpose, a transfer assembly 7 in the form of a roll-sheet feeder is arranged between the presses.
Abstract: A method of cross-cutting a moving web uses a cutting knife operably mounted on a knife cylinder having a circumferential distance LZ where LZ is smaller than a cut length, LA. The knife cylinder for revolving in a first and a second opposite direction is powered by a drive motor in either direction. The method includes revolving the knife cylinder in a first direction, cutting the web with the cutting knife, and completing a first cut. The knife cylinder is then reversed to retard progress in the first direction and then accelerated to the speed of the moving web until starting the second cut.
Abstract: A drying apparatus for a sheet-fed offset printing machine which dries sheets as they pass along a sheet path with forcefully directed air and/or heat. The drying apparatus of the present invention is adapted for more effective sheet drying by means of an electrode and a corresponding counter electrode, wherein the electrode is connected to a high-voltage source and a high voltage is applied to the electrode by the high-voltage source in dependence on the operation of the sheet-fed printing machine and/or the length of the sheets.
Abstract: An inking system for a printing machine which has a relatively simple design and which is adapted for more stable ink transfer to a plate cylinder. The inking system includes an ink supply roller (15), one or more drivable inking unit rollers (14, 19), an adjustment system for establishing a predetermined nip (19) between the ink supply roller and one of the drivable unit inking rollers (14, 19), and at least one movable calender roller (10) in constant contact with one of the drivable inking unit rollers operable for selectively interrupting the ink transfer.

Abstract: An apparatus for setting the lateral register of a printing unit of a rotary press that prints on a paper web includes a first bearing block configured as a locating bearing arranged on the drive side of a forme cylinder; and a second bearing block configured as a floating bearing on the operating side of the forme cylinder. A pressure medium operated operating cylinder displaces the first bearing block axially and presses it against an adjustable stop without play for the purpose of setting the lateral register. A controller controls the axial location of the adjustable stop in at least one of a closed-loop fashion and an open-loop fashion based on register deviations determined by a scanning optics unit.
Abstract: An inking unit for a rotary printing machine includes an ink fountain, a pivotable ink fountain holder in which the ink fountain is mounted, an ink ductor, and a pivotable ink ductor holder in which the ink ductor is mounted. The ink ductor holder and the ink fountain holder are connected by an operating cylinder so that ductor and the ink fountain can be pivoted jointly to a first position in which ink flows out of the ductor without flowing out of the fountain, and so that the ductor can be pivoted away from the first position to a second position while the ink fountain remains in the first position, thereby creating a gap between the ductor and the ink fountain.
Abstract: A form cylinder is provided with a circumferential surface which is convexly curved in the axial direction, such that the convex profile, determined by calculation, of the circumferential surface varies in such a way that the diameter of the form cylinder is largest in the axial center and smallest at the lateral edges.
