  • Patent number: 6450242
Abstract: A method and a belt casting device for producing thin billets, in particular composed of steel, has an endless belt to which liquid metal is supplied via a feed device which has a casting channel and is connected to a metallurgical vessel. In this case, the feed device is in the form of a casting channel which has a first casting channel part in the form of a restriction channel part, and which has a second casting channel part whose opening faces the endless belt and whose size corresponds to the cross-sectional area of the finished product. The feed device is connected to a container to which liquid melt can be fed from a metallurgical vessel. Measurement elements are provided, which can be used to detect the level of the liquid melt in the container and/or the thickness of the billet located on the endless belt. Furthermore, the measured values are connected via a measurement and control element to an actuator which is connected to an element for adjusting the outlet rate from the metallurgical vessel.

  • Patent number: 6438127
Abstract: Economical and dependable networking of spatially separated branches of an organization is made possible for a plurality of individual subscribers with spatially separated branches by means of an arrangement and process for the operation of layer-3 virtual private networks (VPN A, VPN B) on a common data packet.communication network (e.g. OSI L3 data packet communication network 1). A logical separation of the layer-3 VPNs (VPNA, VPNB) is accomplished by allocating disjoint partial address spaces of a given homogeneous total address space to these L3 VPNs. A virtual private network identification number VPN ID is assigned to each L3 VPN and used to identify the disjoint partial address space by forming a part of the address. The VPN ID characterizing the L3 VPN starts at a fixed bit position in the individual subscriber address of each individual subscriber of the L3 VPN and may have a variable or a fixed length.

  • Patent number: 6432343
Abstract: In a process of making a rotationally symmetrical article, such as rope pulleys, running wheels or the like, from plastic material such as cast polyamides, raw material melts of plastic material and predetermined amounts of catalysts, activators and stabilizers are prepared at different formulation and composition to impart the melts with different mechanical strengths after polymerization. The raw material melts are poured into a heated, rotating mold in succession in dependence on a polymerization pattern of the raw material melts. After complete polymerization of the melts, the mold is opened, and the finished article can be removed from the mold for optional refinishing procedure.

  • Patent number: 6434505
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for determining the winding temperature (TW) of the stator winding of a three-phase AC motor, in particular a pole-changeable asynchronous motor. For determining the winding temperature (TW) of the stator winding of three-phase AC motors that have an unfavorable ratio of the active power to the dissipation power and react sensitively to temperature changes and changes in a main voltage, and for readily determining the heat dissipation power (PV) from the winding temperature (TW) of the stator winding, it is proposed to determine the reference temperature (TG) and the motor current (IM) simultaneously at consecutive points in time, and to determine the winding temperature (TW) by calculating step-by-step sequentially the change in the winding temperature (TW) at a point in time (tn) and adding this change to the winding temperature (TW) of the immediately preceding point in time (tn−1).

  • Patent number: 6427513
Abstract: The invention related to a process for producing pipes, especially large pipes, as per the UOE process, wherein the pipes, after internal and external seam welding, are incrementally calibrated by cold expansion up to half the pipe length. The cold expansion is also used for straightening. For this purpose, the pipe is clamped at the shortest possible distance in front of the expander head, the free pipe end is flexibley deformed, and the pipe is then cold expanded in a known manner. The prestress force thereby decreases and then, after the release of the clamping and the remaining prestress, the pipe moves incrementally by the amount of the expander step width, up to half the pipe length. The process is then repeated for the second pipe half.

  • Patent number: 6430555
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for data exchange via a communications channel between a central unit, which processes, stores and provides data, and a data terminal device. Initially, a permanently unchanged application-independent query structure (general query structure) is stored both in the central unit and in the data terminal device, as are a small number of permanently unchanged application-independent response formats. For each application, the specific query structure is defined on the basis of the general query structure and is stored in the central unit in the form of a parameter set. As needed, the data terminal device requests from the center unit, via the communications channel, a specific query structure not yet stored in the data terminal device and receives and stores the applicable parameter set.
