Abstract: In the present invention, when a procedure signal specified in a predetermined Recommendation is received from an answering side, a variable signal detection section detects signal components each at one of a plurality of frequencies from the procedure signal. Based on the detected result in the variable signal detection section, a comparison section outputs an identification signal indicative of a type of Recommendation. Based on the identification signal, a control section of a host controls the switching of operation modes of a modem.

Abstract: A home gateway apparatus receives a request for desired contents from a program selection terminal storing a program guide at a home. When an IP packet addressed to a home network from the Internet is retrieved, it is checked whether the retrieved IP packet includes the desired contents, a reception of which is being requested. When the IP packet includes the desired contents, such contents are delivered to a TV apparatus via IEEE1394 network. When the IP packet does not include such contents, the IP packet is forwarded to other destination terminals in the home network.

Abstract: A communication apparatus that is selectively connectable to a communication device. A communicator executes a first communication mode to transmit a first predetermined signal to a communication device that designates a specific mode, and the communication device responds by issuing a second predetermined signal. The communicator executes a second communication mode to transmit a third predetermined signal to the communication device that requests a transmission of the first predetermined signal from the communication device, and upon receipt of the first predetermined signal from the communication device, transmits the second predetermined signal to the communication device. A controller controls the execution of either the first communication mode or the second communication mode upon initializing a communication with the communication device.

Abstract: An information distribution system is provided where broadcasting contents are distributed to an IP network using a multicast address for each set of contents, and a home gateway at home connected to the IP network receives desired contents. A program guide server that retains multicast addresses used for each content distribution is also provided in the system, so that a multicast address of a desired contents can be obtained by accessing the program guide server from a program selection terminal via the IP network, and the home gateway can receive the desired contents based on the multicast address.

Abstract: A network communication control apparatus that converts data from a facsimile apparatus into e-mail to transmit to another communication apparatus, and converts e-mail from another communication apparatus into facsimile data to transmit to the facsimile apparatus, the network communication control apparatus further stores managing data that includes whether transmission to/from facsimile apparatus from/to another communication terminal is complete, determines whether the un-transmitted managing data is stored at a predetermined timing, and notifies the sender regarding the un-transmitted data, when the un-transmitted managing data is stored, according to the content of data. This is to allow the sender to be easily and automatically notified when the data transmission is incomplete, and to improve the reliability of the network communication control apparatus.

Abstract: An e-mail apparatus comprises a memory to which a character string showing a domain name is stored; a display for dividing an e-mail address into a plurality of segments including a segment of the domain name so as to be displayed and for displaying the character string of the domain name stored in the memory at the segment of the domain name; a button for changing the domain name displayed on the display to other domain name stored in the memory; a dividing section, which configures to divide the character string of the e-mail as a sender included in the received e-mail into a plurality of segments; and a storing section, which configures to store the character string, corresponding to the segment of at least the domain name in the divided character, to the memory.

Abstract: Transmission data is generated through a conversion process in which character string data attached to e-mail is matched with a character set type that can be processed by a destination terminal apparatus. In addition, character string data of set phrases that are generated by using character sets that are standard in each plurality of language types is stored in a language-based set phrase memory. By selecting a set phrase registered in the language-based set phrase memory, based on a language type that is set by the destination terminal apparatus, transmission data is generated in accordance with the character string data. Capability information in relation to a character set type and language type is either obtained from MDN data within a response mail to be stored in an address-based terminal capability memory, or obtained via a communication process in accordance with an ESMTP step.

Abstract: The facsimile apparatus according to the present invention comprises a decision section for checking whether or not the document edit flag is ON when the document sensor detects a document. When the document edit flag is ON, this decision section decides that edited image data are stored in edited document storage area 14A. Then, this decision section checks whether or not to send both the edited image data and paper document. When it decides that both should be sent, this decision section checks whether or not the paper document should be sent first. If the paper document is sent first, this decision section checks whether or not the edited image data should be inserted into the paper document. If the operator selects “Yes”, this decision section decides that the paper document should be scanned by the scanner, sent one page at a time, and when the specified page appears the scanned image data should be sent followed by the rest of the paper document.

Abstract: A center and remote sides are connected via a line and perform an initialization sequence to set a transmission speed and to detect gain characteristics of a signal received during the initialization sequence at both sides. Both center and remote sides then inform each other of the detected gain characteristics and correct gain characteristics of future transmission signals based on the informed gain characteristics. Therefore, it is possible for a sender side to perform a gain correction that raises gain amounts of transmission signals according to a decay rate, and for a receiver side to maintain the reception level, which is more than a predetermined value, thereby providing a high-speed data rate.

If the re-initialization is necessary, a pre-selected sub-carrier topology is inverted to request the re-initialization to an ADSL modem apparatus, which is installed by a central system. Upon receiving a reply to the re-initialization request from the ADSL modem apparatus, the re-initialization is performed after an expiration of a predetermined time period.
