Abstract: A monitoring apparatus and monitoring/notifying method for receiver and sender terminals of an e-mail transmission system having a receiver terminal can confirm a status of a receiver terminal, prior to a transmission. A monitoring server monitors status of receiver terminals, such as IFAX and PC units, which are connected to the same LAN. The IFAX and PC units notify the monitoring server of the current status information according to requests made by the monitoring server. The monitoring server notifies IFAX units of the sending side, if an abnormal condition of the IFAX of the receiving side is detected. Upon receiving the notification from the monitoring server via the internet, the IFAX units of the sending side inform senders of the abnormal condition, by illuminating an LED.

  • Publication number: 20020107937
Abstract: PC broadcasts a search packet on a network (ST505), and waits for the response (ST506). A network scanner receives the search packet and determines whether or not the received search packet is a group name to be responded (ST507). When determining it as the group name to be responded, the network scanner sends back a search response packet to PC (ST509). When receiving the search response packet, PC transmits a registration packet to the network scanner. When receiving the registration packet, the network scanner extracts user terminal information from the registration packet (ST511) and registers it to address notebook data (ST512). After that, the network scanner transmits a registration response packet to PC (ST513).

  • Publication number: 20020107983
Abstract: A user information registration program 68 of PC3 obtains current time from a built-in timer. Sequentially, the user information registration program 68 extracts one registration destination information from a registration destination table. The user information registration program 68 calculates lease end time from the sum of lease period and registration response reception time in extracted registration destination information and compares the calculation result with current time. If current time exceeds lease end time, the user information registration program 68 adds the IP address of network scanner 2 relating to the current registration destination to a response table 120. Sequentially, user information of PC3 is registered to the network scanner 2 (registration destination). The user information registration program 68 registers new user information to all registration destinations (network scanners 2) registered in the registration destination table.

  • Publication number: 20020091781
Abstract: Upon occurrence of memory overflow, a POP3 protocol process section interrupts email reception by POP3 and stores a page count number at the interruption in the data memory area as the interrupted page number. After that, POP3 protocol process section starts reception of the remainder of the interrupted email data connecting to POP3 server. Comparing the receiving page number and the interrupted page number, the POP3 protocol section identifies the data as the data corresponding to the pages received if the former number is smaller than the latter number. If the data corresponds to the pages received, the data is deleted from the reception buffer without any processing. On the other hand, if the data corresponds to non-received pages, then the data is received and printed out after decoding.
