  • Publication number: 20120142114
Abstract: The present invention provides apparatus and methods for performing assays for determining the time required for a sample of blood to coagulate. The apparatus comprises reaction chambers coated with one or more clotting agent. A drop of blood or equivalent is placed at the sample application port, diluted, and contacted with the clotting agents in the reaction chambers. The diluted blood sample can be moved back and forth through the reaction chambers until blood clots. The blood clotting process forms fibrin stands that prevent the flow of the blood sample in the reaction chambers. The clotting time is the total time from the sample entering the reaction chambers to the time at which the waveform in the reaction chambers change, or the motion or flow of the sample ceases, and can be measured by turbidity.

  • Publication number: 20120107209
Abstract: This invention relates to processes for selective removal of contaminants from effluent gases. A sulfur dioxide absorption/desorption process for selective removal and recovery of sulfur dioxide from effluent gases utilizes a buffered aqueous absorption solution comprising weak inorganic or organic acids or salts thereof, to selectively absorb sulfur dioxide from the effluent gas. Absorbed sulfur dioxide is subsequently stripped to regenerate the absorption solution and produce a sulfur dioxide-enriched gas. A process for simultaneous removal of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides (NOx) from effluent gases and recovery of sulfur dioxide utilizes a buffered aqueous absorption solution including a metal chelate to absorb sulfur dioxide and NOx from the gas and subsequently reducing absorbed NOx to form nitrogen. A process to control sulfate salt contaminant concentration in the absorption solution involves partial crystallization and removal of sulfate salt crystals.

  • Publication number: 20120057994
Abstract: A cellular wheel made of metal comprises an outer sleeve located symmetrically to a rotational axis and an inner sleeve. The annular space between the outer sleeve and inner sleeve is divided by cell wall parts, which are oriented in parallel to the rotational axis and delimited by cell edges, into a plurality of rotation-symmetrically arranged cells, wherein the cell edges are located on intersecting lines of cylinder lateral surfaces with rotation-symmetrically arranged axial planes, said surfaces being arranged concentrically to the rotational axis. The outer sleeve and inner sleeve delimit a cell structure, in which cell edges, which delimit a cell wall part in each case, are concurrently located in pairs on adjoining cylinder lateral surfaces and on adjoining axial planes. With each cell edge located on two adjoining axial planes of adjoining cylinder lateral surfaces, each cell edge on a cylinder lateral surface delimits two cell walls.
