The bioremodelable pouch structure is configured and sized to receive, encase and retain an electrical medical device therein and to allow such device to be inserted into the internal region or cavity of the pouch structure; with the pouch structure formed from either: (a) first and second sheets, or (b) a single sheet having first and second sheet portions. After receiving the electrical device, the edges around the opening are closed by suturing or stapling. The medical device encased by the bioremodelable pouch structure effectively improves biological functions by promoting tissue regeneration, modulated healing of adjacent tissue or growth of new tissue when implanted in the body of the mammal.

A key feature of this invention is that the activity level of the Collagenase used was substantially preserved.

    Abstract: The invention relates to the compound urolithin A and its compositions for topical use in inflammatory skin conditions of various etiologies. Anti-inflammatory activity has been demonstrated in vivo in a model of inflammation of the ear caused by infiltration with dinitrochlorobenzene in rats. Topical application of an ointment containing 0.2 and 1.0% urolithin A resulted in a decrease in ear edema and scratching frequency, which was associated with a decrease in the number of immune cells responsible for the progression of inflammation. The results obtained indicate the possibility of using a composition containing urolithin A in local therapy of skin inflammations, in treatment of which hydrocortisone or other steroids are currently used.

    Abstract: A lead assembly for insertion into a body passage such as the lumen of a vein is particularly applicable for assembly of a cardiac pacemaker. In one version the lead has a distal end with an end portion of a flexible sheath attached with the sheath initially extending outwardly from the distal end and subsequently folded in an annular U-fold over the lead to provide a sheath along the length. By applying tensile force to the proximal end of the lead, the annular fold causes the material of the sheath to peel away from any surrounding scar tissue as the lead is pulled out towards the proximal end and provides for easy nondestructive extraction of the lead. In another version, a single layer flexible sheath is attached at the distal end of a lead, and, upon application of a tensile force to the stretchable sheath, the lead can be extracted.

    Abstract: A system and method for sealing openings in a body of a patient made by a medical procedure or non-medical event. The opening may be formed in soft tissue, internal organs, or hard tissue. A coaxial needle is inserted into a patient and a coagulating agent is inserted into the patient via the coaxial needle. The coagulating agent is discharged adjacent to the opening and the coaxial needle is inserted to a surgical depth. Following the procedure, the coaxial needle is retracted to a plug discharging depth. A bioabsorbable plug in at least a partially dehydrated state is then discharged from the coaxial needle and the coaxial needle is removed. The plug resides at least partially within the opening in the organ or tissue created by the coaxial needle. The combination of the coagulating agent and the expandable plug seals the opening created by the coaxial needle.
