  • Patent number: 11129984
Abstract: In electrically stimulating neural tissue it is important to prevent over stimulation and unbalanced stimulation, which would cause damage to the neural tissue, the electrode, or both. It is critical that neural tissue is not subjected to any direct current or alternating current above a safe threshold. Further, it is important to identify defective electrodes, as continued use may result in neural damage and further electrode damage. The present invention presents system and stimulator control mechanisms to prevent damage to neural tissue.

  • Patent number: 11090033
Abstract: A bi-directional depth stop for use with biopsy instrument including a body and a pair of blades. The body defines a channel sized to receive a cannula associated with the biopsy instrument. The channel includes a first pair of opposing concave surfaces and a second pair of opposing concave surfaces. The first pair and second pair of opposing concave surfaces together form a superimposed bi-oval-shaped cross-section. Each blade of the pair of blades projects inwardly into a concave surface of the first pair of opposing concave surfaces such the pair of blades are disposed on an opposing side of the body. In some instances, the concave surfaces may be beneficial to provide rotation of the dept stop in two directions rather than a single direction.

  • Patent number: 11077233
Abstract: Processing an evacuated blood sample collection tube or other vessel by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition to apply a tie coating or layer (289), a barrier coating or layer (288), and optionally one or more additional coatings or layers. The tie coating or layer of SiOxCy is applied under partial vacuum and, while maintaining the partial vacuum unbroken in the lumen, the barrier coating or layer is applied. Then optionally, while maintaining the partial vacuum unbroken in the lumen, a pH protective coating or layer of SiOxCy can be applied. As a result of this processing, a coated vessel is produced having a lower gas permeation rate constant into the lumen than a corresponding vessel made by the same process except breaking the partial vacuum in the lumen between applying the tie coating or layer and applying the barrier coating or layer. Retention features are also described for keeping the vessels stoppered during exposure to reduced ambient pressure.

  • Patent number: 11039876
Abstract: An instrument includes a body having an interior conduit. A shaft extends distally out of the body and is movable between a retracted position and an extended position. A locking mechanism that selectively secures the shaft in the retracted and extended positions includes grooves in the body and a locking nut having pins that travel through the grooves to move the locking nut between a locked position and an unlocked position. The locking mechanism also includes compression flanges that flex towards and apply pressure/friction to the shaft when the locking nut is in the locked position and release/reduce the pressure/friction from the shaft when the locking nut is in the unlocked position. The compression flanges restrict the movement of the shaft when the compression flanges are flexed towards, and apply pressure to the shaft.

  • Patent number: 11019991
Abstract: The invention is a method of automatically adjusting a visual prosthesis electrode array to the neural characteristics of an individual patient. By recording electrically evoked responses to a predetermined input stimulus, one can alter that input stimulus to the needs of an individual patient. A minimum input stimulus is applied to a patient, followed by recording an electrically evoked response to the input stimulus. By gradually increasing stimulus levels, one can determine the minimum input that creates a neural response, thereby identifying the threshold stimulation level. One can further determine a maximum level by increasing stimulus until a predetermined maximum neural response is obtained.
